Announcements and Updates
Our Technical Administrator, Kore, announced that there was a Scheduled Maintenance for the 19th of May, where he had taken down the boards so a full backup and upgrade would be performed. Admittedly, he figures a few nagging bugs may show, but the bugs would be minimal and he intended to have the site back running in as short a time as possible. KasperKalamity inquired as to what was being repaired, and Kore replied about fixing three SQL injection vulnerabilities, a cross site scripting vulnerability, and a vulnerability due to cookies. He didn't want to go into too many specifics in the topic, let people who like to take advantage of these issues may take advantage before the repair. However, he did point out that the bug fixes he mentioned were low-risk. The maintenance cycle went off, but creation of the nonsecurity related bug list had begun.
Feedback and Suggestions
It has been a while since yamina-chan opened the topic discussing how something is wrong with the forum script listing, but felt it be a good idea to continue it for any relevant glitches. Though it means more work for moderators, she feels that the definition of a script should be how to sort the scripts within their categories rather than the title. And she encountered a problem in the listing after clicking on a link for Zeriab's Dialog system. DerVVulfman came by and tried the link that yamina-chan mentioned and found the link had worked. But he says he will go through it [the listing] one more time when he gets the chance, and wonders if some issues came from a scripter who has recently been editing his script topics. Issues like this is why yamina-chan feels that this thread should remain active.
Narzew put in a thought about having a New chating system which he felt would be better, wishing to link our forum's chat with HBGames and RPGRevolution's into the same place. He mentioned a chat client called ICEQ - Ikari Chat Enchanced Qlient, providing a link, and the translations of several commands. He would have liked to be able to translate the commands into English, but the system was encrypted. Hybrida figured that there would be a number of problems. DerVVulfman wondered if Narzew was talking about having a single chatroom shared between the three forums, which he said would likely be impossible given that each forum would have their own moderation staff and rules to follow. However, he suggested that if it was a question of using a chat client to view the three IRC rooms simultaneously, he provided a pair of clients to consider. That wasn't the case as Narzew mentioned a single IRC channel for all three forums and the use of the ICEQ client alone. But DerVVulfman told him it would be impossible as one of the three forums owns their own dedicated IRC channel while another forum, owned by a conglomerate, would not likely switch. With that, Narzew understood that linking the three forums into a single IRC channel would be impossible. PK8 read the conversation, and it reminded him how he attempted to bridge forum chats, not once but twice, and it didn't work out either time. The experience was too stressful for everyone involved within both forum groups, and he wouldn't want to see it happen again.
Occasions
Though he thinks his intro may be running late, buddysievers felt he should say 'Hi' to everyone. Also known as griver03, our new member hails from Germany like a good number of our regulars. He's been in the RM scene as far back as RPGMaker 2000 when Don Miguel first translated it and had used both it and RPGMaker 2003 for a while, though only systems were produced. He decided a couple years ago to take on RPGMaker XP and craft a game. So almost 2 years and two painful harddrive crashes later, he's about ready to release a playable demo.
And just joining Save-Point this week is Strauss, whose talent lay in writing. He's offering his talents for anyone who is interested and he's always wanted to write for a video game. Oh, and if you see his intro page, he posted a youtube video symbolizing his entry for a touch of panache.
General Chat
Ever popular is our thread that asks our members just What's on your mind, and the talk about a possible upcoming conflict came up... and a zombie apocalypse, the first thing from MetalRenard's keyboard was "Hrm. Zombies." Taylor's reactied negatively to the notion of a pre-meditated strike against a country to prevent that coutry from itself striking out. Meanwhile, he revealed to us that he is self-conscious about his height, thinking his lack of confidence spills out through the internet. Pherione read.and replied to a portion of Taylor's talk on censorship, because some opinions may be left alone while others are removed, and those could make the censored individuals feel oppressed. He also backed up Taylor's argument against war to stop war, citing how a nation may be forced to lash out, such as Germany in WWII. But KasperKalamity pointed out that Germany didn't have nuclear arms capability and that a first strike to prevent a nuclear war is the thought in mind. MetalRenard pointed out to the posters that the continued war discussion could be a whole new thread. After that, Taylor became keen on watching the new episode of Sherlock, but became confused after seeing it. And G.I. Toez is psyched up over Diablo III. On the bad side, KasperKalamity's right shoulder has been giving him hell for the past four days because he's been sleeping on it. And Hybrida predicts dark times ahead for Sony Corp, as he's noticed drops in all their departments and a loss of over $6 billion last year. Meanwhile, Taylor mused over a quote from Ambrose Bierce regarding the day. PK8 posted what appeared to be a strange attempt to buy something at Gamestop, foiled by a mixture of spaghetti and an upset bowel problem. MetalRenard was not sure what he read, but KasperKalamity thought someone was tripping on acid. After that, KasperKalamity wrote about digging six graves for pigs in Virginian clay to study decomposition. And after seeing PK8's post, he started to become nauseous until he recognized the meme.
Do you want to let your fellow members know how good you look? If so, the members may want to see some Pictures of you, just like KasperKalamity posted this past week. However, he decided to post a picture of he and some friends in a wrestling shot, he dressed in a red wrestler's leotard and shades to look like Homestar Runner.
And buddysievers wondered if anyone tried out Morrowblivion, a total conversion mod for The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion that recreates the previous Ellder Scrolls game, Morrowwind, with stunning detail. He is curious if the mod is good or not as his copy of Oblivion isn't the English Language version. However, he's been thinking about buying the two games anyway, being a fan of the Bethesda Softworks series. Ace thought the mod sounded cool, but he too only has a German version of Oblivion. And MetalRenard only has the fifth game in thier TES RPG franchise, Skyrim. buddyseivers mentioned that he enjoyed Skyrim, playing it three times, and mentioned that the game may be ported soon. Pherione, after reading the thread, now wished he didn't get Oblivion for the Playstation 3. But buddysievers mentioned that the Playstation 3 version had the advantages of less lag and that the gamepad in itself was an advantage. He also mentioned that he got the Anniversary Edition of Oblivion with a complete 'Making of", but the Making Of for Skyrim was much better.
Meanwhile, DerVVulfman found a Funny Picture where he found a very novel energy drink with packaging that caters to Vampire lovers everywhere.

Development Discussion
If you are still wondering What's up with our RMers, MetalRenard suggested to yamina-chan last week that she should try and reduce the volume where her music tracks split to help reduce problems where it loops. She responded, saying she would give it a try, saving her hours of frustration. She also thanked KasperKalamity for his offer of help, but she has a number of pieces and needed to figure out how to take care of the issue herself. Taylor was curious about MetalRenard's fix and said the only issue he had with Audacity is with MP3s adding a millisecond of silence where Ogg Vorbis formats seem to avoid. But in answer, MetalRenard supplied a link to his newest post that talks about looping audio in your projects. G.I. Toez appears to be elated over a Zombie mod, and ClockworkAngel is having fun creating new puzzles for Kurokiri Labyrinth, though they are for later levels in her game. PK8 posted a screenshot of a tool wished he finished years ago. And development on Hartacon Tactics is on the back burner as Charlie Fleed is spending all day working in Zhangjiagang, China. However he found a new artist who'll likely be making his character designs with pre-rendered 3D models. DerVVulfman asked if Charlie needed someone to house-sit for him, then went on that he's getting to the instructions writing phase for the crafting system he's been working on. The battlesystem that yamina-chan may soon be replaced by whbm's Full-motion battlesystem which she's grown fond and finally learned how to set it up. However, she figures she may not be able to have as many custom battlers she may desire to use. KasperKalamity feels for yamina-chan as he couldn't get into using RPGMaker 2003 because of the animated battle system and didn't think he could handle that amount of detail. In the meantime, KasperKalamity decided to updating the Facebook page for his game, Arbor's Eve. Adding bits of gaming news, reviews and material, he's worried that the RPGMaking scene is dying and it disheartens him. Even posting at RPGMaker.Net, he found there were only four downloads for his game. yamina-chan suggested to make a more interesting thread, or perhaps a teaser/trailer to make people curious. Even to add something into his signature, something he already did. PK8 posted a shot of a fieldmap with various tiles with odd color effects and gasped. KasperKalamity wondered if PK8 switched some tilesets around. Taylor figured that PK8 may have used a tilemap hue-changing script, but was curious if it PK8 managed to do exactly that by individual tiles. PK8 said the screenshot is a mess, but the script he's working on is to let game makers craft more appealing maps, letting them add as many tiles in a single spot, shifting placement by mere pixels while changing their attributes, and more. KasperKalamity wondered if it would let people be able to take advantage of more than the three layers available in RPGMaker XP. PK8 later returned with more screenshots combining randomly placed tiles in conjunction with the game-over screen and battle animations combined, figuring he's finally gone off the deep end. And Taylor found that if he switched a few buttons around on his controller, his game feels like one from an actual gaming console. Meahwnile, buddysievers is nearly done with his game's Title and intro screens, but says he may need just a few sprites here and there. He's even finished 90% of the maps fir his game's first chapter. However, he needs to get his Job script working and hopes someone can come to his aid soon. Taylor just discovered that his copy of ccoa's 'UMS: Ultimate Message System" had a fault in the conditional branching system, something that he says was in even a recent demo download. He grimaced since he doesn't know how to contact her about a fix. yamina-chan said she didn't encounter any bugs, let alone the one described. She knows that the UMS isn't 100% glitchfree but knows her copy and one she downloaded didn't have the glitch he mentioned, but she did encounter a problem with it and a vehicle script that annoyed her for a year. Meanwhile both she and Taylor agree that they both have a hard time making up puzzles in their projects. DerVVulfman mentioned that he'll take a look at the problem and mentioned that he's now hosting it as the site ccoa originally had the demo went down. He also said that ccoa was still around and is a member of DeviantArt. PK8 ported his UGLM: Unlimited Graphically Layered Maps system to work with RPGMaker VXAce and is looking for more free time to enhance it further. And Taylor returned to show a screenshot of his show choices window, expressing how the 'branch' option for cancelled choices just exits out and does nothing while other options function properly.
RGSS Support
DerVVulfman still had issues downloading the demo Narzew posted when he said he had an Error with his script that he wanted resolved. However, Narzew didn't receive the error message that DerVVulfman saw, and decided to post the scripts he's using in full. THe first two, his own set of methods and his NCEA scripts work fine, but the third that encrypts maps is the one that has issues.
And buddyseivers placed forward a new query to fix a Bugfix for an addon for a job system, an addon that wasmade for him. He provided a demo that included both scripts for examination. However, the request was quickly solved.
Or at least, buddysievers thought that until he put forth a request for a Second Bugfix for the addon for the job system he is using. He went on to explain that he is also using the Legacy Class Change script as the main script along with having both add-on fixes, one that works fine and the newer one he would rather use but is having problems. He's unable to tell if his whole skills system is even working as it is dependent on the add-on fix, and is willing to give the one who fixes it all his SP points.
Tutorials
Have you been having trouble with your game's score? If so, you may wish to read MetalRenard's How to on Loopable Music, a short tutorial. It includes a sample piece he crafted with the words of wisdom he provided. And there was a slight bump given so yamina-chan, who asked for such assistance in the What's Up RMers thread, would see the topic which she found qhite helpful.
And Cidiomar found a link to an unofficial RGSS3 Reference Documentation that users may find to be more complete than the original that came with RPGMaker VXAce. And both feedback and suggestions are welcomed.
Material Development
Scripts Database
buddyseivers showed up with a Job Stat Modifier for RPGMaker XP this week. Like the system in Final Fantasy XI - Online, you can now have class specific actor stats that increase or decrease when your class changes.
PK8 crafted a system to let game designers create Graphically Layered Maps, whereby the may be able to have something closer to parallax mapping without the need of an external image editor. He even returned and bumped it to version 1.0.1 after fixing a bug that occurs if you call a particular picture multiple times but change the hue in one of them, affecting every other pic with the same filename.
And later, PK8 bumped his Self Data Suite after Bravo2Kilo of RPGMakerWeb found a couple of bugs as data for the party didn't go as planned and he forgot to change the extension of certain files.
Script Requests
It has been a good time for buddyseivers as his requests to get the Environment Path for his save games and the addition of Custom Parameters worked out. In addition, he even found a new encryption system to battle RGSS Decryption though it was solved elsewhere. Meanwhile, buddyseivers acknowledges that he will need to use events to create the [Living Citizens[/Highlight] in his game.
And DaVoice showed up asking for a way to generate Random Extra Actor Names for RPGMaker XP, taking them from a cache of stored first and last names stored within the script. This way, an NPC could have a randomly chosen first name and randomly chosen last when the name is generated, much like the way old Freelancer games had when a bounty name was generated each time.
Resource Requests
Taylor managed to craft all the PCs for is game sprited except one, Small Green Dragon named Arin. Taylor posted a sample of how his sprite graphics are layed out, using a single stripe rather than an RPGMaker XP 4x4 or RPGMaker VX(Ace) 4X3 image, and would like to see if anyone could take the picture of Arin he supplied and convert it into a sprite in the Romancing Saga 3 style.
Meanwhile, DerVVulfman bumped his thread requesting Curly hair for half kaiser sprites, realizing curly hair isn't something easy to craft.

Personal standpoint...
"I believe in giving people options, not 'forcing' only one script or system upon everyone. Adaption is key, not specialization. Overspecialize, and you breed in weakness."
