This may be, but I'll admit that when I do fill requests (sadly not very often now because of my busy schedule) I am always more likely to work with someone who offers something in return. Even if I don't need what they're offering, it tells me that they're serious and that they are willing to sacrifice their time doing something they are good at to get something done that they're not.
