H4XX0R RPG

H4XX0R is my new project. I wanted to make a game that could be finished to a playable extent in a day - and it worked and is now online and playable.

It is a bit small at the moment and doesn't have an ending, but I am expanding it daily adding new little bits and goodies and so on.

H4XX0R is set in a virtual Internet with parodies of quite a few popular sites (with much more planned to follow).

You trot around this virtual zone finding information such as passwords, usernames, new sites to visit, and so on. It uses cookies and also php input systems to be able to uncover new websites and new hyperlink lists.

There is a storyline though it hasn't been developed much so far.

Click here for the homepage: www.h4xx0r.in

The homepage probably explains it a bit better.

Next sites to be added will be:

- yahoo answers (already exists but only one page!)
- paypal
- hotmail
- ebay
- wikipedia
- youtube

Current sites "online":

- google
- gmail
- h4xx0r
- facebook
- amazon
- a9
- yahoo answers
- holliter dating site
- youporn
- "get ripped in 28 days"

Any ideas for new sites are more than welcome.

They are mainly parodies but some exist simply as hubs to other sites (mainly gmail and hotmail).

Facebook is my favourite bit so far because it actually works - you can add and remove friends, "chat to people" (to some extent :p) and so on.

If you want to discuss game secrets then please use spoiler tags.

Currently there are two usernames and passwords hidden in the game:

- gmail password
- paypal username/password - but you can't log into paypal yet

UPDATE #5

Just spent a while coding the next passwordquest. This one is a lot lengthier and requires further digging into the smallest of links...

I have updated several pages and added some new ones.

Go to paypal - and click to send a password reminder... and then... yeah.

I am hoping it won't be too difficult so I need people to test it!

This also introduces a "working" e-mail system - it will send the password reminder to your "gmail account".

Note: assume any cases are the same as when you found them. If you think a password is thompson and saw it with a small t then its a small t.

New Domain

h4xx0r is now located at:

http://www.h4xx0r.in

While the original directory remains it will not be updated. Please use the new domain.

I finished wikipedia, will add a link to it somewhere soon.

New site

As a hidden easter-egg, I have added Gamecock, which has flash games you can play. (Thanks Tomas for the idea)

It doesn't add anything much gameplay or story wise, and is hidden so you'll have to find it if you wanna use it :).

Folks in IRC have already seen it.

Passwordquest #3: Hotmail

The next stage of the game is now online, introducing a few new websites.

This also introduces a live emailing system... you'll receive an e-mail to your gmail inbox at *a stage* of the game.

The username is an e-mail address, found from a previous page. The password is displayed in plain text form in the right casing on one of the pages. It's an obvious one but you have to find it.

Hotmail has been added to the stats on the homepage:

Just to make you feel rubbish: 14 people have found the gmail password; 3 people have entered paypal; 1 people have entered hotmail. The game has been played 87 times.

Added youtube, and updated Google search to search videos as well as the web :p

Edit: Apologies for the apparent double posting spree; Deacon had posted here and now his posts are deleted -.-;

Large Updates 7/3/10

Identities

Replaced all images in the game with parodic counterparts. Haven't changed text yet.

Passwords

I'm still learning php, and upon finding the strtoupper() method I've now made all passwords in h4xx0r non-case-sensitive.

For example, if the password was previously Alan, you can now type "alan", "Alan", "ALAN", "aLAN", and it will work.

I have reduced ambiguity on the hotmail page. You now only need the ID part of the e-mail address. You can access it with either:

"USERID@hotmail.web", "USERID".

Again this too is not case sensitive, so you could even type "usErId@hOtMaIl.WeB" and it would work, or "useRId".

Terminal

The terminal is working quite well at the moment and forms the fourth password search.

Er... basically you'll know you've got the password if you can type "sudo make sammich" without it telling you you have fat fingers.

Type "help" in the terminal if you are unsure what to do. There are various *nix commands though they are bastardised and shat upon and simplified and electrified and systematic and automatic. Dundundundundundun go grease lightning etc etc.

"Begin" Menu

There's now a mock "start menu" on the right hand side of the screen.

This contains icons for the terminal, and also the web, which simply provides a link to the H4XX0R start page for anyone who gets lost.

This does hide some links (such as the google link off facebook); will fix shortly.

Quoted from the homepage:

Just to make you feel rubbish: 24 people have found the gmail password; 7 people have entered paypal; 5 people have entered hotmail. The game has been played 311 times.

"Game plays" are counted every time the link from http://www.h4xx0r.in is clicked, it's not uniques (well it is, sort of, but if someone plays the game twice, then it counts that. It doesn't count all page views, just the amount of times people access the game from http://www.h4xx0r.in)

The 24 people, 7 people, 5 people, are all genuine, minus 1 from each (myself). It uses cookies to make sure nobody is counted twice (within reason).
