How to montage a few years worth of bits of footage? I....this...arg.

I'm working on a tribute/best-off montage. From the start I told myself that I can't use "the best" material, because that would be way to much. So I limited myself to the best of the best, making harsh decisions on what makes the cut and finding myself sad not to include some great parts.
...I'm only a third through the footage that I have and the clips in my selection are allready almost an hour worth of time. I'm afraid of how long this will end up being when I am done, even if I go further and only use the VERY best of the best.
I mean, one one hand that proves my point of just how much there is, but that's still way to long! XD
