RPG Maker 2009?

http://cherrytree.at/cms/lang/en/projects/ultimate/

What do you think of it, looks interesting... if only I found it in my stubborn 2k3 days. I use XP now so I probably wouldn't use it. But if anyone is interested you can dl it. :)

Features:
  • Interface modification: new, compact toolbar, seperated (”floating”) map tree and chip selector, project’s name in title bar
  • User-defined interface modification or localization through INI files (UIMod). This replaces the old way, where you had to use Resource Hacker.
  • Support for multiple instances (up to 100) without conflicts
  • Opening project by entering the path
  • Replacement of fonts (this way eliminating the bug where RM2k3 would display a yen sign instead of a backslash)
  • “User tools” menu where you can put tools you want to call quickly
  • Support for resources in subfolders
  • File info for resources (image size, title/copyright information for MIDIs and MP3s, …)
  • “Undo” button for many event commands
  • New charset animation type “No steps when moving”
  • New hotkeys, F11 can now be used in every window to open the music selector, F9 also works in the database
  • Event command highlighting
  • Size of event listboxes can be increased
  • “Secret”, password-protected events
  • Support for lower layer tiles in upper layer (with one important restriction, read ultimate.txt for details)
  • Go to a map by entering its ID or a part of its name
  • Support for comments up to 128 lines
  • No size check at importing images
  • Support for 125 (5×25) sprites instead of 25 (5×5) in one animation file
  • Useful tips and tricks

RE: RPG Maker 2009?

Hrm... It looks like they took RPGMaker 2003 and reverse engineered it (and obviously made a few improvements). That would make it about as legal as RPG Advocate's translation of RPGMaker 2003.

Which sucks, since RPG Advocate's translation "wasn't" legal.

I hope I'm wrong about it though, because it looks like they did a better job on all interface aspects.

EDIT: Um, ti requires RPGMaker 2003. So unless you actually buy a fully legal version from Japan, you're outta luck.

RE: RPG Maker 2009?

Lol yeah... Sorry guys, I knew about this about 6 months ago, Cherry made it. He makes lots of patches for 2003. It's illegal, but on the other hand, it's no longer possible to purchase the original software. You might as well just get it illegally because you won't find it otherwise.

P.S. I love RM2k3

RE: RPG Maker 2009?

My program isn't illegal, as far as I can tell.
It doesn't contain RM2k or RM2k3, it uses the existing RM2k(3) from your harddisk.
Also, it doesn't modify it, it hooks some functions in memory instead.

RE: RPG Maker 2009?

The problem is that RPGMaker 2003 that you require is not legally available outside of Japan, so your system needs the use of an illegal software package. The translations, such as the English version provided by RPG Advocate, are illegal and were forcibly pulled by Enterbrain. That is the main crux of the whole thing.

RE: RPG Maker 2009?

Oh, yes, that's true. However, as far as I know, there ARE ways to obtain RM2k(3) legally. I know it at least for RM2k Value!, and I have heard you can get RM2k3 too. I don't exactly know how, however.

RE: RPG Maker 2009?

I know from another person where RPGMaker 2003 was able to be purchased, but the company no longer exists. Amazon JP (Japan) does sell it, but not outside of Japan. And Degica, the current online sales representatives for Enterbrain state that they have no current plans to sell either RPGMaker 2000 or 2003.

I already tried... just a month ago. RM2K was popular as hell.

RE: RPG Maker 2009?

Yes my point exactly, RM2k(3) is some lovely software that surpasses XP in many ways (though XP has a lot of lovely stuff two, they're equal imo) but for us to use it we have to break the law, but since the company isn't trying to make the software available for us then personally I don't have an issue using it, at least for non commercial projects.

RE: RPG Maker 2009?

Enterbian should just pull the stick outa their ass.
If I buy an old Walkman from a flee market sony cant tell you thats illigal.

if you dont sell something no more, and you notice its still popular, you sell it or suck it up cause the pirates are right in this case.

We obviously want this just give it to us. ;/
