The Weekly Gazette - 02-19-2012
(February 13 to February 19, 2012)
Welcome dear readers to the latest issue of the Weekly Gazette! Here in the Gazette, we give you the news in brief of what occurred in the past week as well as provide any news happening in Save-Point itself
Official Area
Announcements and Updates This week, Save-Point added a new link in the forum's navigation bar so members have access to the Forum Support Graphics. DerVVulfman said that the page that displays these graphics is based on PK8's "Show your Support" thread, but is more readily accessible as it is in the navigation bar. There is a selection of userbars and forum banners, though it isn't complete as he says there aren't any avatars or tinybars as yet.
Occasions This week, Guardian has returned to our community and gives a big hello to everyone. He's been lurking in some RPGMaker sites recently as he's started working on some random RPG stuff, and hopes that we don't mind him prowling around.
We had a good number of birthdays this week as the foursome of Hypec, OneWingedAnel, vargave and philliphh got to enjoy some cake. But It didn't take long before another foursome, basically dehelus, arcanite, Rui and plain_cookie, had their own birthday party.
General Chat One fo the things we may use to get inspiration for our projects is to play some games. So with that, it's fun to find out just What Games are you Currently Playing. It's been a month since anyone posted, so we have to give credit to Hybrida who rekindled the thread by posting his new addiction: Star Trek Online. It took his little lady to get him interested and he found it awesome. He may be stuck on it for some time. MagitekElite is currently relishing the gameplay of The Elder Scrolls VI: Skyrim on the PlayStation 3, is playing Uncharted 3 and is trying to get online with DC Universe. She's also playing Dissidia 012, Final Fantasy IX and mostly Final Fantasy VI on her PSP as it is her favorite. Ace is just finished Crysis and Crysis Warhead and just started on Crysis 2. And KasperKalamity is having a Critter Crunch fest.
A good way to know your fellow members is to find out What's on their Mind and this week KDC just had some fun with the M.U.G.E.N. Fighting Game engine from Electbyte, and relaxing in the College Student Lounge. PK8 was rather upset finding a link that mentioned a poor reaction to Chris Brown at the Grammies, and Olivia mentioned that it only proves that people are just shallow. She also said she missed PK8 and wondered if he had internet problems as he hadn't been on IRC lately. Meanwhile, Olivia wished everyone a happy Valentines day. Hybrida wished all singles to enjoy it too and KasperKalamity said that his girl Jill never let him down. Later, KasperKalamity built an enclosure for his rabbit's cage to keep the place rabbit-bedding free. He then enjoyed a couple steak dinners and a few shots of whiskey. Coming back again, KasperKalamity mentioned that he hates typing messages in his phone. Olivia was bummed out by her foster mom, but it's all good as her real mom brought over some chocolate. KasperKalamity went cloud watching and saw the face of God and as the clouds parted, he saw an apparent fight with a figure victorious punching someone. MetalRenard figured KasperKalamity saw Chuck Norris in the clouds. With Hybrida currently enjoying Star Trek Online, he took a current stardate record from his long and reported on his study of Anio-Tachyon, disrupter and high-yeild energy weapon technology.
But it isn't just playing games that can give one inspiration, but music as well. So it's always fun to find out what Music You're Listening To. MagitekElite is enjoying Game of Thrones, which uses a mixture of Violin and Rock. She loves violines along with piano and flute, but was pleasantly surprised to find how well violins worked with rock music. Olivia listened to a beautiful piece of music by Jennifer Hudson called Believe, and MagitekElite returned after enjoying a remake of Anxious Heart, a piece from the Final Fantaxy VI Game score, finding that some of the remade pieces are even better than the original works. Kain Nobel put a youtube of Necro Empowered in a spoiler as some of the music he's been listening to have bordered on raunchy and offensive, including the cover art. Rosair enjoyed a piece called Doomed by Headhunterz, KasperKalamity partied with Dance Party (I shall Exterminate) by Electric Six, and Kain Nobel enjoyed Ministry's Stigmata. Kain Nobel swears the song, 'New Religion', was some soul music, though the album cover to Black Label Society's album 'Shot to Hell' sports some nuns playing 8-ball.
If you want to know what Games our Members Want Made, KasperKalamity just envisioned a First Person Dodgeball game where you would face oppenents and shoot team colored dodgeballs at each other.
And you may be aware of Pherione's Gazette Interviews that appeared in the Weekly Gazette and received favorable feedback. Though Pherione currently has a busier schedule than before, he still would like to perform interviews, and his creating this thread is a way for our members to apply to be interviewed as well as being a feedback thread. Within, you can even find links to prevous interviews with such names as Olivia, Valdred and MetalRenard.
Forum Games & Nonsense Though it's been a while since DerVVulfman posted how You Might Be a Redneck Elf, Unrivaledneo followed it up by posting how one Might be a Redneck Hobbit.
Games Development
Development Discussion Being in the RPG Gamemaking community, you just want to know What's Up with your Fellow RPG Makers. Kain Nobel wrote a number of Input scripts for his project, figuring he needed a refresher course on his scripting. It's a milestone to him as he used to only write scripts when he was intoxicated and he quit drinking over two years ago. Looking at his work, MetalRenard was impressed.
Irea2574k posted some advertisement spam in our Maps and Screenshots thread that Olivia had to remove. MetalRenard noted and thanked everyone for reporting the spam as it was immediately flagged three times before it was taken down. Kain Nobel showed off his menu screen again after crafting a new windowskin and updated some issues with his version of Trickster's Gradient Bars. He says he's working on a limited inventory capacity system but only has the game data working. DerVVulfman pointed out that his Containers script has a system to list item weights and sizes which may be of some use.
If you wanted to know some of the experience our members had with other games, complete or otherwise, you might want to see what theirr first ever game was. Olivia created the thread for our members to post what their first project was, whether they released it or not. Thanks to her cousin who restored the old files from a damaged hard drive, Olivia posted her first RPGMaker XP game that she made when she was around twelve. She uploaded it and provided a link, even though she says it's hilariously bad.. MetalRenard said he had a couple projects, one he won't share publically though Pherone played it. Pherione in turn recommends that MetalRenard finish making it. Rosair's first game was Mystic SaGa, an embarrassingly incomplete game she made that was modeled after everything she loved from SquareSoft. 'The Island" was an interesting of RPG and bullethell shooter that Pherione tried to make with an older version of GameMaker. Kain Nobel's first game had about two dozen maps, from towns to dungeons. Unfortunately, the computer his game resided became a slug and it doesn't have the capability to transfer the data. Not all first projects have ground to a standstill as KasperKalamity's first project is still ongoing. It started life over a decade ago in a notbook during school, and was thought of first as a 3rd person slasher/shooter action game, but has evolved after a two year hiatus as he didn't know how then how to bring it to fruition. Like Kasper, yamina-chan't current project is also her first. It was originally going to be a little game so she could say "I have made a video-game." But she developed the game and it grew and grew into the project she now has. Going as far bask as RPGMaker for the PlayStation itself, PK8 made a few projects, one being a rip-off of CastleVania and another being a maze game where he was inventive to use the default gold system to hold his variable data as the PlayStation version of RPGMaker didn't have variables. And DerVVulfman talked about the story to his first RPG game that was a modern day thriller about a cop on the run because of a bogus a murder charge and the 18 year old daughter of the guy who may have set him up. As you can tell, it's been a fun and informative thread and KasperKalamity even took a line from Olivia's game, "Run. The King is Evil", and put it into his signature which inspired her to draw a funny lineart drawing of the King.
Upcoming Projects Nightmar has graced us with the topic of his game, Shadow of the Necromancersonce again, a game he's been working on for a number of months and hopes to finish by the end of the year. A fantasy adventure where an ancient evil of 300 years from the past returns as an ancient seal was broken, The High Priestess Vela embarks to find help to reseal the evil that threatens to destroy the world. Nightmar's thread is loaded with portraits and screenshots of the game, including menu and battlesystem screencaps.
Though she didn't officially bump her Persona Art and Design dump, MetalRenard told Rosair that she's pretty good at mapping but figured that the velvet room needed work and wasn't sure about her title screen.
MetalRenard didn't stop there as he also visited the Fragile Dreamers project thread of Rosair's as he kept his promise and supplied a sample of his voice for her. Rosair thinks his British accent may be a bit of a distraction, but feels he should fit in with a European character named Frey who'll show up in the latter half of the game.
RGSS Support Argol228 encountered an error in the demo for Mr Mo's ultimate ABS and pointed out the error to the exact line. DerVVulfman took a look at it and replied it was something that he needed to fix when Companions tried to attack without a weapon.

Material Development
Creativity Section Nightmar posted pieces of 3D Art Work which is his, though he paid for the models. You will see a pair of female forms scillouetted against a round yellow background, a pair of photorealistic shots of a woman in a long red dress and a pair of armored mages throwing some firespells about. Guardian came in to compliment him on the work, and Nightmar back informing him that he used the graphic programs called Poser and Vue to render his art.
hodu wanted to wish everyone a Happy Valentines Day for both singles and couples, and gifted us with an illustration he made of a pair of cute furry-eared characters, one wearing kitty-cat slippers.
And a strange-faced head in gray showed up in Olivia's Sketchbook/ It was followed by a portrait of a woman with brown wavy hair wearing a burgundy top, and then by a painting of some fruit.
But if literary material is more towards your taste, you may wish to visit Hybrida's thread, OFH: Life in Earth Fleet-X. It's a sneak peek into the universe he's crafting his game. And the text he's posting is from his comics which takes place betwen the eras of Star Force Hybrida and his game, Omega Force Hybrida.
Scripts Database DerVVulfman posted Kylee's Guild System, which he describes as a series of tools to let game creators define guilds for their game. It doesn't make an actual menu or have any windows, but it lets you perform checks and calls you can use in map events or the like.
And DerVVulfman bumped MrMo's ABS Ultimate to a new version after fixing a bug reported by Argol228 . He says the problem involved the companions trying to attack with no equipped weapons causing a problem when it tried to get the weapon's battle animation and there wasn't one.
Resources Database After being shown a characterset template, DerVVulfman took it upon himself to rework it and came up with the KoeKaiser Character Template. Based on the Koemushi template, he increased the size and width and shaped it so the male and female characters looked more and more differently, and figured they looked like smaller versions of the HalfKaiser template by ShowKaiser, hense the name. From what he posted, the thread is open source and invites others to work on it and develop graphics for its use. He also gave it a label stating it was a Save-Point exclusive.
And a new Fort Fence Autotile set made its appearance thanks to arnquist. Using two layers, one a top while the other the bottom layer, arnquist produced and presented a detailed, sharpened post fence tile. You can see how well it works as he also provided a screenshot of the fence in action.
Save-Point Exclusives
Crystal Legends Development There are continuing developments with our forum's MMO as the Crystal Legends Soundtrack has its first three pieces created. There are a pair of township pieces and a piece for a haunted house. Olivia came up with these and planned on a near-boss encounter in an isolated house. She also wonders if any of these would sound good with or without thunder in the background.
And Olivia posted a list of the Items and Plants that will be available in Crystal Legends, including potions that can be brewed, plants that can be harvested and items that may be forged. She invited anyone to add to the list if items as the list is rather plain right now, and that is exactly what Pherione did as he suggested minerals such as crystals and specific wood types used for different weapons like bows or staves.
Well, that's it for this week.

Personal standpoint...
"I believe in giving people options, not 'forcing' only one script or system upon everyone. Adaption is key, not specialization. Overspecialize, and you breed in weakness."
