A Welcome Greeting - EthanK - 01-11-2023

Hi my name is EthanK. I signed up here on this page (Save-Point.org).
I was interested because I play game maker games like RPG Maker XP,
and I want some help with my projects. If there is anyone that knows about
H-Mode 7, because I want to make my games a little more intense by making
them 3-D with the new feature called H-Mode 7 for RPG Maker XP? I downloaded
the script, but I need to learn how to make H-Maps for it.

Is  there anyone that can let me know how to make the black and white Height Maps
for RPG Maker XP with H-Mode 7?

Thanks!

Welcome to Ssave-point!

Glad to have you. Now as far as H-Mode 7, it too was one of my favorite scripts to play with in RPG Maker XP. There's a thread for it https://save-point.org/thread-3151.html which sort of goes into details about how to use the heightmap for your levels. Another thing that's a great thing to know, is that you can stack child maps on top of your base maps for larger buildings and more!

The way I used it was, I created a bunch of blocks that would represent all the faces of x,y, and Z fr the scenes I was building, and go from there. I had a LOT of fun with it, and look forward to seeing what you come up with!

Hello and welcome to Save-Point!

H-Mode 7 is sweet! Granted, I've hardly used it, but I would love to see somebody do something cool with the system.

*HOWUU* (Translation from Lycan:  Howdy!)

Welcome! welcome!  Glad you got the response, and likewise gave a response.

I haven't messed with HMode7 in years.  Comically, even MGC couldn't explain how his TEXTURES worked out for his 3D models.  It came down to me tinkering with it to figure out how to word it for him.  I mean, I wrote his help file... Isn't that funny?

okay, maybe I'm a bit confused - printing out your heightmaps?

Did the thread have the demo to look over how they did heightmaps?
I can try to take a look at it myself too.

Update: So, when creating a map, it's important to remember that a map that's say 100x100 will require a 3200x3200 greyscale JPG file that it reads and applies to the main map... those are in your Graphics/Heightmap folder

However, those squares that you show there, those are for the tiles themselves, where basically each tile is a number, (2 through infinity)
In this case, with that tilemap, there are 40 such tiles (5 rows of 8 columns), each one with their own colormap/each of four side maps. For complex shapes, in particular tile number 7 with that cool-looking L-shaped building? you can ensure that each side of the building is represented by that four sided color map.

(Really good for making ziggurats.)

Of course, remember that all the buildings are ONLY represented by heightmaps, and there's no real way to do complex shapes except by using events centered on the top that can give the illusion of things like overhanging roofs.

Ultimately, H/Mode 7 allows for some VERY interesting atmospheres... enjoy!

In these scenerios, I had to create a 'colormap' for each tile I created. It was an exhaustive process but as you can see, the rewards were worth it.

I wish you the best of luck working with the RPG Maker XP's H-mode7

One thing I can't stress enough. When making buildings that are tall and you're trapped with the idea of having to make those tiny little colormaps for EVERY wall in your game? I used wall events, pushed them up against the sides of the buildings. That way I could focus on JUST the borders (top of the walls, and down the major sides. This gave me the aiblity to do MUCH crisper floors and walls without having to do hundreds of little blockmaps.

So what I meant is I don't know how to create the tiles for the Height Maps that are in my Graphics/Heightmap folder,
(the tiles (5 rows of 8 columns)).

When I created a map in the RPG Maker XP game, I tried to load it, but it says
"Unable to find file (Graphics/tilesets/001-Grassland01_Hmap."
because I don't have a black and white image of the 001-Grassland01 tileset or the 40 tiles for it.

The thread did not have the demo to look over how they did heightmaps.

Underneath one of the images there is the link for H-Mode 1.4.4 with the Demo and the Script and the DLL files. also in that directory, I believe DerVVulfman snuck in a .chm file which is sort of a manual about the scripts.

I'd say go ahead and copy those tilesets from that project into your own. Even if you choose to do your own tilesets, having that base tileset for say the demo maps in the game can be a life-saver.
