If any of you uses Linux as its favorite operating system, e.g. Debian, *Ubuntu, Fedora, ArchLinux, etc., you can use convert tool and it will even convert a png file into an icon ico file.
There are other tools as well like potrace to convert bitmap bmp files into svg files, though convert can also let you with png to svg file conversions...
