OKAY!
The Doctor Who Approach
While smoking a cigarette outside, I was still pndering how to get enough of a diversity of characters while still allowing for the vibrance of my character choices, and it hit me.
Doctor Who!
Some games allow for you to choose variations of a character. For instance, how many versions of Subzero were there in Mortal Kombat, How many variations of Ivy in Soul Caliber, how many versions of Jack were there in Tekken!
Now, while these are definitely fighting games, why can't there be variations of one of the main characters. Sure, you're choosing the big brawny swordswinger, but whos to say he's actually got black hair and a beard and not a blonde haired man? Who's to say that woman in the paladial armor isn't actually a half elf?
I think I'll work on a variations engine, which should allow me to have a certain amount of variations of each of the main characters, and the diversity I wanted.
