New York City lawmakers voted Tuesday on budget changes that shifted $1 billion from the New York Police Department to programs that assist in youth and community development, a number that fell short of what many protesters in the city have demanded.
The City Council said in a statement that the city's 2021 budget will include $837 million in cuts and transfers to the New York Police Department (NYPD) expense budget, which removes $1 billion from the NYPD’s spending when combined with associated costs.
The amount is far less than what some protesters demanded. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., said earlier that $1.5 billion in cuts would not be enough.

I'm not against helping the youth, rehabilitate it when necessary, but these budget cuts are stupid. Can't they see people need police more than ever? After months of isolation, people do get violent. It happened in Argentina, Costa Rica, Australia and even the USA. Who did ever protect the CHOP's people when the mayor kick the police out of the zone? Nobody did, they kept committing violent crimes. Unless you live in a comfortable and rural area, it's quite hard to live a peaceful life if criminals face no opposition.

“Nine-billion dollars evaporated, just gone in the course of just a few months” the Democratic mayor told reporters, describing the devastating financial effects of the coronavirus.

Of course they would quickly vanish! As we've already reported the council were paying hotels a lot of money to shelter homeless people and sex offenders!

How the hell did de Blasio, a mayor I'd prefer to call de Payaso come up with a crazy idea of slashing the EMS? So New Yorkers and tourists should now take a bus or a cab instead of an ambulance to get to the nearest hospital?

Mayor Bill de Blasio noted that upward of 22,000 public employees may be at risk of losing their jobs as a result of the pandemic.
"There's going to be a huge fiscal impact on every agency of the city government," de Blasio said Wednesday.
"Since then, seven members have already lost their lives due to their efforts", president of FDNY EMS Local 257 Barzilay told Fox News.

They've worked hard for NYC and what they get in return is... a threat!? So every cop and emergency worker should be laid off any time soon!? Is that the kind of tribute you're gonna make for those deceased workers?

By now de Blasio's latest stupid idea is very well known but this article mentions something quite interesting indeed.

Barzilay said that the $2 million that is used to pay New York City first lady Chirlane McCray’s staff, including a videographer, speechwriter, senior advisor, public relations director, and executive program specialist, could “save 40 EMT jobs.”

So people gotta suffer but de Blasio's wife should still be able to let her videographer, speechwriter among many others fill their pockets with badly needed money that could fund the salaries of some EMS workers?

The minimum you'd have expected from a city council would be to look for ways to keep people working somehow. Instead they were only thinking on making LARGE budget cuts, even if they were aware of the possibility of asking for loans. Since when did people stop being the number one priority of any kind of government!?

When will people understand that's not funny at all! What if they don't die because of Covid-19 but due to a sudden heart attack?
Really, I thought people had learned the lesson after what happened in Italy where Chinese people started hugging people out of the blue when nobody was aware of the virus.

Sometimes I wonder why they can't name this hurricanes something like Pitbull or Butcher or Terminator. They do sound like proper names for such forces of nature.
