If you're sure it's just the HDD dying, consider buying a cheap replacement and copy stuff across. At least you won't lose data. HDDs are dirt cheap now and you can get a good one for very little money.

Yeah, I keep bringing up External HDDs....

On my mind? The Estate.

I filed paperwork nearly a month ago to acquire 'Letters of Administration' for my Dad's Estate since I held his Last Will and Testament where it said... well... Yeah, I'm the beneficiary. Now part of the duties of administration it to provide proof that a newspaper published a public notice of my appointment as the administrator, and was told the deadline was 20 days. Hell, the courthouse gave me three choices where to publish, the costliest only $30 bucks. Well, I never scrimp.

Well, I never received notice in any online listing for weeks, since part of the courthouse fees was supposed to be the $30 fee. But I found no trace of it. So I called the paper to see if I could place the notice myself. They informed me that this is solely handled by the courthouse and they hadn't given them the notice to publish. So I called the courthouse, and 'Lisa' told me that they are behind. When I told her that the 20 day deadline was coming up, she told me not to worry because of the delay. Erm, that deadline was this Monday.

So I called the newspaper again today (their publications weekly on Thursdays), and they recognized who I was. In fact, the receptionist asked me by MY name. I was told they haven't picked it up YET, and that maybe FRIDAY they'll receive the information. Woof... this was the pricier and more established paper.... what if I chose a cheap one?

*sigh* That's Maryland and this county for you.

Gonna need money, and my dad's copy of Windows 10, and the product key that came with it. Since I want to make sure that the OS stays the same as I had started using it. Either that, or just find and use the two Hard drives from my, now without case, PC, again with the use of my dad's copy of Windows 10 and product key. Though what's funny about this Hard drive right now is that I could not defrag it until I pull a Scan and Repair at times. After all that's done, I was able to. Right now it's acting normal for now.

Hope you get those letters soon.

Oh, I have the letters of administration. Have those for a while. But I need to confirm with the county the appointment via official newspaper publication before I can proceed any further.

Stupid Bureaucracy: I have to supply to the County Government a newspaper article showing that I was appointed as Executor of the Estate. Yet the newspaper cannot publish it because the County is behind in its paperwork.

That sounds pretty much like an "albacea" here in Costa Rica, except judges pick them here... Laughing

I got an idea on how to continue writing a new chapter of a story of mine, but got blocked by the vocabulary needed to make it sound convincing and realistic enough for the four alley cats that read it. Sad Even if I'm not popular, I shouldn't let readers think I don't know how to handle complex situations. Happy with a sweat

Huge typhoon on the way here, should be hitting tomorrow! It's 1000km wide, bigger than the one that damaged Osaka airport last year.
Good news is that the place I work has decided to shut tomorrow because of it... Early weekend! WOOP WOOP!

RE: What's on your mind? - DerVVulfman - 10-12-2019

Well, I finally got some good news on my Newspaper front. I got a call and the Post has the article to post from the Courthouse. Oookay, it's Friday and they print it weekly on Thursdays, so I have basically another week to kill. But it's there no-less. AND thankfully, it's dated so the Courthouse can't ask 'what took ME so long'. Not that I didn't talk to LISA AT THE COURTHOUSE.... Yep, got records.

Meanwhile, I had no idea how to contact the people sending Pension Checks to my dad until now. No... I didn't cash any. And that works out fine, because my operative phrase was "I had no idea...". I just received a condolences letter with the Pension Fund's phone number. Hey, I had to. I'd be liable as Administrator to pay back the checks (had I cashed them) sent after my dad died. So, talking to them, I found all I had to do was send a birth certificate for confirmation, the two uncashed checks and....... they're sending me a form because I'm a beneficiary ??? I didn't see that coming.

Okay, SOOOOOO, apparently Sherlock Holmes is public domain!
However, if you use certain details about Sherlock Holmes stories from the ones written AFTER 1923, you're in for a bad time. Ya see, the last 10 short stories are subject to copyright still until 2022. So if you wanted to make a Sherlock Holmes game, go for it! Just... don't talk about second wives, or you can get sued.... or at least in the US you can  Confused

THE ENTIRE SHERLOCK HOLMES CANON IS PUBLIC DOMAIN IN BRITAIN ALREADY! HAS BEEN SINCE 2000! So if you're in Britain, you're probably alright to do what you want. Heck, make Sherlock an alien from outer space and Watson an imaginary bagel that Sherlock occasionally talks to in your stuff. You can do it.  Tongue sticking out

People on the pcsx2 site (Emulator site for PS2 games) keep asking for help.
Now, keep in mind: The site doesn't support piracy. They have strict rules against it, and even refuse service if they know you're a pirate. They don't even provide a PS2 BIOS, and you have to rip your own. SOOO, people ask for help on their forums, and a staff member immediately asks for "emu logs". Why? Because they can figure out your issue! But what else can they see? The name of the file you're running. And stupid pirates being stupid pirates, they usually have the name of where they got it from, or "NTSC" or other telltale signs that THIS PERSON DOWNLOADED THIS FILE ILLEGALLY!!! SOMETIMES WITH THE SITE NAME IN THE FILE'S NAME!!!
They're swiftly refused service, the thread is closed, and the idiotic pirates did it all to themselves. Strangely enough, they never seem to learn, since basically daily, a new pirate is begging for help and swiftly shut down in the same day.

Can't fix stupid.  Tongue sticking out

It rains a lot here in Costa Rica, but the typhoon in Japan forced people to escape from it, no matter if they went upstairs to avoid getting drown. Rescuers had a hard time evacuating the victims before they could lose their lives there. Even so we got our own issues down here, like mountains that may collapse at any time causing killer landslides. Why? Because in Costa Rica it's unusual to find barriers that could protect drivers or bypassed in case that a rock or tons of dirt would happily offer their funerary services fore free... Confused Public policies also favor leaving the environment as intact as possible, this is specially through in Braulio Carrillo National Park where the dangerous Zurqui Tunnel is located. Sad
