Official Junked OST (Music Suite by TriaDev) - Remi-chan - 09-23-2024

As some of you may know, Jake Gamelin resigned from the CCC to pursue more local and lucrative work opportunities after he finished the OST for Fantasia. Since that time I've been making games still, and one of the composers to rise to fill the void for these entries has been Triatic (or more commonly TriaDev), who is now seven tracks in to the Junked OST, which in total is slated to have 28 tracks of music as well as three music effects. It's a small scale project which works well for testing out a more amateur composer.

Today, I aim to share TriaDev's fantastic work with you.

Theme of Rumirez

Rumirez is a thinker, she often dabbles in psychological musings, and tries to understand the motives of people, even if she has no real desire to change them. She's also a catalyst, often rallying others to be more than they were complacent to be. That's why we have this theme where it feels almost like a sort of dancing theme, as it gets that spring in the step. I can see Rumirez pepping someone up with this theme playing.

Theme of Flannel

We wanted a theme that showed when the chips are down, Flannel is willing to both shield his friends and help them heal. To him his friends are everything. Flannel finds himself caring immensely about the people he's still got around him, his empathy rising to an occasion where most have subjected themselves to apathy or nihilism. He's also the bravest of the kids, and has already challenged Junko to combat, which is more than most would dare try. The theme I think shows his willingness to action and his commitment to the people he cares about well. It's just all around, a real banger.

Theme of Solistace

TriaDev really went in hard on the leitmotifs for these characters, making them recognizable and powerful. At 32 seconds in we get the main riff of Solistace's theme, which is used in most the tracks that will utilize her leitmotif, such as Polymer.

Theme of Junkheap

Since Junkheap is largely the comic relief character, we wanted to have his theme feel more like a party kinda theme. So we leaned into swing and blues to give him a more lighthearted theme which serves to be more upbeat than these miserable orphans who now live at world's end. TriaDev did an amazing job of making him feel like a punchy, fun character while still retaining some level of gravitas in his theme so it didn't feel entirely off.

Theme of Junko

When those bells come in (which we called Heaven's Bells to parody the Hell's Bells Vegeta of DBZ has in the Falconeur score) it really does come into its own. Junko is a fairly uncaring Reaper Angel responsible for wiping out the vast majority of humanity. While nothing could justify such an act, it is her directive, and necessary in the eyes of both gods and the system.

Gulf of Mexigone Stage Theme

Utilizing Flannel's leitmotif, you can really feel the oppressive and hellish vibe the gulf of mexigone is, introducing both Rumirez and the player to this apocalyptic wasteland where meeting other humans is a novel rarity, mostly you're meeting monstrosities, malfunctioning robots or nasty beasts made even nastier by pollution.

Terminus Islands Stage Theme

This is essentially the area most attributed to Solistace, so it uses her leitmotif heavily. I really love how TriaDev creates punchy leitmotifs and then can subdue or intensify them for strong emotional impact or ambience. I also like how for the stage themes she's used ambient sounds (crashing waves) to emphasize the environment in which this plays.
