Soul Crystal
 
A short RPG
 
 
 
Introduction
 
Soul crystal is a 3-4 hour game, the result of on and off work over nearly 2 months. The game is quite linear, and has the basic VXAce battle system, which I refined the best I could. This is the first project in any rpg maker I've ever completed, and was a lot of hard work and an incredible learning experience. Please, give it a try and give feedback.
 
 
Characters

Zephial: The main character, that the story follows. He seems like an idealistic young knight, but at the start of the game, you see a glimpse of his future, what he will become. But what happens to cause it?

Edwin: Zephial's Knight-Captain. In the opening cutscene, is seen talking to a much changed Zephial in the future, before being slain by Zephial's blade.

Eris: A scout and assassin working under Edwin's command. Seems to have ulterior motives for working with the Knights.

Solaris: An enigmatic Elf, last of his kind. Can work magic, even manipulate souls, an ancient, forbidden art. All Elves were purged by the church far in the past, the result of a great war.

Everything in the game is either default resources, or what I made myself.
However, I used a single script, Control Escape Rate by DiamondandPlatinum3.
 
And thank you to all my testers. None of you belong to this community, but I couldn't have done it without you. Without encouragement, I would have probably dropped this project.
 
 
Developer's Notes
 
I've had a lot of experience messing around with various trials of different versions of rpg maker in the past. However, while I learned a good deal about the programs, I never really made anything. I would hop from idea to idea, putting no effort or detail into them, and never complete anything.
 
I didn't know this time would be different, I just felt the need to try out VXAce and see what it's like. I made some character faces, not really knowing what I was going for, and started making a dungeon that would become chapter 1. Going through the game, and looking back on chapter 1, even an outside observer can see that I didn't even know what I wanted to do yet. It's quite a bland dungeon, with characters haphazardly introduced.
 
However, as I messed around more, the game started blooming into something better. I tweaked, improved, and balanced, and got testers. The increase in quality is notable as you play through, in mapping, combat, some custom skill animations, and at the very end of the game, writing. I've always been decent at some of these skills, but making a full game does wonders to refine them.
 
Please give the game a try. It's rather short, and a huge accomplishment for me. I could really use feedback and comments so I can look back on this game and what people think of it, and go on to create even better games.
