RE: What's on your mind? - MetalRenard - 12-08-2019 Grrrr working on a song at the moment but one of my instruments keeps causing my software to crash. I'm saving regularly but it's still annoying when you have to reload 12 gigs of data into your RAM just to start working again. RE: What's on your mind? - Fenriswolf - 12-08-2019 On my mind today and most days. RE: What's on your mind? - MetalRenard - 12-10-2019 Part II: Still working on that song. Turns out my OP laptop is the issue, 16gb of RAM isn't enough, it seems. Kind of frustrating because it means I have to split it into 2 pieces - all the synths and guitar recordings in one, all the orchestral section in the other. The trick then, is to render the orchestral part and import just the audio back into the main project. Haven't had to do this for 9 years since I had a rubbish laptop (and I was a poor student). GAH! RE: What's on your mind? - kyonides - 12-12-2019 Quote:Today, pasta is generally cooked by boiling the dough. The first evidence of pasta being boiled comes from the Jerusalem Talmud. The Talmud includes a discussion on whether or not boiled dough should be considered unleavened bread under Jewish law. Pasta was likely boiled before the Talmud was written, but this is the first text reference to the cooking method. Who would there that pasta got famous so long ago? According to PBS it did and still is famous worldwide. They even suspect that Chinese breadfruit tree might have been its original ingredient of noodles. O_O RE: What's on your mind? - DerVVulfman - 12-13-2019 And you said they were ripping off Italian spaghetti! RE: What's on your mind? - Kain Nobel - 12-13-2019 I recently bought a PS1 to play FF8 again the old fashioned way. Originally, I tried emulation but that was a headache. The entire game was brand new 4 discs inside a jewel case; never been opened prior to 2019, always placed somewhere safe and out of the way. Regardless of being brand new discs, it seems the data isn't so easy to read; spots of the game don't always load so I have to reset and retrace my steps and hope I'm lucky in the next session. Not a huge deal, I'm on disc 2 and going strong aside from the game CD's hiccups. Old games have a limited shelf life and fragility. I wonder if the game is suffering from digital "bit rot" or something because there are no scratches (aside from the one I just made not even a second ago.) I hate touching, let alone handling, old black PS1 discs because their sensitive nature. Its one of those things where I feel need to be in a laboratory clean room wearing specialized gloves and a white chemical jumpsuit before I load it in the lid. In reality, I'm wiping grease from my eyelids and rubbing it onto the surface of the disc because there is a micro scratch. Hey, it works! Most emulators have annoying boost issues and graphical glitches, and most emulators focus on upscaling capabilities rather than accuracy. Though, the newer versions of Retroarch keep switching my controller to a non-analog one, and I have to keep manually switching it back. When it comes to the old PS1 console... yeah, I tried wearing gloves to keep the disc clean back in the day, but it didn't work very well even back then. I think it's just the console itself. PS2 sometimes had issues also, even with reading brand new memory cards properly. Whatever works for you, though Now, what's on MY mind?! TIME! It will not wait. No matter how hard you hold on, it escapes you. I wish I had more time to do things. RE: What's on your mind? - Kain Nobel - 12-14-2019 Sick and tired of seeing "an historic" being written out. I see it everyday. I don't even care why anybody would write that, I'm sticking to "a historic" to the very end. "An historic" doesn't even sound correct being spoken aloud. The word "historic" doesn't begin with a vowel as H is a consonant. "An apple", "a pear", "an electric eel", "a horse", etc. "It was a historic event to be passed down for generations." "It was an historic event to be passed down for generations." RE: What's on your mind? - NightOwl - 12-14-2019 From Scribe.Com: "Notice that we say an hour, not a hour. The choice of a or an is based upon the sound of the word, not the spelling. Hour sounds as if it starts with a vowel sound (ow); hence, we use an. Words of three or more syllables that start with h are treated differently by some speakers, though. (This may be because of the tendency of some regional accents to drop initial Hs.)" ... it depends upon preference, though that preference is waning depending upon the words and users. RE: What's on your mind? - KDC - 12-19-2019 I believe this is a con for using a 32-bit Linux Mint on the old laptop. I doesn't have enough RAM to run 64-Bit Linux, so... I kind of wish I had instructions to install that "Architecture" the 32-bit OS, so that I can actually use the Linux version of Discord. Hmmm... Looks like I might be going back to Windows on my old laptop after all. |
