[WIP] First attempt to make a tileset - MicKo - 04-16-2009

Yep, except the one surrounding the house.

Double-posting! Need your opinion on this little tree I'm starting. I still have a lot of work to do on the upper-side, but I'm satisfied with the trunk.

Here ya go!

Again, I'm not a pro at this stuff, but over all, it looks good. I remember trying to make a tree and at least I can say yours looks like a tree. :D I really don't see anything wrong with it so far. Umm.. maybe put some leaves or something? It's not necessary as I can already tell it's a tree. Depending on what it's for maybe make it greener.

Yay! Update!

Tried to do some grass and an autotile.

Loving the autotiles, they work so well together. To have a more natural feeling, though I think it should be a little more rounded. But the tiles themselves look nice. Oh and the tree came out pretty good too. You should have variations of it, like maybe one with apples or something growing on it. I don't know why but it just reminds me of a tree that should have some sort of a fruit on it. :D

Hey, that's not a bad idea... I note that and will try to put some fruits in it, thanks for the tip. :D

Uuuu-p-p-p-pDATE!

The tileset looks great so far.

My only problem with it is the character you threw onto the map. It pointed out that most characters are more detailed than the tileset you are making. With the way everything is shaded, it is more cartoon/anime style than standard RPG. So, either some fitting characters are needed or the tiles need a bit more detail to them. Adding more shading layers and smoothing them would add in the detail needed to bring it up to the level of the standard RM(V)XP game.

Whether you use a shader or just dither it is up to you, but the extra detail will add a whole new dimension onto your tiles and let them fit the characters better, in my opinion.

I totally agree and I'm planning to add some details to the tileset. I don't want to have to much details, so that I can stay in the cartoon style, but, as you said, I have to add some.

I think I won't change the tree anymore, or just some shadows that seem weird, but I still have a lot to do on shrubs and the house. I also have to add flowers & co.

Thanks for your critics!
