Childhood ingame - RosyPosy - 06-02-2011

The games that set up our current opinions and likes are essential in our making and playing new games.
Without them our opinions might not be so focused, as a result making our critiques ad collections bloated.

So Maybe some screen caps of the games we grew up with to show what you value in Gaming.
or even video to hear music or other game elements that shaped your love of games.

---------------
[Image: 203611-thousand-arms-playstation-screens...t-boss.png] I like Innovative battle systems. It makes the game feel more unique to the cloud of games (jrpgs) tend to get into. The game above is my first Rpg

Its named Thousand arms by Atlus and Red company.
Its battle system Was one on one,the rest of the party could do spells or use items but couldnt attack.
It used turn based format but at the end of the wait time you pressed X and based on your time (and stats) youd be able to hit critically or hit in succession. The story and game elements of the entire game Is an infant version of Personas style of game play (as in it mixed dating sims and rpgs)
And the english dub was funny bad so I enjoyed it very much.

Some of you prolly know Im a fighter and not a role player at heart.
To me RPGs are #2 to fighting games. So it shouldnt surprise anyone that Soul Edge is part of my childhood game experience. What I liked about it was how the controls were perfect.I like games where the Basic controls of a game feels natural. Some games just dont seem to think about their controlls that hard and slap the basics on ya. Or even worse they try to put controls that are purposely hard to deal with to increase the difficulty.Note to all game makers- Shitty controlls doesnt make your game challenging it makes it suck. With Soul Edge And Its sequels SC2-3 and 4 The controls fit right in my hand and made the game enjoyable. In a fighting game control is key.Funky moves and cool characters wont save it if your controls have to high of a learning curve.

ROGUE Squadron!!

If fighters are #1 and Rpgs are #2 then Air Combat games are #3
Along with Ace combat and Star Fox any game that gives you the ability to reenact your favorite top gun Montage Is a win.But Starwars takes it to space and alien planets.so yeah Give me Starwars Air combats any day, and your likely to not see me for a good 4 months. My fav is rogue Squadron mianly cause it was a Nin 64 game and starwars 64 games rocked.I realy wished that some rogue squadron would get its way into Kotors dev team so I can have online domination of Space!
My main draw to this title is What Im doing in it. Flying and shooting shit down!
Give me sounds and speed! If the sound design is off itll make your title seem boring, this goes for music as well as effects. If shit be blowin up, let me hear it!
Rogue has the advantage of Industrial light and magic behind them, and lets face it You cannot Deny that a starwars sound effect beckons you to get all pumped!
LAZORS!!

setting the atmostphere is very important Dont get boring with set design
and thats where this game comes in.

Oddworld is a platformer, but its one that kicks the hell outa other titles.
(Im talking to you donkey kong country =-=)
Always something about these sets that really grab my attention.
I especially like the signs that say warning about random stuff. And if you never played this game
I think its awesome enough to Drudge it up on amazon of a torrent somewhere.
And its sequels sets where just as crazy badass.
Odd world indeed.and I love every inch of it.

-----------------
and thats what this thread is all about, tell us your childhood favs Screencaps and videos would be appreciated. And if you share torrents or links to the game pleas do so with respect, games should atleast be x-box 1 gen if torrents are given.(the reason is I only support the mass sharing of games when the dev team has had the game out for a long enough time to make the money they deserve. And X-box 1 gen is like 11 years ago or so.)

(Try to make your post like an essay ish thing.(use mine as an example of how it should read.)

RE: Childhood ingame - xnadvance - 06-02-2011

I played too many games which most of them were highly known so I searched out the lesser known video-games to bring your focus in to the world of my "childhood gaming" era.

ActRaiser
[Image: actraiser-japanese-cover.jpg]
This one combined a bit of platformer hack and slash action with some primitive "sim city-like" build a city mode against demons and monsters trying to take back their world of chaos and evil.

"The Master" is you and he is accompanied by an angel who acts as your messenger to the mortals who praise your name after you have regained control of cities engulfed by darkness.
You incarnate into physical form which is a statue of a warrior wielding a sword and come to life where the stage begins.

At the end you will destroy the best of evils (some you have met before) at the final show down or it's back to the big sleep for order of this world you so long fought to maintain before.

E.V.O. Search for Eden
[Image: evosearchforedensupernintendojp.jpg]
The game is a kind of like the ancestor of Spore. Player is sent on a voyage through time by Gaia; the goddess of the planet.

You start off as a fish millions of years ago till the final times of the game where you evolve in many ways you choose to. You find out later on there are visitors who are helping speed up evolution and it's breeding lifeforms fighting for dominance over the dominion of this world.

You have different skills depending on the parts of the body you chose to improve or not. If you grow horns you can stab things to death or perhaps fly or become a mermaid.

Illusion of Gaia
[Image: images?q=tbn:ANd9GcQ4O0IAe_FUf60dZhA7LLi...kyNCLG&t=1]
You'll find yourself as a little shabby boy who goes to school, chills with his friends and can move boulders with his somewhat magical wand.

His father died while working to build the tower of babylon but that isn't the end of him in the boy's life...he and a few others in the story hint of a growing child and his predetermined course to save the world from extinction.

Adventures lead you to many ancient sites of the world with a few friends who go with you for the thrill of wanderlust and the experiences sometimes best fit for Indiana Jones or a mythical hero told to people thousands of years after you die. But who said you aren't in the process of being one?
