Godfather Singer dies at 82 - DerVVulfman - 10-14-2009 Al Martino, who played the wedding singer of Johnny Fontane (based on Frank Sinatra) in 'The Godfather,' died Tuesday afternoon at his childhood home. He was 82. Starting in 1952, Martino was the chart-topping Italian-American crooner of ballads such as 'Here in My Heart,' 'Spanish Eyes,' 'Can't Help Falling in Love' and 'Volare.' He died at his childhood home in suburban Philadelphia. Publicist Sandy Friedman says Martino died Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2009, in Springfield, in Delaware County.
