Which kind of battle system do you enjoy the most?

Bolt Wrote:Well, why not try it again? Try playing Zelda and see if you can beat that dungeon. Or try some other quests/games with similar systems. Personally, I prefer skill over luck when deciding my fate in games. Mostly because I have horrible luck, but also because I like to test my skills in every game I play. I'm always looking for a challenge, and that challenge isn't there in RPG games because it all boils down to whether or not the game lets me win.

Huh, thanks for the link! And yeah, I've played other ABS games that were pretty enjoyable, like Terranigma, but the problem is actually finishing them, hahah.

As for skill... well, good non-ABS games require a plentiful amount of it. Unfortunately, a lot of them have devolved into simple button mashing, or 'choose x for massive damage and heal sometimes oops hope that death spell didn't hit your MC'. Sigh.

I loved sideview, they have lots of changes and they have almost infinities possibilities, the ABS systems are good, but for me they are all of them almost the same

I pick side-view BSs. In addition ABSs usually suck in amateur games. But the BSs I really enjoyed the most have been the tactical ones.

Sure, it's not all luck, but when you go for the finishing blow, no items left to heal you, you're one hit from death, and the game decides you miss and he hits, that's not strategy or skill, that's death by bad luck. THAT'S what I hate about non-ABS in games, amateur or not.

Yeah, that's one of the main things I hate about standard RPG battle systems. Insta-Death is the DUMBEST thing to ever place into an RPG, and they've been around since D&D was started ("DARN YOU NATURAL ONE!!!"). Some of my favorite RPGs, tactical, ABS or otherwise, have been plagued by Insta-Death.

Of course and In ABS you NEVER do miss right? -.-... dont be silly...
You just press a button and the game pass alone, in turn based you have to use your brain not your fingers...(exept if you are talking about paper mario saga, donde you need both fingers and brain to finish it :P)

Insta-Death ? Well depends how you implement it, i love the "try and win" roulette from final fantasy than kills a RANDOM character (and its funny :P)

Of course I miss in an ABS, but it's MY fault. It's not frustrating when I miss, it's proof I need to practice more. When the game decides I missed, no amount of training will fix this. If I'm at the highest level for my character, and they miss anyway, there's nothing I can do. There's no amount of training I can do, no leveling left, probably no items left that could help either. It's just a smack to the face to realize the best you can ever hope to accomplish can be stopped by the game saying "No" to you.

Even in Tactical RPGs, you still have to fight this problem. This is why I prefer Zelda over all other games, and ABS over all other systems.
