As Kyonides said, 4 is an absolute minimum these days, Windows, especially 64bit, uses between 2 and 3 of those. Honestly I wouldn't settle for less than 6 but most people would push that to 8. Personally I use minimum 16 as I make music which is very RAM heavy (my most recent project maxed that out, had to split it into 2 parts, so yes, I do use all of my RAM).

Ideally, I would have 32 or 64 for my setup.
