Strange Neologisms
Strange New Terms
Who doesn't know about the Brexit or Britain's Exit from the European Union? Even if it included Northern Ireland as well. 
According to the BBC, that was not the only term their coined in the past 5 years or so.
By the way, they say its origin might be another neologism, namely the Grexit or Greece's Exit, something that hasn't happened as of yet.
Brexit has given rise to possibilities like:
Brexiteers - Brexit supporters
Califexit - which could be the title of a Red Hot Chili Peppers album, and defines California leaving the US
Fixit - which sounds like a plumber’s tool, but refers to the possibility of Finland leaving the EU
Mexit - for the retirement of footballer Lionel Messi
Trexit - if a US resident decides to leave the country due to Donald Trump
Backstop - Until late 2017, web search results for ‘backstop’ were dominated by sports fans or finance experts. It’s since become synonymous with the open border between Ireland and Northern Ireland – a sticking point in the Brexit negotiations.
It also briefly mentions the Watergate scandal's influence by coining new terms like Monicagate (American only?), Piggate (British only), but they curiously ignored the Dieselgate (can't say it's German only right?
