(May 28 to June 3, 2012)

Welcome dear readers to the latest issue of the Weekly Gazette! Here in the Gazette, we give you the news in brief of what occurred in the past week as well as provide any news happening in Save-Point itself

Announcements and Updates
For those of you who think Reading is Fundamental, Save-Point just opened the Literature forum within our Creativity Section. So if you were looking for something to read or contribute to our library, you need not have to post it within the Art and Design forum. The addition of the new forum gained support from Hybrida, MetalRenard and yamina-chan, who all wish to share their work. Hybrida said he was glad to see where he can post walls of texts in the future. And MetalRenard was curious whether the forum was public, or a private forum where such works can only be viewed by members and allowed them to still publish their work for financial gain later. Olivia replied back that she intended for a more 'blog-like' feature for literature, but added the literature section as the blog section may be a long time coming. And DerVVulfman replied back that there was a member-only subforum made specifically for people to post their own works. That part pleased MetalRenard. DerVVulfman returned for a moment to point out that the private forum couldn't be viewed by banned members, not just guests, and that members must be active and contributing members of the community.

Occasions
This week, we had the pleasure to celebrate the dual birthdays of cesarperry and Sheba H.H., followed by Saito S.'s birthday soon after.

General Chat
We get to learn a little each week about our members when they talk about What's on their Mind, as KasperKalamity revealed his distain for Gin. He's not even keen on Corona, but would prefer it versus Gin any day. Taylor just finished watching the first season of Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni Kai, and prefers to wait for an official release of the second season to that of a fansub copy. And yamina-chan wondered if she's just had bad luck encountering rude players on Yu-Gi-Oh online. The only people she's encountered recently either cut out of a game halfway through a game they're losing, or just quit. She's had more fun playing againt the computer. MetalRenard found out that just days before Curse Network, a competitor to the Machinima network, was kicked out of Youtube, Google invested $30 Million into Machinima. He's saddened because of Machinima's reputation towards people while their competition offered a much fairer system. A small typo that MetalRenard had in his initial post (as Mashinima ) confused Taylor for a moment, as does why companies need to buy out others only to run them into the ground. MetalRenard returned to correct his typos and mentioned that Machinima was in a slump both financially and with their reputation. And in responce to Taylor's question, KasperKalamity brought up how tech companies buy each other out so they can, not only get a foothold on properties they don't already have, but stake a claim into all avenues of their interest. As an example, he cited a scenario of Google buying out all the major imagehosting cites to force the users to agree to their terms. Later, KasperKalamity discovered he needed to examine his homelife after returning home to find his place a shambles with dog vomit, cat urine, and trash everywhere. When there were only his three cats to deal with, he had no difficulties. But after returning from a roadtrip, he found his girlfriend either abandoned the house all that time or wouldn't take care of anything, including taking out the trash. MetalRenard read it and surmised that KasperKalamity's girlfriend was depressed, and figures a sit-down would be a good idea. And if anyone heard about the man who 'ate' the face off another man in Miami, Florida, Hybrida found an article in the Huffington Post about the rise of inhuman incidents recently and is gearing up for the Zombie Apocalypse.

Games Development
Development Discussion
If you want to catch up with what your fellow game makers here are doing, you may want to ask them [What's up in their RPGMaking[/Highlight]. Taylor has been getting frustrated over adding BigNum values to Graphics.frame_count values for his custom ABS system. yamina-chan was looking for a way to make each of her battlers die with various and individual dispose colors, but has been encountering some difficulty. DerVVulfman wondered and sought out a script by PK8 that modified the dispose system, but PK8 said his script would affect all the battlers, rather than make individual disposes for each. Taylor thought there may be a way, and suggested a method of modifying the collapse method to handle it, and DerVVulfman suggested that PK8 might have fun making a new script out of it. yamina-chan returned once more and thanked DerVVulfman, PK8 and Taylor for the suggestions about changing the collapse system for individual deaths, but said she's not experienced enough to make the changes herself. Meanwhile, DerVVulfman has also been tinkering even more on his crafting demo, adding some muic and getting down to writing the instructions for his script. He later returned and mentioned adding more music and enhancing his crafting script with crafted items possibly giving leftover byproducts. Taylor returned wondering why projectile events he made using SephirothSpawn's Event Spawner would be causing lag. He admits he's not much of a scripter, but has discovered some issues here and there with his system in progress. DerVVulfman suggested a route taken by MrMo who didn't use events, but rather just tracked a projectile's path and draw a sprite rather than an event. Taylor returned and wondered if it was in fact events made by SephirothSpawn's system, even after they were deleted from the map. But DerVVulfman countered that the deleted events shouldn't be causing lag, though having too many events on a single map could cause problems, and suggested an anti-lag script. yamina-chan ran aground with her boat as her vehicle script won't let boats cross map borders while her walking characters can when using a map wrap/loop script. Taylor thought the issue was with teleport events, but yamina-chan clarified it for him and mentioned that she had vehicles cross map borders before. DerVVulfman seemed to be excited about having battlers for his crafting demo, and hugged the person who supplied them. It must have been a day for him, because he also got the curly hair art for his half-kaiser characterset he's wanted. Kain Nobel spent a couple hours using RPGMaker VXAce's trial package and started crafting some alternate tiles, though he only realized he saved his animated grass tileset into his animated water set. For kicks, he posted a gif of his grass tileset so you can see his grass set's animation. Meanwhile, Kain Nobel said he hates the graphics (especially the face maker system), and hopes to be able to taylor something better within 30 days... even if he doesn't buy the package. On seeing the animated grass tiles, Taylor said that the grass should be used sparingly, mixed with some matching non-animated grass. And KasperKalamity agreed, pointing out his issues with the tile. MetalRenard reported in that he's reached the 'End of Module Assessment'. And DerVVulfman said he knows what MGC's experiencing with the current series of HMode7 requests, seeing that he went through it. Returning again about his game's coding issues was Taylor who figured out and solved his issue with attack animations as he learned they conflicted with event-based work he kept hidden to avoid possible coding theft. Still, a new problem cropped up where the order of frames in an animation isn't running as smoothly as expected. Meanwhile, Kain Nobel worked on better graphics for RPGMaker VXAce while he's on the 2nd day of the trial. And he figures his new material is a huge improvement to the system's Run Time Package. But he is taking notes of what EnterBraind managed to do correctly. He's going to give it a full 30 day run to see if it's worth buying or not. Meanwhile, KasperKalamity just had his game transferred to his new laptop so he can do some light work while he's away on business and had started adding some touches to his Villageburg map. On returning, he noticed some empty map areas that he brought to life by moving some things around to make it look better. At least, that was the opinion Ace had after seeing KasperKalamity's latest screenshot. Kain Nobel has been kicking himself feeling that he hasn't gotten far on his main project because of vacation time and some breaks, and he really wants to work on it. And Taylor realized one night that he worked on some spriting until 2 o'clock AM and needed to get to sleep.

A new topic came way of KasperKalamity who asked members to post thier Game Ideas, whether thoughts or plans for games they want to make or just random thoughts they'd think would be neat. He started off talking about a platformer he'd like to make with Stencyl that he'd call "Hoarder Twins in Treasure Island", where you collect as many coins and points so you can buy and hoard things. DerVVulfman came up with an RPG thriller involving a cop framed for treason and the daughter of the man who set up the cop to take the fall. He said it was a crime thriller comedy based on characters that he and a friend of his made years ago. MetalRenard's thoughts involved taking Armali's Day-Z mod and hooking it into Skyrim to make the combat better. And KasperKalamity returned to talk about 'The Adventures of SuperBarf' who, by the powers of regurgitation, can fly and hit targets at great distances. And there would be edible powerups that could help the hero in changing the way his vomit operates.

General Support
While working with SephirothSpawn's Event Spawner, Taylor encountered some Lag from Erased or Deleted events, recognizing that the fault lay not with SephirothSpawn's script but with RPGMaker XP or its scripts. The problem lay after several attacks occur with the ABS he's working on, and parallel processes seem to continue running and causing his lag even after the events are deleted. He learned that he could avoid some lag after moving events to a single point in the map where only the lag exists, but it's still an issue. He even created almost thirty identical events not related to the script and used Parallel Processes, deleting the events and the issue still remained. DerVVulfman wondered if the Parallel Processes that Taylor mentioned were running from the actual events being deleted or were running from the common events. Kasper said he suffered some lag problem while working on a battle animation on a dummy event and dealt with other movement options, and wondered if other processes may be operating in the background he wasn't aware. Taylor recognized that the events deleted caused no lag in a fresh project, and he replied to KasperKalamity as he wondered if it had to do with the scripts or if the Graphics were software based. Meahwhile, Taylor discovered his issue and added a combination of self.enemy and self.erased conditionals to his code.

Meanwhile, Narzer is experiencing a connection problem using RMX-OS 1.18. He already has WampServer installed and online and knows his MySQL connection and server is working. But cannot resolve an issue between the client and server wnd would appreciate any assistance.

RGSS Support
Posting the code he's been working that would make a player Turn into a facing direction without moving this week was Taylor. He has a question about it as he experienced too long a pause after turning that would let the character move forward and wondered if a better method existed. PK8 saw the code and crafted s smaller code and recommended a delay range for adjustment.

Taylor also had issues getting some Character animation to auto-play, even after changing the character's graphic file to another characterset. He supplied his code and the animation worked in general. But while the animation made the character perform and move, the character on the map didn't change to use the graphic he desired.

Material Development
Scripts Database
PK8 graced the forum with his new Custom Movement system for RPGMaker XP, RPGMaker VX and RPGMaker VXAce. It lets the game developer customize the player's movements, but may involve some scripting knowledge, but he supplied some additional info in the script itself.

And just added into the system, PK8 replicated VX's Dash System for RPGMaker XP, so game developers can add dash movements into their XP projects.

And for those using both RPGMaker VX and RPGMaker VXAce, you can now use Dash-Enabling Equipment, so players need to equip certain forms of gear so they can move quickly on the map.

Lastly, DerVVulfman added a fix to Melly Mel's Calendar System that affected games being loaded while the game is still being created. However, he said the problem didn't affect completed games.

Script Requests
As an RPGMaker XP user, buddyseivers wondered if anyone could help him with his VX Window Conversion request he put in last week. He's hoping someone would come in to help convert the VX Menu script he found to work for RPGMaker XP.

Apparently following that trend, Taylor spent some time working on his Small Green Pet named Arin. He spent an entire day to work on it, and the work impressed Kain Nobel who wanted to see it in action and made an animated gif of the character. Taylor brought up that he didn't achieve the animal running animation, and thinks the right leg needs a little more motion.

Resource Requests
DerVVulfman closed his request for Half Kaiser Curly Hair after saying he has the graphics needed and the issue resolved.

Well, that's it for this week.

Personal standpoint...
