 Area 99

Area 99

Well then.  since I lost motivation of School of Magics, and cancelled it, I thought about things.  Things such as "when am I going to write that silly little novel I thought of way back when from the beginning again".  Then, while playing God Eater Resurrection on my brother's PS4, I start using the character names of said novel idea for custom characters in video games! Shocked   That aside, I decided to think "Screw it!  I'll make it an RMXP game too and release it first before typing the novel."

Area 99 takes place in a future earth where technology advancement has halted completely, and a place, not marked on the map, has been created by the world's governments.  This place selects certain middle school students, who are at about grade 8 or so, and transfers them from their school to this place.  Given they cannot return home.  The students are given a chip in thier heads to keep track of their mood.  These chips can generate weapons and a V.E.H.I.C.L.E., a land and sea tank (I just really made up the name).  The students in this place are assigned to complete requests from the world's governments, companies, and people and return to this place without talking about the place, or using their real name in general.  Welcome to Area 99... and it's pretty much very huge.  Dang I botched that up, possibly.

Characters:

Durami

Home - New York City
Country - United States of America

Durami is a middle school student who has a "C" grade in every subject, but biology.  He lives with his father in New York City.  Durami currently mourns over the loss of his mother, who had died when he was 6 years old.  He gets called a "foreigner" in his school because of his mother's side of his family.  He does have a few friends however.

Suki
[Image: 1468907699.png]

Home - Tokyo
Country - Japan

Suki is the "Young maiden" of her family, which she hates because she doesn't want to do any of the ancient traditions her family has done since the edo period.  Because of this little issue with her family, she would try to avoid her family, but it never lasts long.  Her family and her gets into so many arguments that it's hard to keep track of them all.  In her school, she is known to be a great fighter who can kick REALLY REALLY HARD.

Crow - Info Coming Soon
Kitara - Info Coming Soon
Professor LAN - Info Coming Soon
Dr. Ray - info Coming Soon

Dr. Zach

Home- Unknown
Country - Unknown

By first seeing Dr. Zach, things make you wonder HOW he became a doctor in the first place.  Don't let his silly side fool you though, he is pretty much an official Doctor in Area 99.  Not only does he do everything that a Doctor would do, he also teaches, and monitors all the selected students.  He can also do other things, but he intends to hide them for now.

Well, I have some development started.  I decided to use the Lycan ABS for this one, though there may not be a lot of battling however.  I'm still in the midst of editing the HUD (images wise) before continuing, but so far... It's a little bit.  Also I found a Character graphic for Suki that I made, however I may want to think of figuring out how to put her in a middle school outfit, that Japanese middle schoolgirls wear.

Well, that's all for now.  Better get back into editing the HUD, and some more things. Happy with a sweat

Don't forget that the config section lets you adjust the X/Y coordinates of... um.... EVERYTHING! I made my own game's hud look like the one in DIABLO. Winking I'd like to see what you come up with.

Well, done with the HUD image changing/editing/whatever-you-want-to-call-it.  For now I made gradients, with text above said gradients, these are placeholders until I decide to make a different image for a section or so.  Now comes the harder part, in my point of view.  I'm going to rearrange everything in the HUD, as well as add Icons for certain sections (I completely managed to show no icons via, Script config and image editing).

Well, I guess I'm gonna have to rearrange things now, as well as make more character graphics for the other characters (Playable Characters, NPCs, and Enemies), as well as make a Visual Novel-like graphics for all certain characters.  Well, time to get back to it-ish.

Here's an update, which I didn't do much because I had guests, and a looong watching of a dog, while waiting for its owner to return home (my mother).  But I did do this real quick.

This is the first pistol, for the first character, Durami (who's look I'm yet to show at the moment).

Other characters will also have a pistol as their starting weapon.  And the best part is, you can mix and match pistols for all of the characters.  Want Suki to have a pistol Durami has, that's possible.  They all will be able to equip any pistol.  But aside from the long range weaponry (Hope  I spelled that word right), Each character will have a personal type of weapon.  Here they are as follows:

Durami - Sword and Sheath (Something similar to characters from various games who have  a sword and a sheath... example - Patrokolos from SoulCalibur V)
Suki - Dual wield Daggers (She will be able to kick as well as slash her opponents)
Crow - Dual Wield Single Handed Swords (Also having the ability to make life-like holograms which will disappear when damaged is a bonus with this type)
Kitara - Dual Blade (to put it more bluntly a blade is on each end, the top and the bottom)
Professor LAN has no other weapon than the pistols
Dr. Zach - Tonfas (for the heck of knocking enemies out)

That's pretty much it for a week. Huh... I should probably look up on how to draw characters.

Here to say that Development is going to continue soon, just not now.  Anyway, I do have a new idea for this project, and I will try to execute this idea when I get to it.

I thought it'd be easier to NOT have an Item shop and become supplied with Items before doing requests and story related stuff, these even stack.  That way, you won't need to focus on purchasing recovery items all of the time.  I mean, it'd make sense since the Playable Characters, except two, are middle school students.  This won't apply for weapons, armor, or accessories.  Those will have shops.  This'll be easily done with eventing.  so this may actually work out. :)

Another Idea I had is some requests that would require to guard an NPC, I think that's possible with the Lycan ABS, but I haven't the knowledge, or time, to do that yet.  I'm still trying to figure out where to put HUD elements at in the game screen, as well as add Weapons in the database and creating Character graphics for all the characters.

PROGRESS!

I have adjusted the HUD, by guessing coordinates since I have no idea how to accurately place things in a pixel perfect position.

Here is the screenshot of what I did so far.

I took out the minimap, since I don't think I'll be using it much.  Due to that, I have gotten some more space for other elements.  The Log Window is at the top right of the screen, and the hotkeys windows are at the bottom.  The Stats section (I don't know what to call it, anyway (it's on the top right) is staying where it is for the moment  I haven't decided where to put that... then again, I probably won't move it at all.  Anyway, until I somehow add ammunition, I won't be adjusting anymore at the moment.  Now I guess I better focus on Durami's character graphic for now.

Hey, you were wondering about escort duty, guarding an NPC right?. Remember the first Lycan demo. Jane is the helpless NPC you have to escort throughout the game. Winking I just used a parallel process in each maps to see if she was killed. Nothing big.
