After leaving files alone for a while, I've found that they suddenly corrupt for no reason, causing annoying crashes.
I myself have Windows 10, and have had zero trouble with any types of music files. Not so sure it's the upgrade.
I'm sure someone with more experience could help, but in my Windows 10-using opinion, I don't see any reason the upgrade would've done that.
Also, you said you tried compatibility modes, but they didn't work. That kinda gets rid of the Windows 10 argument then, right?
