Yup i did this before testing the game jneul.
I think i've only felt a little lag/slowdown when scrolling up and down the tileset to choose a piece to set.

hmmm thats weird, it should work then if you have your party set up
the lag with the tile set is perfectly normal as it is dynamically loading the correct area of the image to the tile set (as in xna you are limited to a certain texture width and height dependant on resolution and graphical capabilites)

i have fixed that issue now so that it only caches when needed (i.e. the image is bigger than the allowed size)

can you confirm does your party look something like this (sorry if i am being a pain)
