how old are you exactly? do you lift weights? if you're concerned about being normal, relax. puberty is different for everyone. it's not exactly confusing, it's just tailored to your body/genes/lifestyle, and as scientifically complicated as trying to explain how magnets work. as far as being a bubbling crock of hormones, working out will help your body produce more testosterone, since it's a growth hormone.
if what you call 'normal' is body hair and for-no-reason boners at your grandma's house, the strength training is what you should go for. your muscles will grow, and your body will produce more growth hormones to get you growing. also, if your're 13-15, softcore pron on HBO is the sexually healthiest thing ever. what muscle groups you focus on, and whatever porn you watch can have a profound effect on your physical/emotional development. but if i can make a suggrstion, HBO's 'real sex' series is great because of it's documentary style of exploring people's different sexual tastes. the important thing is that you try to remain comfortable in your own body, and comfortable with your own tastes. your first time doing the dirty is guaranteed to be awkward, and over in a matter of minutes. that's life, and that's just the way things happen. just don't ever apologize to anyone, or take any crap for being who you are.
you are alive, and that's your 'doctor's note' as it were, to be who you are, and do what you do.
