(April 23 to April 29, 2012)

Welcome dear readers to the latest issue of the Weekly Gazette! Here in the Gazette, we give you the news in brief of what occurred in the past week as well as provide any news happening in Save-Point itself

Official Area
Announcements and Updates
DerVVulfman posted a thread about The Newly Tagged Topics in Save-Point. He brought up that a number of the boards in the forum now have prefix tags that can help the members be able to more easily identify topics while glancing through.

Occasions
A good number of our fellow members had birthdays to celebrate, starting this week off with Xandhoniox's, FaraJones's and Xaenik1's. Later on the trio of Kristovski, eileen16 and weirzkreuz had their own birthday, followed by the birthdays of Spark475, TTrain427 and ttrain, though the latter two are probably the same member. And lastly, continuing this oddity of birthdays in threes, mremu5, Kread-EX and deathmonka shared the same birthday.

General Chat
A number of things seem to be on the mind of our community members, though bigfoot and aliens aren't on the agenda this week. However, KasperKalamity has been having re-occurring dreams where he is in a burning desert, only able to walk sluggishly. And forcing his eyes open with the sun bearing down on him wakes him up. He's wondering if it sounds like something caused by Sleep Apnea. While acknowleging she's not a medic, yamina-chan doesn't believe that KasperKalamity's dream is such a symptom. But, she gave her own personal interpretation to his dream's meaning using her talent as a writer. But yamina-chan has been having trouble sleeping herself, unable to get a good night's rest thinking the cause of it being the stress of her upcoming acceptance tests. KasperKalamity suggested that she get some Diphenhydramine which is an allergy medication with the same ingredient as unisom, saying he gets weird dreams when he takes it. But yamina-chan would prefer not to have medicine-induced dreams and wasn't sure about the name of the store he recommended for the drug. KasperKalamity replied back about the store and that the weird dreams were a side effect and his allergies were real. He knows that a friend of his in the netherlands could only get it by a prescription and knows it by other names such as Benedryl, Unisom and Sominex.

Meanwhile, KasperKalamity found some new Funny Pictures to show off. He grabbed a black and white clip that shows a guy attacking someone from behind... failing badly. He also wanted to show you someone on a unicycle the likes you've never seen before.

Other photos came this way thanks to Ace visiting the topic that has Pictures of You.

Kain Nobel opened a new topic About Marijuana as legal controversy around the drug continues. He delivers a brief history of the plant, including its past uses for textile and other uses as well as the actual reason it was classified illegal. He goes on to show the old Public Service Announcements from the 60's that label Marijuana as a gateway drug, a term he hates and points out that the victim in the PSA was more likely coerced into using Heroine by her boyfriend in the video than by the joint. He stated that it isn't its use that ruins lives, but negative connotations and accusations by family members who abhor its use. And while he appreciates the law, he cannot agree with the law regarding what he calls a crop that is practically harmless. However, he finds it silly how suddenly Marijuana is being labeled a cure-all in some circles. He isn't against the whole 'medical marijuana' movement and is thrilled how some sicentists are finding it useful as a cure for certain kinds of cancer. But he already found it therapeutic when he was a teenager and his prescription medications and doctors failed to take care of his anxiety problems where marijuana succeeded, though his parents are still unaware. He says that he didn't even need to continue smoking it, his anxiety problems were gone even while he stopped. Giving support to Kain Nobel's argument, ClockworkAngel replied that she is familiar with a Marijuana user who is in his third year of studying Geographical Science at a university in Northumberland, along with a fair number of other users she knows. But on the other side, Olivia, who admits has personal reasons for disliking the drug, offered that Marijuana has different effects on different people, and it comes down to when someone overdos anything, it becomes addictive and thus could become a gateway drug. While she compares it to being as harmful as alcohol or tobacco, she can't see it being legalized. MetalRenard, not wanting to get involved into a debate, has also known Marijuana users and stated how it got so bad that a couple of them unfortunately ended up as cocaine users. Following an injury during wrestling practice, KasperKalamity learned from his doctor that he was living in a state where Marijuana could be prescribed legally. That was two years ago, and enjoys its ability to escape reality, though he also says he doesn't drive or go to work high, being able to handle it. And he figures the liquor companies would have serious problems if Marijuana was legalized. Olivia recalls a time when she was very young how her household smelt of Marijuana from constant use, and one could get high just from visiting for a while. She agrees that it, like alcohol, can make its user feel happy, but that it is messing with your brain chemistry do do so. She acknowledges that it doesn't force a physiological dependence, but it could make one hooked psychologically from overuse. Olivia says it's hard to get a definite answer about whether or not it is harmless as there are so many conflicting reports and studies, but brought up how tobacco was once considered to be beneficial. KasperKalamity mentioned that he's the type of person that is very active and goes stir crazy if he can't get outside. Only when he cannot, does the miserable feeling come out. Meanwhile, he would like to point out that one could get addicted to anything that makes the user feel good, be it Marijuana, drinking coffee, working out, chewing on tongues or whatever, and would like to point out that moderation is key to everything.

Last week, KasperKalamity wondered What are you YouTubing, as he posted a couple fun videos. This week, Kain Nobel entered and though he said he knew everything about Ozzy Osbourne, he enjoyed watching a documentary made by his son. Later, KasperKalamity found some kids playin Rammstein and a 5 year old boy playing 'Folsom Prison Blues'.

Finally, comic times can be found in the chatroom as MetalRenard returns to the IRC Quotes! topic to show how to drive off a werewolf.

Forum Games & Nonsense
Let us venture into the realm of Nebula Gravis, ClockworkAngel's Roleplay thread as Reynard awakens within the void of the Torn Gap to find something enchained within. While within the Undran Tomb, Itzal broke the seals and waited for that which he released to come forward, all the while wondering how he knew what he knew.

Meanwhile, a new Roleplay game has ventured into Save-Point, and again it is by ClockworkAngel. If you are looking for a more modern Roleplay venue, then Lumen Sonata may be for you as it takes place in a semi post-aplocalyptic cyberpunk fantasy world. More modern touches and some mildly futuristic technological touches, but splashed with enough monstrous creatures and magical elements to give it a touch of fantasy. The game takes place in the far future while guardians and demons wage a secret war. The dark forces use a power called Lunim that can corrupt all it touches, killing a normal human in an agonizing yet swift manner, creating a minion known as a Darkling. Meanwhile the guardians use a heavenly power called Solis, and set up numerous guild houses to combat this threat, and the game centers around 'Zephyr Aurora', the 531st guild. It didn't take long before Matt Shald, a black haired character was created by MetalRenard. This tough guy loves explosions and taking on Darklings, his previous wounds healed or repaired by Dr Frost as he now boasts a cybernetic eye, arm and parts of his torso. In fact, the first thing Matt does is to grab a bottle of Vodka after waking up. Not long after that did Neil Vogel appear. A former pilot and ex-member of Hunter Guild 473, this carefree individual who has survived by either sheer luck or skill usually appears wearing just jeans and a shirt and his black hair is generally disheveled.

Games Development
Development Discussion
Kain Nobel has been busy and wanted to let people know What's up with RPGMakers out here. He gave MetalRenard a big thanks for showing him around, as he recorded a piece using FL Studio, live guitar tracks and worked on with Reaper. He posted a link to his work, an experimental piece. And he hopes to compose something awesome soon. Meanwhile, DerVVulfman continued to work on hair styles for his project. He calculated he worked on 36 different charactersets, but said that his custom graphics meant he edited over 5000 frames total. Meanwhile, Taylor has been working on a second fog for his map after altering the size of the window. However, he's experiencing a problem with extra additions not disposing, even with the RMXP SDK supposedly having an auto dispose system.

The Maps and screenshots thread is a good showcase for whatever game you want to show off, even before it is released, and Charlie Fleed showed up twice this past week. The first time he did, Charlie Fleed posted a screenshot from Hartacon, now boasting new life meters in the game. The second time he ventured in, Charlie Fleed posted a new skill shop screen along with what he had previously. But he's not the only one in the Maps and screenshots thread as PK8 wanted to show off a bloom effect for RPGMaker VXAce. He found the only drawback is that the whole map has to be rendered with a script and saved in a folder before the bloom effect could be rendered.

And for those not aware, there is a poll and push to have a legal RPGMaker 2003 system to be in the works. Archeia, a fellow member and a staff member of RPGMakerweb, started a poll over there, and apparently prompted a petition at Change.Org for a legal release.

Complete Projects
It has been a while since Dark Gaia posted a new game in the forum, but this week, he returns and presents to us One Night: Full Circle. It is the final game in the One Night series, and is a semi remake of One Night 3: Shadows of Stilwater, replacing the previous game with a rewritten one that fixes all the flaws and problems. As a bonus, this game that takes place within a small mining town has two new areas with which to explore. In the game, you searches for your sister, a journalist who disappeared along with the citizens of Stillwater three months prior, though you just received a letter from her now. Is she still alive?

Upcoming Projects
A new thread has just opened up as Dark Gaia is now working on Legionwood 2: Rise of the Eternal's Realm, a sequel to a 20+ hour RPG game available in RPGMaker.Net. Being developed with RPGMaker VXAce, he plans on a 15 hour quest that spans the empire of Trevelle with challenging enemies, difficult puzzles and plenty of adventure. It takes place where Legionwood: Tale of the Two Swords ended. Barbarians from the west have invaded taking over two major cities on the border. Now, Lionel Morton, a guard has transferred to a battalion assigned to take back the captured towns, one of which his love resides.

Music is one of the things happening to Magin as MarianFrae announced that MetalRenard finished working on the main theme for the game. She also announced that Brent Anderson is a new member to the team, working on both spriting and animations for the game. She's come up with a tentative date for fundraising, but may have to get a few things in order. She has a blog in Legacy-Studios if you want to look at the prize list, and would like to hear from you if you're interested in buying the OST.

KasperKalamity is back in action and a new demo for Arbor's Eve should be coming out extremely soon as said he'd spend all day Saturday on it.

Material Development
Scripts Database
PK8 caught the scripting bug as he worked dillegently on systems for RPGMaker XP, RPGMaker VX and RPGMaker VXAce together. He first recreated his self switches and selv variable scripts into a single Self Data Suite! wich is a collection that lets you design various selfswitches, and the like to virtually anything in the RPGMaker Database. Items, Actors, Enemies, and the like are all available to be touched by the system and can be used to let developers create whole new systems.

Meanwhile, ClockworkAngel put forth a request that PK8 couldn't help but answer as he worked on the Mirror Events script he designed for all three current RPGMaker platforms. An attempt to mimic the NPC mirror effect he saw in games like Super Mario RPG, you can set up events that can move based on the player's input.

PK8 even made a new script that makes it so Pictures Can Scroll Too for RPGMaker XP, VX and VXAce. Now, you can specify which picture IDs will scroll along with the map, while others remain stationary in the screen.

Not one to let a script slip by his watch, PK8 took Woratana's original RMVX script and ported his own version of the Picture Below Characters for both RPGMaker XP and RPGMaker VXAce. Now, you can have pictures visible below the characters but above the game map for these game platforms.

PK8 continued his work, bumping the Pathfinding script by Near Fantastica with edits of Version 1 for RPGMaker VX and RPGMaker VXAce.

PK8 even worked on a system to add More Move Routes to RPGMaker XP, adding a collection of new custom routes which end users may find extremely useful or downright quirky.

And finally, DerVVulfman released his Simple SP Bonus Damage that can let you create skill attacks that drain a target's skill points. As a bonus, he included a separate damage pop script within the thread.

Personal standpoint...

Hahaha @ "Never go to a doctor whose office plants have died." - Erma Bombeck (1927.1996)

Yeah, especially if its the same doctor that grows your medical marijuana! No seriously though, that's probably the best advice I've heard in years. Awesome gazette as always, thanks for posting it!

Its so awesome to see P` scripting again, man you're going all out! I hope a healthy strain of whatever 'scripting bug' you've caught is contagious, feel free to cough on me so I can catch it lol.
