Some Short Detective or Medieval Related Topic - kyonides - 04-24-2016 This is just a couple of ideas based on my previous failed attempts to roleplay online. In a world were crime is abundant, it might also include supernatural aspects. It's far away from being finished or adequately developed but I can't really say it'll be "under construction" so I preferred to post it here and not in Literature section. I hope you can help me a bit by pointing out details or styles that look weak or just a complete non sense to you. The Situation I was thinking about some sort of story involving some early version of a detective, a request for help from your character to find clues, evidence, and possibly find the culprit or else get dragged by the flow of future events or cases that might change the future, without knowing if we were talking about the characters' or the world's depending on the investigation results. It's not necessary to focus on the details of the investigation. The Main Character's Profile Name: Brice Rockwell Nickname: Donut Age: late twenties Home: Any city in the 80s or 90s Occupation: Detective / Inspector He starts as a normal human, not sure if he ever gets any special abilities, that might depend on circumstances. Brown hair, gray eyes, 5'7'' (1.75m) tall Character Traits: He becomes a bit clumsy if he had no chance to drink coffee, he tells people he is a social drinker but it is not weird to find him at your local bar while not on duty. He dislikes donuts but would be glad to eat french fries at any time. And he sometimes listens to the Doors, he picks songs like The Alabama Song (The Whisky Bar): Oh, show me the way to the next whiskey bar / Oh, don't ask why / Oh, don't ask why / ... For if we don't find the next whiskey bar / I tell you we must die / I tell you we must die / I tell you, I tell you / I tell you we must die. Background Story: He moved to the city a couple of years ago to start working as cop first and later he got promoted to detective / inspector even if it took some serious effort to get the corresponding department to approve it. Actually it wasn't his fault, his was smart enough to deserve it, he got some real experience while patrolling the neighborhoods. The only downside was that he might have killed a violent protester in a manner that made some local news reporters call it another case of police abuse. Coworkers new that firing his gun once or twice more than it was needed didn't really make a difference, the victim was violent, out of control, he didn't listen to his instructions but the media always try to twist anything to make it look more scandalous that it actually was. Last week he kind of commemorated another anniversary of that weird tragedy. He was once married to some gorgeous woman, who actually was the daughter of some dangerous criminal. Later on he filed a divorce action and finally got rid of such a nasty and abusive relationship. He also has an exgirlfriend he dislikes a lot who every so often calls him to solve some of her issues with the local crime lords or some petty stolen goods. The Beginning? On a boring night detective Brice Rockwell was driving his car hitting the streets looking for other people's issues. He then stops his vehicle waiting for the light to turn green once again. He grew impatient so he turned on the radio, it might be against the rules but he had no partner not since he was promoted. It seems the station picked a very adequate song for that rainy night in the city by saying "I knew this DJ wouldn't let me down, The Doors is on the air as expected." [Riders on the storm, riders on the storm, into this house we're born, into this world we're thrown, like a dog without a bone, an actor out on loan, riders on the storm.] A very few passers with their umbrellas wide open crossed the street, he was ready to turn left being unsure about whether or not he actually wanted to pick fights in places where the street lamps don't help you a lot and all sorts of knives could make you bleed. He drove for a couple of minutes when he noticed some lonely bus stop in such a dangerous, bloody neighborhood, it seemed like the radio was strongly giving him some vital piece of advice just in case he might need it soon... [There's a killer on the road, his brain is squirming like a toad] Those verses couldn't scare a well prepared detective, he just laughed at them a bit. [Take a long holiday, let your children play.] At first glance such suggestions didn't make any sense to him. [If you give this man a ride, sweet memory will die, killer on the road, yeah] At this point he couldn't stop saying something in the brutally cold loneliness of his car: "Well, I can only see a young girl sitting on the bench, I don't think she could be some sort of murderer, not with such a bright gaze. She's mostly worried about getting her clothes and hair too damn wet". He thought about it just a little then parked the car and stopped the engine. Rockwell watched the girl for a few moments and grabbed his umbrella and opened it while getting out of the car. He told the girl about how inconvenient it was for her to stay there any longer: "You see, miss, I'm a cop and I couldn't ignore the fact that you're sitting there as if you were expecting a criminal to hurt you somehow; is there anything I can do for you?". Second Character's Profile Name: Nosgard "Ill Hunter" Woodbridge Age: Early Thirties Home: Any town or small city Occupation: Archer and Bounty Hunter or Special / Royal Guard He starts as a normal human, not sure if he ever gets any special abilities, that might depend on circumstances and who he meets later on. Brown hair, hazel eyes, 5'7'' (1.75m) tall Character Traits He is kind of rude to women, not that he truly disrespect them, it's just that he has some unsolved issues he never talks about not even under the influence of a dozen jars. If you notice that he starts singing any chorus, it might be a signal for you to keep your distance from him. Get too close to him and he might trash you just because. Background Story Being the third son in his family he left his home at 10 after his parents welcomed a stranger at their home who visited them on behalf of the young boy's paternal uncle. He desperately needed more males to work at his farm so he forced his nephew learn all secrets of his trade till the day come where the former king sent some of his royal guards to recruit as many boys as possible to aid His Majesty in the battlefield as assistants of sorts and cannon fodder if ever needed. The young Nosgard didn't know why he was fighting for until much later when he was an adult in his early twenties and learned the truth about the massacres and fall of his homeland. He didn't understand why there was no new ruler or retainer, his people was just left behind as if they all were presumed dead for an unknown reason. He's an habitual at the Bulky Pork tarvern. Suggested Scenarios His world might be in chaos and several counties or even countries or kingdoms might have fallen to any sort of menace like a foreign king conquering their land or the rise of the undead or the dragons or even the ancient elves. Diseases might be another explanation on why everything looks quite decadent and hopeless. The Beginning? A busy night at The Bulky Pork Tavern makes the worn out Nosgard the Ill Hunter think it's the right place to get a table and some rusty woodplanks to sit down and vigorously sip some ye good old pepper ale, his favorite beverage for a great hangover. A few flies were taking turns to find some more dirty stuff to examine throughly but the "tavern respectable local diners" didn't actually care about a few stupid bastards incessantly asking for food and drinks. There was just one single downside accodring to Woodbridge himself, the young girl that every so often ended up serving the meals and drinks, a lass whose name was short but never crossed his mind whenever she tried to make him remember anything about her and how good her tips should always be. "It's an expensive, bloody rip-off, I don't understand how I haven't cut her throat by now", said the archer in his early thirties. Third Character's Profile Name: Derek Barker Nickname: Watchdog Age: 19 Home: Any city (perhaps in the 80s or 90s) Occupation: Sales Agent in a Call Center He starts as a normal human, not sure if he ever gets any special abilities, that might depend on circumstances. Dark brown hair, light blue eyes, 5'8'' (1.77m) tall Character Traits He is kind of boring, picks fights for stupid reasons now and then, he might look quite independent to outsiders but in fact he is quite dependent. Derek hates to share his apartment with two other lousy roommates but can't do anything to fix that permanently. Background Story Derek works 8 to 12 hour shifts in a credit card department of a call center because he needs to collect enough money to get to college next year. He always had problems since he was in need of starting his new life as a independent young man after his mother disappeared mysteriously a couple of years ago. Even so his father Craig let him stay at home for another year and a half and he sure did as much as he could to help him and his younger sister but they all knew very well that Craig's job as an electrical technician wasn't well paid at all and things were just getting worse in their hometown, even some long standing shops shut down operations all of the sudden. Lately he has been frequenting a fast food restaurant, namely the Cheesie Chick, to see a girl he desperately loves but he hasn't asked her out, not even once, and grows impatient waiting for his lunch hour to go have some of their average hamburgers, chicken and salads. Later on Derek leaves his previous job and becomes a paramedic working for some private company. The Beginning? The sun wasn't hitting people that hard the day of spring when Derek showed up in town. He was a newcomer that moved to the city once he got a job interview at some company he never had heard anything about. Fortunately he didn't depend on a single opportunity to get some economic stability and he saved some money to pay for renting an apartment for a couple of months but he was looking to stretch his money so stay there for half a year at least. He bought a newspaper at the Lazy Barry's kiosk, unfolded it and started reading the houses for rent section carefully. After looking at some ads about expensive apartments and condos he finally found one that caught his attention. The message stated "Kicked our last roommate for being lousy. Low fee! Need to pay just a third of the rent! Call us now! 215 April Street Phone Number: 555-WXYZ". Fourth Character's Profile Name: Blake Cox Nickname: Unknown Age: Early Thirties Home: Any town or small city Occupation: Drug Dealer He starts as a normal human, not sure if he ever gets any special abilities, that might depend on circumstances and who he meets later on. Dark hair with blue locks at the right hand side, hazel eyes, 5'9'' (1.80m) tall Weapon: A Model 929 Smith & Wesson revolver with 8 rounds. For every day use he has some semi-auto pistols. RE: Some Short Detective Related Topic - Ahzoh - 04-25-2016 I know Higurashi does mystery with faint implications of supernatural going on, or there is Umineko which really does seem like a detective story and leaves it ambiguous whether the events going on were through natural means or supernatural. RE: Some Short Detective or Medieval Related Topic - kyonides - 04-26-2016 I also added my second character's profile so please post your suggestions, guys. RE: Some Short Detective or Medieval Related Topic - KasperKalamity - 04-26-2016 i knew this dame was crazy, she put her recycling out in the looney bin. RE: Some Short Detective or Medieval Related Topic - kyonides - 04-28-2016 I updated the main post once again waiting for some useful constructive feedback. RE: Some Short Detective or Medieval Related Topic - DerVVulfman - 04-28-2016 I like the Derek Profile. The fact his mother is missing has potential. And I think something should come to pass when he sees this girl at the "Burger Barn" when he orders his 'Cluck This' 10pc Nugget pack. Why is Derek's mother missing missing? Was she a reporter who uncovered something akin to the Panama Papers? Was she a secretary who discovered her company was a front for something shady? Or did she merely recognize someone on the street that day that she shouldn't have? And what of the girl he likes? Is she someone he knew from high school, or is she someone watching Derek to see if he knows something about his mother's whereabouts? Then again, it may be something related to his occupation at the Credit Card company. Did some numbers oddly appear in a client's account that turned out to be the rounded-off pennies from other accounts, skimming untracable residuals? This can go many ways... Oh, you can keep the 'Cluck This' 10pc set. RE: Some Short Detective or Medieval Related Topic - kyonides - 04-29-2016 I think that might not be a good idea, DerVVulfman, because I quickly found this on a Google search at the top of all 689,000 results. (How exaggerated!) Facebook Wrote:"Cluck This is a Mother Daughter collaboration. Together we blend Art and Agriculture" Original pieces of art... So I guess I'll get in trouble if I ever used it in any of my stories. Obviously some roleplay session would count as problematic but it's still inconvenient for me. RE: Some Short Detective or Medieval Related Topic - Ahzoh - 04-29-2016 They never told you that different things can have the same name. You would name it as a type of fast food meal, they name it as an art project. It is different intellectual property containing the same name, no different then the dozens of songs titled "Just like you". RE: Some Short Detective or Medieval Related Topic - kyonides - 04-29-2016 Well I updated the main post once again and now I'm leaving this piece of "insane literary art" roleplay scenario for anybody to discuss its contents, its style, etc. Kidnapping as a way of rp-living!
In my scenario there would be one or two stalkers that would later become the kidnappers after a teenager chick disappears right before her after school netball training session. [As a side note I might mention that her team is now incomplete and has no clear replacement for her since the best players in school were already part of it. So the coach has to make a tough decision, he / she either lets pretty much any other girl join the team for this single match just a couple of days away or not to partake in it and automatically lose the match as per netball school association's rules. Yes, the coach could also ask the principal to postpone the match due to the emergency and see if the association and the opponents agree on this.] Meanwhile the police shows up at her school to collect all evidence and any possible testimony. The problem is that the principal might be one of the initial suspects along her exboyfriend and his gang, one of the most popular girls there who happens to crave the fall dance queen tiara and might do anything stupid to get rid of one of her main competitors, the missing girl, the teenager's biological father that cannot even visit her since the painful divorce and of course some mysterious couple or partners in crime that have become famous on the net but no one has ever caught on video or photos. Later on the kidnappers contact the young girl's mother and step father to ask for her ransom, US$100,000 AND a very specific person in exchange, namely the netball team's sponsor, a wealthy man, owner of a luxury car retail shop among many other businesses in the state. The mother in terrible pain might also be an employee of his without her even being aware of this. Her family has a limited time to hand over the ransom. After several hours the kidnappers make a second phone call to tell her parents that they got to be sure they've got the money before the time is over or else the lovely netball player will miss an organ and nobody is going to tell the police where the girl or her body will be dropped. I guess there is also a possibility that a cop might be the kidnappers' partner, a mole in the local / state police station who might interfere in the undergoing investigation. I forgot to mention that one of her siblings is emotionally unstable because he or she is an addict that fears one of the dealers might go after him or her. If this sibling learned about his or her sister's decease, who knows what he or she would be capable of doing... RE: Some Short Detective or Medieval Related Topic - kyonides - 05-02-2016 A Girl, The Maffia And A Superhero Or Vigilante
I thought there could be a story about a girl, a journalist, being chased by the Maffia. At an early stage she would find out something fishy directly or indirectly involving the Maffia. She would also feel under great pressure because her tenant has been asking here to move out of her kind of small apartment. She was aware she had rights and would defend them to the very end. Sadly a burglar broke in and stole a few apparently insignificant belongings and not much later the tenant grew really impatient and kicked her out of the apartment. For a weird reason some other belongings were missing while taking everything to the moving truck she hired for the job. At that point she really wasn't a journalist, not a well known one at least, but she later learns all about what actually happened back in that building and somehow convinces a sort of insignificant editor to publish her story. The problem is that this is the moment when the Maffia starts stalking her anywhere. As a plus in this story a maffia boss (Romolo Damiani) and a superhero could also share a love interest or a passion for anything, perhaps classic cars, I don't know. Well, if we keep it as some original world then instead of a superhero it could be a vigilante or some retired sniper, a former soldier that was discharged after any specific incident. These people, having different viewpoints about life, soon become enemies. The superhero or the vigilante meets the girl but regrets it because he pretended to stay in the shadows where he could work unseen by the authorities. I would like to state that this superhero or vigilante wouldn't be like Batman but more aggressive and doesn't care about shooting down his enemies. Later on the journalist might also become either a supervillain or antihero depending on her connection with the superhero / vigilante at that moment and some supervillain she was tracing to write an article about him or her. Just to get things straight I'll say that whenever I mentioned a superhero or supervillain it could also mean a common hero or villain in a world that doesn't have any relation to any comic book / fantasy story. |
