Literature Gaming and Film Making Restrictions

Literature Gaming and Film Making Restrictions

I was astonished when I read the article below. Villains are NOT allowed to use Apple products on screen! Yeah, I know, it's not something really important at all but it's kind of intriguing, don't you think? Happy with a sweat

Short Article

Lengthy Article

No matter if Johnson's comment is true or Apple ever confirms it, is it wise or convenient to take such measures?
Would sales ever drop if villains started using those fruity products? Confused

What really makes me start this thread is the following question. Would you follow that company's example and suggest or forbid the use of your products in literature, gaming and film making? Confused

Would I follow their example and forbid my product' use? Obviously, it depends upon the situation.

All these products are trademarked, copyrighted and protected by some means. Some animated features resort to using 'mis-spelled' variations of brand names to get away with it within backgrounds. Seeing SOBY RECORDS in an anime in the lettering style of Sony, or a 7/11 Convenience Store wanname without using their name tends to occur. Either that, or they don't show their name.

Can you actually say the tablet the villain is using is an iPad or is it a Microsoft Surface? Hell, is it a leftover datapad from Star Trek: The Next Generation? (they shoulda gotten royalties...)

Not only that, but feature films need to scout locations. Some churches refused to be involved in 'The Exorcist' due to the nature of the film. And the beginning scene from Highlander was originally meant to depict Connor McLeod at a Hockey Match. But the Hockey League refused to permit it filmed, as they felt it would depict the sport as too violent.

Still, one may be lucky if making a film or TV show. Product Placement. They could pay YOU to put their product in your show. Laughing
