RE: What's up, RMers? - Steel Beast 6Beets - 10-23-2026 Man, Mack and Blue chipsets were truly the backbone of the map-making community back then. Honestly, I prefer this kind of graphic style compared to what the modern makers (RMXP and onwards) offer. It's what inspired me to create a postgame dungeon in my game using resources (tilesets, charsets monsters, etc) from the RM2K/2K3 era. RE: What's up, RMers? - Ace_V - 10-23-2026 Sometimes I wish I had known about those world map tiles. I always end up making my own and they take a long time to plan out and make. However, while it's not as cool as those, I'm pretty happy with how this one turned out. (Disregard the small-but-still-too-large-treasure chests )
RE: What's up, RMers? - DerVVulfman - 10-23-2026 I think you guys need to take another look at the site that I linked where it says CLICKIE. REFMAP also has VX tilesets and some MV content. Now VX is traditionally blocky and the animation system operates on a 3-frame pattern(2-1-2-3) rather than a 4-frame pattern(1-2-3-4), the textures of the grasslands, the brickwork and like is still 32px based and could be adapted. Their terms are that everything is usable, just give em credit. ![]() RE: What's up, RMers? - Steel Beast 6Beets - 10-23-2026 Let me quote your previous post so it's on this page along with the CLICKIE link. They often chose a dark teal color for their transparent background rather than the bright peach pink, using pink only three times throughout their sets. And yes, you're right. While I'm not an overt fan of the VX look, I reckon I could use some of those tilesets as soon as I find a VX to XP tileset converter (I've already got one for charsets). Also, kind of curious as to why RefMap seemed to have skipped developing for XP. But again, the comparisons make me realize that when it comes to graphic style, VX is closer to RM2K than XP as far as I can see. RE: What's up, RMers? - DerVVulfman - 10-24-2026 Well, today I translated from Japanese...
Sadly, one of the scripts in this collective had vanished. Not pixel-movement per-say, but partial tile movement, whereby you moved like 8px at a time rather than a whole 32px tile, and with much smoother animation from all descriptions. It was something I was thinking of, but never got around. And dangit, SOMEONE must have it! Tomorrow? Something I am dreading. Not because of what it is, but what it entails. Multiple thousand-line sets of scripts for weapons. It has OOF-springs! Here's hoping it doesn't have element tagging. MACK (Makoto Miyauchi), one of the main artists of RefMap created all tilesets and character sets of RMXP. That's why the RMXP tilesets have alot of similarities to the old RefMap tilesets. Wow... Well, today I learned. Pretty amusing that Enterbrain went "Hire this man" and I don't blame them. Oh this is neat! RMXP has my favorite tileset and characters. RE: What's up, RMers? - DerVVulfman - 10-27-2026 Ugh. Okay, the next script SET I was working on seems to have some very odd... unexpected... and BORKED outcomes. By itself, it is actually applying elements to weapons when first equipped or encountered. I should say if you get a bronze sword for the first time, it may have a FIRE element assigned. Buy one in a shop, it might say THUNDER is applied. WHAT??? The script, working in tandem with an upgrade addon, is supposed to let you PAY for upgrades. But I think they borked this set of scripts badly. (I'll get back to it later...) EDIT: Okay, the next three (yes, three) were easier. And one had tagging involved. I hate it when it comes to translating Japanese text into English and it is Element tagging.... but cest la vie. |
