 Recent Spammer Intrusion
Dear members,

As you were made aware, the forum did undergo a hack on the 9th of September this year.  Coincidentally, I contracted Covid which put me away for a couple weeks. It was at that moment that the forum received a spike in registrants.

Many were ... naughty.

As stated, there was a spike in registrants. The number of members who joined had in fact exceeded 500 in number. And the bulk of these registrants had accounts that originated in forbidden sites, those being TOR proxies which have been known as a hacker's favorite method to hide, and websites recognized as sources of spam.  Along with that, a fair number of accounts used eMails that have been connected to other websites that have undergone spam attacks, and quite a few used Multiple Accounts.  Only staff are allowed to have more than one member account.

And incidentally, some of the website tracking showed that some spam source websites have been registered with up to 10,000 complaints.

An excerpt from the current registration page post-hack.

Probably to the dismay of many, the bulk of the recently registered members, all with TOR proxies and originating from spam sites with roughly two thousand to three thousand complaints have been banned.  More to their dismay, it only required a day to perform this duty, this after recovering fully from the big 'C'.

Said checkups will occur quite often, certainly more often than once every 24 hours. And error checking will also continue, visiting or revisiting accounts dating back to just before September 9th in case anything was missed.

Have a nice day.

Dear members,

While going through the list of 500, certain nuances have been detected.  While a great number of accounts had been banned as the use of TOR proxies and spam sources were found, some accounts went another route.  It was found that other members used so-described 'throw-away' eMail accounts that, upon detailed investigation, were linked to numerous instances of spam activity.  Some of which were reported by up to six thousand (6000) websites.

Noting that these accounts show direct intent for spam activity, these accounts are just as forbidden from Save-Point as those connected to TOR proxies and spam sources.

The registration page's limitation section shown above has now been updated for this reason as well as others.  Note that it was stated earlier this week that checkups would occur quite often. As such, it was found that various accounts had intentionally created accounts and switched over to use TOR systems and/or were found to be related to other said-banned accounts. Because of said attempts to circumvent detection, the above limitations had to be addressed.

And while our registration page clearly states that the forum does not condone certain behavior, it was found only this past week that certain people wish to create account with intentionally offending and NSFW user names. It should have stood to reason for anyone reading the earlier paragraphs of the registration page that said behavior is not condoned. However, this too had to be addressed.

Of the five-hundred accounts created, there are numerous accounts that are still under scrutiny. However, these are accounts with throw-away accounts and are likely to be discovered as automated bots at a later time. Fortunately, services do exist in order for this determination.  These accounts will be handled accordingly.

This is not to say that all of the past accounts generated after the 9th of September are all bot/Tor/Spam accounts. There are many that are not.  And for those who have created legitimate accounts  and are curious as to why they do not have use of their User Control Panel or other services, you neglected to note that a simple 'Introduction' (non-spam) post within our Occassions board will trigger full registration.

Patrolling, safeguarding, maintenance and investigations are still, and will always be ongoing.  This is to ensure that Save-Point remains a safe harbor as it has been for over a decade.

Thank you.
