one needs to ensure the file saved isn't a .webp file when a .png is desired.  This because its compressing the .png file and damaging it in the same manner as a .jpg.  It takes a little extra to get the image un-touched and un-aliased.  So much fun when you have triple-digit quantities of image files to save.

  I continue to detest webp files. They won't play nice with my default picture viewer nor any of my graphics programs. And they tend to ruin alpha channels, as well. I use Irfanview to convert them into other file formats, though yeah the transparency settings become an issue. Using online converters could work, but not sure how fast that would be for hundreds of images.
