(April 16 to April 22, 2012)

Welcome dear readers to the latest issue of the Weekly Gazette! Here in the Gazette, we give you the news in brief of what occurred in the past week as well as provide any news happening in Save-Point itself

Feedback and Suggestions
KasperKalamity wondered if anyone felt that the thanks button should really be a likes button, noting how InvisionBoard forums let him 'like' a post rather than giving 'thanks'. MetalRenard thought that a 'like' seemed more appropriate because he cannot 'thank' someone for just liking it. Ace felt that a Like system would seem more fitting, and PK8 recalled that he spent some time replacing every instance of 'Thanks' with Likes' one time before. However, yamina-chan prefers the use of 'Thanks' as she says it makes more sense giving someone thanks for something that is helpful while a 'Likes' can apply to virtually anything, even silly things like a pizza. And both FoxDemonSoavi and ClockworkAngel agrees with yamina-chan as it is more fitting for a help and resource site, and that likes could end up being spammed around for all sorts of things. Both MetalRenard and ClockworkAngel appreciated yamina-chan's pizza example, and ClockworkAngel feels that a counter showing a tally of 'Likes' may not display how much they were thanked for thier work or contributions.

General Chat
FoxDemonSoavi bumped her IRC Chatbox Thread so people can see it rather than asking her what all the commands are for the TashikaDeed IRC bot. It was later stickied by DerVVulfman.

MetalRenard showed up in our IRC Quotes after he twice caught ClockworkAngel trolling herself by accident. On the flipside, she caught EJlol trying to insult her, but failing as she and FoxDemonSoavi turned it around on him.

Have you been in the Funny Pictures Thread? Well, buprettyinpink has this week as she posted a few comic shots, including a pic that lets you subliminally hear Morgan Freeman and a another that was a burn on the Titanic.

And for those that want to hear some tunes, you may want to hear the same Music your fellow members are listening to as Ace is enjoying "Burn It Down", a new song from Linkin Park.

Whether they are relaxing or in deep thought, there is always something On the Mind of your members. KasperKalamity had a dream where he was stuck at Camp Crystal Lake from Friday the 13th, and was being chased by Jason who always found him. Glancing at the album cover to Black Mages III, Kain Nobel noticed all sorts of faint images in the background and posted some shots, drawing outlines of things such as the Ghost from Pacman, The Tin Man from the Wizard of Oz and plenty of other oddities. He invited people to see if they can find anything else because he kept seeing something new every time he glanced at it. LagunaX1 thought that the shapes Kain Nobel saw vaguely looks like what he saw, but felt it was more akin to finding a pattern or shape in star constellations, and KasperKalamity threw in his few cents worth adding that he definitely saw the smiling dolphin, the pacman ghost and more. It gave ClockworkAngel a laugh and she enjoyed getting some seriious event coding done in her project. But on the flipside, she wished that paint took less time to dry. It popped into KasperKalamity's head that it would be neat if Bigfoot was the immortal spirit of the Earth. But KasperKalamity later returned after watching a lot of ancient aliens media and posed a number of thoughts on the development of mankind and how the theories of Ancient Aliens not only altered our evolution, but were the actual cause of our existance. He talked about the three popular races mentioned in the literature, the Greys, the Nordics and the Reptilians, and how Earth may even have been the battlefield for a war. LagunaX1 replied back, noting how evolution worked and that traits that man has can be seen in other species on Earth, and that there was another humanoid species in existance until ours became the dominant race. He warned Kasperkalamity to rewatch the shows and notice how these idea could be created with little to no effort or proof. KasperKalamity came back and said it was odd that primates were the only species with the same arms, legs, hands form. Such dialog between the two got a comic reply from PK8. But LagunaX1 returned and pointed out that there were a large number of primate species in the world, and how other species have certain traits that appear singularly theirs like how bats are apparently the only non-feathered winged flying species and how whales and dolphis are the only mammals with fins. But on the flipside he also pointed out that the Koala Bear, while not a primate, also has the same frame as humans, even having the opposable thumb. He feels that what we see is the latest thing in evolution, self awareness. But he does think that the alien angle can make great stuff to consider for video games. The discussion was put on halt as MetalRenard pointed out that the discussion could be an interesting thread on its own. yamina-chan forgot what was initially on her mind when she ventured into the thread as she received a letter that elated her as she will take place in the acceptance test as a kindergarten teacher. Unfortunately, they didn't tell her what to prepare for, so she's going to have to restudy at least two years worth of material. At the same time, ClockworkAngel says she's getting a new job herself, a job in the bar of a hotel near where she lives. But LagunaX1 thinks she'd end up scaring the customers away. And after 8 years of driving, it dawned on KasperKalamity that he can't recall how he could fit comfortably in a passenger seat with his big feet. Meanwhile, Kain Nobel was interruped by someone who thought he was playing some blues while he was actually practicing a solo at a slower speed to make sure he caught every note perfectly. It turned out she preferred it at a slower pace.

KasperKalamity created a new thread that asks its members just What are you Tubing. a fun topic that lets our members post links to funny, interesting and/or distracting youtube videos.

But just as his thread was posted, DerVVulfman learned that Youtube lost a lawsuit in Germany when a number of musicians collectively suied the Google-owned site because their copyrighted work was being shown without permission. DerVVulfman posted a link to the initial source for viewing and garnered a number of responces to the thread. MetalRenard felt that Youtube shouldn't be held accountable for actions by the posters because they would remove the media when asked. However, DerVVulfman replied that the now defunct filesharing site, MegaUpload, probably used the same argument. KasperKalamity chimed it that it may be the spark of the 2012 civil war. Olivia sympathized on both ends since she loves getting free stuff like everyone else, but understands that the media industries lose millions because we'd prefer to get our media online for free. Youtube is still vulnerable to the law, even though they employ people to try and remove thousands of videos daily. MetalRenard came in and said that the issue isn't really piracy but that the publishing companies such as the American Film Assiciation need to revise their business structure. yamina-chan appeared to be familiar with, Gema, the organization that sued Youtube on behalf of the musicians whose work was found on the video sharing site. Olivia returned again to point out that the media companies would need to make sure about the media licensing for every country they want their media available, something that is expensive, let alone it meets the law of the country. She said that Youtube as a license holder must also pay for this or take it down, .And one reason they have ads is to pay for these as well as lawyers and the rest of the staff. MetalRenard replied back that Olivia missed his point that the industry still needs to adapt to the changing format, and that YouYube has made a large surplus of revenue from advertisements alone. But DerVVulfman shot back that the musicians are being harmed because it could mean that people could get their work for free and the industries who lose money may not be able to pay for the artists if it continues. Dialog betwen DerVVulfman and MetalRenard continued for at least two pages with MetalRenard indicating that the industry should use Youtube or like services to offer their wares for modest fees that could build up with relative ease while DerVVulfman interjected that privately posted media could hamper the industry as advertisements there would not go to the industry at all. Between it all, they both were in full agreement that stealing media was wrong, MetalRenard being a music producer who is affected by this himself. Meanwhile, DerVVulfman stated that while the industry's garnering of revenue would be hampered as long as privately posted videos are available, he also suggested that actions should be taken against the providers of the pirated videos rather than Youtube itself. In the midst of the dialog, he made an example from a fake chatroom quote, a quote that made KasperKalamity chuckle and decide on a new rockband name. Taylor made an appearance, agreeing with MetalRenard in that the moment the media industry releases their media for easier access, piracy would go down, citing that in New Zealand, a lot more of their product is sent overseas and Piracy for these works is almost the only way to get it. Olivia. brought up that Vevo made efforts to follow the plan for industry related media, but no one likes Vevo and posted a link showing the many reasons (censoring, boycotting media from some countries, etc.). And movies would likely cost too much for plain advertisements. She wouldn't mind having advertisements to help fund Save Point, but fears it would annoy the members.

Forum Games & Nonsense
Let us return to ClockworkAngel's Roleplaying thread, Nebula Gravis where Vena and Wynn, her guide and guardian, finally exit the dangers of the dark forest to approach Ciniria City. Just after reaching the shore of Nigerautumnus, Zackwell spotted the ghost of a young maidenl just outside of a menacing forest. Wishing to get a better view of the surroundings, he decided to use the crow's nest of a nearby marooned ship. Haunted, the vessel contained spirits that brimmed with sorrow, their sorrow almost rendering Zackwell unable to react. Within the vessel, haunted the spirit of the captain whose incredible will clung to the mortal world. Forcing a battle onti Zackwell, the ship began to catch fire from the captain's fiery barriage, but that was enough to let Zackwell use his sword of flame to seal the Captain's fate. His last request was for Zackwell to release the spirit of his daughter's ghost to Heaven. The shard from Reynard's grasp burned and shattered in a flash, summoning forth a windstorm that swirled around the area. Rubble from small pebbles to large chunks of stone stewn around were flung into the air, and Reynard found himself hovering overhead as the stonework coalesed into a reformed Itzal Castle, complete with towering spires, gold encrusted decorations and a sundial that caught his attention. Realizing it was enchanted to be a guiding compass, he took it and ventured towards a valley known as the Torn Gap where hundreds found a strange purple mist, a tear within the world where no one returns. Zackwell heard the bloodcurdling screams that issued after some men and women ventured into the mist and disappeared through the gap, screams and that he recognized when his brother disappeared. With determination, he flung himself into the gap and disappeared. Itzal felt a great relief once the shard was no more as he was no longer plagued with nightmares from the past. However, his recent torment was a drain on him and he was exhausted. Finally able to rest after his vicious battle against Phantom, Marcus took note of the blood coating his arm and the gash on his head. He also took note of the strange purple haze everywhere and surmised he was no longer in his realm, but the realm of Autumn since the Phantom was supposed to be a Great Spirit of that realm. Using the legends and myths he remembered as a guide, and set off to find a way back. And while traveling to the city if Itzal, Lillith was still coming to grips that she traveled the countryside with her newfound her father, let alone that he was Stirna the God of Destruction. While they approached the Torn Gap, they sensed a demon approaching them to do them harm. A shriek that would have sent chills through a mortal merely made the two turn around. And on seeing Stirna, the demon face was frozen in terror before it was struck down by three tremendous lightning strikes. And so began this week's journey...

Games Development
Development Discussion
ClockworkAngel posted a test map within our Maps and Screenshots thread as she wanted to show off her spooky Interior_b edit from the RPGMaker VXAce RTP. She later returned with a couple more screenshots after editing all her tilesets. She got cheers from Ace and MetalRenard said that her edits looked good minus a couple things he said about perspective. And Charlie Fleed has begun to miss working with RPG Maker, however work on Hartacon continues and he showed another screenshot of his game with the new life meters.

If you want to know What's up with your fellow RPG Making members. this week Kain Nobel is trying to work out how to properly record music. A friend wanted to hang out and they could take turns taking control of the recording session while the other plays guitar, something he admits he isn't the best at playing. He intends to stick to it, though he may need to put a copy of Reaper on another PC as the bedroom isn't the best place to jam. Whether that's the case, he started getting the hang of Reaper and likes it. It's been helping him improve his work to professional sounding media. He even created a pair of game tracks, "Rollin' City Heights" and "Lurking Beneath The Surface", both of which being linked in his post. MetalRenard came in and posted that Kain Nobel can continue to ask him questions about Reaper as he spent thousands of hours to learn the system. MetalRenard has also been writing some guitar rock, more in style of Alice in Chains rather than The Scorpions. Meanwhile, AGAFURO has been rebalancing his battles and checking the dialogue in his game while trying to come up with a funny ending to a demo. KasperKalamity has realized he has a dillema. He decided he wants to have three tiers of endings for his game, giving good, neutral and bad results each of the six characters, along with a separate tier system for the game's character arcs and the game overall. In essense, his cakculations told him that he would have at least 54 results for just one of the three endings, something that made him wonder how many ending combinations were possible. AGARFURO counted that around 729 permutations may be about right, and recalled some SNES games that had 4000 different games, though they were all Tetris. Charlie pleaded not to have 729 different endings while KasperKalamity said he'll say 'Over 728 Unique Endings" while he looked at all the different permutations available based on their stats and more.

General Support
Kain Nobel went looking for some General Help using Reaper Software to record some guitar tracks. He had difficulty actually hearing what he was recording as he was playing, something he needed to do. MetalRenard saw the screenshot that was posted of Kain Nobel's system setup and told him how to control the Audio options of the system to get the desired effect. Kain Nobel thanked him for the input, though he mentioned a bad crackling issue. MetalRenard returned to mention that Kain Nobel should check and change his driver setting to accommodate it, or consider a particular type of sound card. Kain Nobel again thanked him and changed the topic of the thread as the ""Reaper - General Help" topic. and asked him if he could take his FL tracks, render them and play over them. MetalRenard posted a youtube video, one of the first tutorials he worked on, to help Kain Nobel out more. And all Kain Nobel needs to do to jam to his tracks was to drag and drop his FL rendered .wav formatted tracks into reaper and enjoy. On reading MetalRenard's reply, he headdesks and thanked MetalRenard for all he's done.

RGSS Support
Keyren ventured to the support thread seeking Help with KGC's RankConception script, a Japanese RPGMaker XP script that lets you change the position of your character in the default battlesystem. He knew te system basically needed him to create a script so he could make a battler go from a front position to a middle or rear position, but his attempts were unsuccessful. DerVVulfman came into the post, and informed Keyren that the KGC script would need to be removed as KGC's own website said the scripts were exclusive to that site alone and their terms were being honored. But he said he would let the script stay up for a short time nonetheless. DerVVulfman later returned and came up with a fix, posting exerpts where Keyren could make changes and described exactly what to do to make the battlers change their positions in the battlesystem. Keyren thanked him as the fix worked perfectly for what he needed. Since then, the KGC script had been removed from the initial post.

Material Development
Scripts Database
DerVVulfman returned once again to bump MrMo's ABS Ultimate as he added a new Hit and Run feature so enemies could immediately start a dodge after landing a blow. He also said he rewrote the enemy's decision making system so it worked more like the default battlesystem's method of performing an action and added a fix for those not wishing to use a multiple slot system.

Resources Database
ClockworkAngel showed up with some Simple Edits to the tilesets she's using for RPGMaker VXAce. This thread, not likely to be updated by her, carries some graphics she made for one of the haunted levels she has in a current project and says they can be used as long as she's being given credit for the work. The first set of tiles contain moving charactersets so items may appear to be bobbing up and down in the air while the second is a tileset where various objects can be clearly seen covered in blood, whether it be curtains, cabinets or chairs.

Resource Requests
JWCaisa reported in to make a few Graphic Requests last week as he needed a pickup truck for a romance game, but he later added that he could also use an IceCream truck too. KasperKalamity came in and asked if he had a sketch of what he had in mind, and buprettyinpink wondered what size sprite he wanted as Kain Nobel had some truck sprites somewhere in the forum. Unfortunately, JWCaisa isn't much of a sketch artist. But he is interested in what Kain Nobel has in lieu of truck sprites, again adding he still needs an Ice Cream Truck sprite.

Creativity Section
Art & Design
Are you tired of seeing that old cabinet in the corner and thought it needed a serious makeover? Well, buprettyinpink has been using some of her skills to Repurpose some Furniture, bringing some older cabinetry to life. She found an old record player cabinet for $12 and used some fabric and paint to spruice it up, showing before and after pics. She did the same to a TV stand she bought for only $5 and attacked it with some wood filler and paint to give it a new look.

A new animated gif showed up in buprettyinpink's pixel art, sketches and writings topic. From the side, the character resembles one from Sailor Moon, dressed as one of the Sailor Scouts.

Meanwhile, Ace returned to his Art and Feedback Thread as he posted a lineart sketch he did in school when he had nothing better to do. Currently being colored using photoshop, the black and white image shows a bare-chested hero brandishing a thick curved sword.

"a lot more of their product is sent overseas and Piracy for these works is almost the only way to get it".
I was actually referring to outside product not reaching us. Usually because of region locking, but in the case of Youtube providing things ought to be easy. (... if not for the region locking there as well.)
