 What's up, RMers?
They messed with Odin's prize steed, Sleipnir?

THEY CUT OFF FOUR OF HIS EIGHT LEGS? OH, THE HUMANITY!

Ahh Final Fantasy XII... The lore with the many different strains of each monster type was so interesting. Definitely underrated in that department.  Happy

So as I kept getting scam calls today (About 7) I started getting interestingly stupid ideas for some reason. Ideas that I wrote in my Ideas.txt file for Destiny of End, which for some reason I never seem to look back at unless I forgot something major. And so after writing the new stupid ideas into the txt file, I decided to write some notes to any future readers. It sounds silly, but I wrote some guidelines on what will never be included in Destiny of End. What things I'd ever consider doing with the series. Other random notes and thoughts.

Then, I scrolled through a few of my very early ideas, and realize that I was a GENIUS! Such awesome things! Yes, Young Lani, I'll include those ideas!  Grinning

But then I saw it.... the early drafts of "Alternate endings".
Then I had to do a bit of deleting and MAJOR editing.  Laughing

Yeah, those were bad ideas.  Tongue sticking out

Also, I had checked out some "Game Development" articles, and the articles were pretty basic stuff. They acted as if they were advanced articles or something, but I already knew all of it... then I realized. So many indie games John Wolfe has played, and games I've seen other play REALLY need those articles.  Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing

Though now that I think about it, the very first article was about writing a game plot summary that allowed for many changes, and I don't think I have a full game plot summary yet. It's about 2/3 finished.
I should finish that  Happy with a sweat

Ugh. Sideview Battle System Tankentai XP - Version 2.2xp (or any version) should be classified as 'use at your own risk'.

Sideview Battle System Tankentai XP

Please don't post this script in other sites or comunity without autorization.

I'm no longer adding features to this battle system, the next updates will contain only bug fixes.

Updated to Version 2.2 | June - 02 - 2009

UNSUPPORTED SYSTEM.
Due to lack of updates by the original creator, this system is no longer supported by its poster.
Download Link no longer available.

I don't understand why it is still out there. Victor Sant (formerly Atoa) who supported it and worked on its maintenance took it off his board. It just doesn't work well with 'ANY' other battle script. Please... use something else. If you like the style, use Atoa's ACBS.

Still working on the help file. But slow-going right now. I got called in to work extra days now, so I am getting even LESS time to put fingers to keyboard for the lengthy and generally descriptive paragraphs needed.

The main problem with orphaned scripts is that you're stuck with them if there isn't any other script that offers the same.

That, and the scripting community being generally loathed to "reinvent the wheel".

Actually, it was the fact they did re-invent the wheel that was the problem. Systems that are 100% total rewrites make it difficult or near impossible to let add-ons function. Tankentai, for example, actively rewrote portions of the RPG::Sprite class while bypassing nearly all phase4 methods from the default battlesystem. And I crafted rewrites of the menus by Moghunter because he decided to make totally new window classes that no other menu add-ons would recognize.

IF THE CODE IS THERE, DON'T RE-INVENT IT! USE IT! ADD TO IT!

From what you mention, it seems that little to no caring went into making that script compatible with possible add-ons. It would be wrong for me to think that there was a possibility that was done intentional? I know of scripters that made their work purposely incompatible with the works of others for whatever reasons.

Or perhaps the author was only concerned into making the dang thing work first, everything else be damned.

With enu's Tankentai system, it was more towards making the most literal transition from a VX battlesystem into XP. This while many features (thus sections of code) were eliminated from RMVX's battlesystem and sprite system. Still, the demo (wherever it's found) come with a collection of addons written specifically for it... up until 2009.

But for Moggy? *shrugs* He likely figured the menus were enough.

What makes Mog's scripts so divisive, anyway? From what I could gather, it seems that people have some strong opinions about them.

Spaghetti code that makes the nice-looking stuff extremely laggy!
You EAT spaghetti, not use it for coding!  Laughing

I'm currently using some of Mog's scripts (Scene Status, Equip Status, Scroll/Battle Panorama to name a few) and I've never experienced (what I could consider) game breaking laggy-ness.
