(July 23 to July 29, 2012)
Welcome dear readers to the latest issue of the Weekly Gazette! Here in the Gazette, we give you the news in brief of what occurred in the past week as well as provide any news happening in Save-Point itself
General Chat
As any fellowship thrives and grows, new members always find their way wishing to become a member of the community. Not wishing to be left in the dark about who their associates are, they may wish to find out just What's on their mind. Perhaps it was to Samven's description of a new RPG he was playing last week or that it was by the author of various Final Fantasy games, but KasperKalamity's started off the thread this week with one lone word: 'mock'. xnadvance felt he's being overwhelmed by the game he's working on. Samven was under the opinion that he talked too much, but xnadvance felt he should probably join the IRC chatroom. Unfortunately, every time Samven entered, he found no one there due to timezone differences. MetalRenard replied when he felt the chatroom to be the most active and Olivia posted a sample of how people just enter and leave the IRC as she keeps her mIrc docked quite often. For Samven, the most active time seems to be when he's asleep and xnadvance admited that he's likely one of the guys who just pops in and exits when no one's online. On a sideline note, KasperKalamity deep down felt like he'd end up in agriculture. After looking at the battlesystem DaVoice chose to use for his game, xnadvance decided that people should always be able to see their game's heroes in battle and posted a battlesystem screenshot from Phantasy Star IV. KasperKalamity was surprised to see the use of the TriBlaster combo in the shot. Youtube has been a real pick-me-up for MetalRenard who shouted 'MONEY!' while xnadvance responded by merely uttering 'nothing'. And insofar as MetalRenard's musical endeavors, he thanked yamina-chan once again for her work and added a note to his site that stated how his work is original and not some cookie-cutter product. On the other side, Ace had a let down as his motherboard recently died after he worked on his system Bios. Kain Nobel admitted that when it comes to games, he's been stuck in a game developer mentality. Every time he wanted to play one, his mind starts analyzing it or forces him to return to his own project, and he wanted to apologize to anyone who sent him a game for feedback. During this time, his girlfriend has been in the hospital for roughly a week with a swollen liver and symptoms they didn't understand. That is until they understood what it was. The doctors diagnosed that Kain Nobel's girlfriend has liver disease, but since it was caught early on it is said to be manageable and she is looking well and appears to be in high spirits. While awaiting for her to return home, Kain Nobel and the kids have been keeping the place spotless for her return. And Kain Nobel thanks DaVoice for his support and sharing his own personal experiences. Looking at the events that shaped his life, DaVoice recalled his blessings and the challenges that he and his wife had overcome to make their marriage wonderful. And Samven praised Kain Nobel for his steadfastness for his girlfriend, and whilst happy to know it was caught early he is saddened that she has it in the first place.
Forum Games & Nonsense
Still quite popular is the This or That Game created by Samven, as he, MiguHideki, xnadvance, Pherione, MetalRenard and DerVVulfman keep it going page after page.
MetalRenard was wondering if anyone apart from Team Awesome was going to take part in the Epic Trans-forum Game Making Contest of Dooom! Samven said he's offer to clone himself, insinuating that he'd stay in the contest regardless. And in a similar vein, KasperKalamity said he'd be willing to go toe-to-toe by himself as he's to sexy for a team. So, a rivalry for 2012 may have started as MetalRenard announced that Save-Point will have Team Awesome go against Team Sexy. With that established, KasperKalamity wondered when he would be PMed the rules of the contest. After that, MetalRenard posted him what to do insofar as getting the rules and contest criteria.
Development Discussion
If you want to keep up with the game-making happenings of the forum, you may wish to ask What's up with your fellow RPG Game Makers like so many others have done. Kain Nobel is on a mission and has worked hard this past week as he composed a sombre piece of music called 'With Great Regret', posted various game concepts he intends to use such as a military salary system, an online shop system and a series of shipment delivery sidequests, and crafted three new character profiles for his game, two members of a private security company named Alexis and Martinez and Lindsey, a member of a top secret government project who was reported burned to death in her condo, but may still be alive and selling secrets. Thinking about upgrading his demo in segments, Samven is preparing to work on the next demo of Deceit x Justice. He's expecting four new dungeons and a couple more new party members along with all the noted bugs fixed. Meanwhile, xnadvance is just working on character attributes for his game. Reading last week's replies, DaVoice mentioned he has also been working on a game using MGC's HMode7 system, fixing some snags he's encountered along the way. Spending a great deal of time, he's been texture blocking a series of buildings, 50's era steel trailers, and more. Worried about undue lag, he's handling the larger buildings first before dealing with non-essentials he may have to trim down later. DerVVulfman seems to be making headway with his attempt to make an ABS system to work with MGC's HMode7 system, announcing he finally achieved success with a party follow and control system. He said it was easy to have actors that were already in the party to show when the game started, but had problems adding new members that weren't rendered or changing who the lead actor was without it messing up wherre each actor was on the screen. With it all fixed, DerVVulfman made mention he tested the ABS system so it could work with and without MGC's script. It wasn't long after that DaVoice decided to take a day or two off from making texture blocks for the HMode7 system, and switch over to redesigning his moghunter menus. Always a workhorse, Kain Nobel spent over a 24 hours on various jobs for his project. His game contains a fair number of animated actor battlers, but not so much for enemies. And though his game is set for a modern environment he sprited a two-headed dragon. After that, Kain Nobel set off to download the most recent copy of Animated Battlers using a system by Trickster as he also wants to use Trickster's Custom Battlestatus Window as he finds it easier to identify which battler is active and available. However, Kain Nobel gets too involved with complex scripts and gets consumed in their details. He also worked out finer details of custom sounds for his system, checking them over to make sure they don't clash with each other, and later realized he needed to work on more weapon-based battler templates. But before that, he started working on a script that changed the element ratings formulas for his game but allowed for some customization so you can have armor reduce or increase element damage certain ways, as well as it affecting damage traits from skills, weapons or the like. It's been a while since he did any scripting as he's been more graphically minded recently, but he spent a couple days working on the script, and found some time to work more on the character in his game that was 'assumed' to have died from a fire at her condo. DaVoice's jaw dropped after seeing the character of Lindsay from Kain Nobel's game as his avatar and gave him praise. Meanwhile, xnadvance had been working on his project's testbed and found that that the map zoom in MGC's HMode was giving him an error. And regarding MGC's HMode, DerVVulfman brought up that he was working on a patch that made it and Ccoa's UMS (Ultimate Message System) compatible, saying the error was that they shared a constant variable rather than a conflict with screen position that MGC thought. Samven found out what caused his game's problem with healing on the menu. Unfortunately, it was the conditional skills script he was using, forcing him to use events in its place. And messing with HMode7 once more, DerVVulfman said he started to have working missiles in his ABS, describing how it travels across the screen and some issues regarding it.
While looking into map packs for game making softwares, DaVoice considered the usefulness of Resources for H-Mode 7. By having readymade PokeMon, Medieval or Steampunk styled HMode7 packs, one could assemble their own sets and build their own custom tilesets as some of the work is already done. He mentioned how he'd design his tilesets, how the texture files would be named, and so forth and is curious if anyone is interested in the idea.
Upcoming Projects
Newly retitled, G.I. Toez's game, Stuffed Apocalypse, now sports its first demo. Originally conceived under the name Zombified Stuffed Toy shooter, Stuffed Apocalypse and G.I. Toez stays true to course in this comically cute survival horror shooter made with HTML5. Playing as Ted, the teddy bear, you witness a recent shipment of zombie toys coming to life and attack all the other toys, changing them into zombified versions of themselves. How can a lone teddy bear survive against an onslaught of Zombie Stuffed Toys, Evil Jack-in-the-boxes? That nerf gun may come in handy.
Still working dilligently on Apotheosis 379, DaVoice now plans to do some spriting for his game, having his graphics capable of 8 directional movement and using 8 frames of animation for each step. He is also wonders whether he should use sprites for stationary objects like schoolbuses and oil tanks, or if he should use HMode7 modeling.
General Support
MiguHideki bumped his inquiry into Cutscenes and how go have his player take a quest from an NPC.after a few days passed. Olivia responded with an example garnered from a quest she worked on herself. MiguHideki replied with big thankful hugs to Olivia.
RGSS Support
NewHope was wondering if it were Possible to make the battlers run or move off the screen when escaping when you're in battle, since the default system merely makes the battlesystem screen fade to the field map. Even with Minkoff's Animated Battlers Advanced, by both Minkoff and DerVVulfman, he says the actors just stand there rather than run away before the battlescreen fades away. DaVoice suggested an edit to line 114 of the second default battlesystem script and create a loop for each battler, NewHope considered the idea, but had questions about how to edit and change the battler sprite positions. DaVoice thought it could be possible to add a new layer and make bitmaps of the characters fleeing and do some editing, but both DaVoice and NewHope admitted they're not much on scripting. Taylor showed up and found a portion of the setmove method that the system uses to make the characters move and animate, and posted some code. With that snippet of the setmove method supplied by Taylor, NewHope was able to figure out how to make his characters run and escape, solving his problem. The code NewHope showed off that solved his issue surprised Taylor, but NewHope reiterated that the problem had been solved.
Scripts Database
Victor Sant returned once again to add more RPGMaker VXAce scripts for his Victor Engine. This week, he added the new Free Jump system so your character can jump when a key is pressed. And while jumping, he will not trigger events or take terrain-based damage.
But if you want more than just jumping, you will be pleased to find that Victor Sant worked on a Moving Platform system, letting you create a new mechanic for the map environment, The player can run across these platforms and fall through tiles that have been tagged as 'voided' tiles.
For those wishing to use a custom debug system for their RPGMaker VXAce battles, they may wish to consider the Debug Battle Add-On that Helladen has posted. It is based in part of from the YEA - Battle Engine by Yanfly, a system that Helladen enjoys. You can read about the debug system's controls within the scripts comment section, and a link to Yanfly's terms of use are available in the post.
Another extract from Yanfly's YEA system is the Skip Party Command Window that Helladen posted. No longer do you need to have the battlesystem repeatedly show the FIGHT / RUN option with every turn since you would likely remain in combat anyway. And again, he left a link to Yanfly's terms of use in his post.
Script Requests
A couple weeks ago, DerVVulfman supplied a few links to script that he felt could be useful when KDC asked for anything that could help him with his Outfits Menu. Since then, KDC decided to use the Visual Equipment script provided as he felt it would be easier than using an evented system.

For anyone keen on MGC's HMode7 system and was overwhelmed by how to draw specific tiles where they want, , DaVoice has released in PSD format, some Tile Counter Layer for Tilesets for H-Mode7. A Template of sorts, it lets the end user be able to texture build their maps with accuracy and create walls and borders where no two tiles are alike. He later added a copy of the template for non Photoshop users.
Music
MetalRenard had a big update for his "MetalRenard's Music" thread. He couldn't sleep so instead he uploaded some music to Bandcamp and then shared links to all his latest videos.
Well, that's it for this week.

Personal standpoint...
"I believe in giving people options, not 'forcing' only one script or system upon everyone. Adaption is key, not specialization. Overspecialize, and you breed in weakness."
