Freezing?

Im like REALLY nooby at rmxp cuz i just started so i warn you that this question will make you facepalm. Okay heres the scenario. Player accepts quest. Walks out. NPC talks to him.NPC joins party. But whenever i walk out to another room, the game freezes! I made an autorun event which has a switch that made it so that if the player accepts the quest, that will happen. but since i only want the NPC to be seen after the player accepts the quest i made the 1st event with no graphics and then switches to a new event which shows the NPC walking towards the player with a control switch. So yea...i have a bad feeling that this might be the dumbest question ever...
