I just noticed I've forgotten to mention you can or are EXPECTED to propose more mayoral candidates at anytime. 
Even weird campaign propaganda or ideas are welcome, especially if you have proposed yourself as an eventual candidate.
The will allow the game not to just become a Kustom Town part 2 release. I want it to portray a lot of wacky candidates and proposals of all kinds. It could also help define the basics of the espionage plot I might include there.
