my Game Battle Questions! - JayRay - 08-03-2015

Alright, want to put it to you all

Now, I had previously set it up to have the ability to choose 1 of 80 different characters to play the game with, as part of the massive resource library I purchased from Pioneer Valley Games. While these have the base regular and iso character sets, they don't have Holder style battlesheets for animated battlers.

However, I also have the Main Party 1 and Main Party 2  character sheets too, that DO have the Holder Animation sheets as well as the regular and iso charsets

Also, all my monsters have the same animated charsets. I am using Yanfly Battle Engine and probably Galv's Animated Battlers.

My question is this....

Do I keep the 80 characters options and just use an RTP charset for them, abandoning the awesome looking animated battlers and go old school with my rendered charsets, or...

Do I instead change things to allow for more Main Party characters with a little bit of frankenspriting and try to expand the reportoir that I have as Main Party Characters? or...

Do I do neither, and default to the default front-vew battle system, allowing me to keep all 80 characters as face graphic battlers?

It's a bit strange to offer 80 looks and then force the player to have a different one in battles only, it will shock the player.

OKAY!

The Doctor Who Approach

While smoking a cigarette outside, I was still pndering how to get enough of a diversity of characters while still allowing for the vibrance of my character choices, and it hit me.

Doctor Who!

Some games allow for you to choose variations of a character. For instance, how many versions of Subzero were there in Mortal Kombat, How many variations of Ivy in Soul Caliber, how many versions of Jack were there in Tekken!

Now, while these are definitely fighting games, why can't there be variations of one of the main characters. Sure, you're choosing the big brawny swordswinger, but whos to say he's actually got black hair and a beard and not a blonde haired man? Who's to say that woman in the paladial armor isn't actually a half elf?

I think I'll work on a variations engine, which should allow me to have a certain amount of variations of each of the main characters, and the diversity I wanted.
