The news came after 23 shootings -- two fatally -- occurred over the holiday weekend. The shootings victims include a 6-year-old, his mother and three others who were wounded by gunfire while celebrating J’Ouvert, a Caribbean culture festival, in Brooklyn early Monday.
Despite the bloodshed, Mayor Bill de Blasio touted the three-day break as a "peaceful weekend" during his Monday briefing.
"We had one incident and it is a very troubling incident where one individual shot five people in Crown Heights in the early morning hours Monday. One of those people was a 6-year-old boy. And that's deeply troubling," he said. "Thank God none have life-threatening injuries. But except for that incident. Overwhelmingly, we had a peaceful weekend in central Brooklyn and it really is because of the hard work of everyone."

So there were 23 shootings but he only cared about 1 of them. What about the other 22 groups of victims?

...a former NYPD officer, and Bronx Councilman Ritchie Torres have called for an independent investigation into an alleged work slowdown.
"You cut the budget. You take all the cops off the street and then you wonder why it takes longer for cops to get the job," he told the radio station.

Well, de Blasio always wanted to cut their budget but not his wife's, even if she doesn't need to spend $2 millions by hiring a speech writer, a hair dresser, among other people. Now with hundreds of cops getting dismissed, what city would be able to deal with criminality in a timely manner?

He attributed some the uptick in gun crimes to bail reform and court closures.

Definitely that's the worst way to deal with pitty criminals that never learn the lesson.

Even their local government admitted mainland China will judge them. Weren't they Hong Kongers in the first place!? Why do they need to transfer them to Beijing or Shangai or Wuhan to face a trial? That's right! They were heading to Taiwan. Even so the CCP treats Taiwan as a "rebel" province so it'd be Chinese soil as well, based on their own logic not the Taiwanese, so why would they ever need to arrest them at all!?

"If these Hong Kong residents were arrested for breaching mainland offences then they have to be dealt with according to the mainland laws and in accordance to the jurisdiction before any other things could happen." Mrs Lam added that her government had "a duty to render assistance" to Hong Kong residents "caught in all sorts of situations" abroad and the government's representative office in Guangzhou, Guangdong's capital, will look into ways to provide that assistance and liaise with mainland authorities.

And what jurisdiction was it? When exactly did they leave Hong Kong to enter Guangdong province or any other Chinese province? They were sailing to Taiwan! Plus China can't just think all of the South China sea is theirs. There are several countries there that own parts of that sea as well!

News agency AFP reported on Monday lawyers representing some of those captured have been denied access to their clients. Mrs Lam did not address that particular aspect when asked.

And they aren't even allowed to meet their lawyers! How can the Chinese authorities call it a due process if they can't defend themselves by contacting their lawyers? Especially when they can't really prove they committed a crime there.

Taiwan urges alliance against Chinese aggressive actions

Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen called on Tuesday for an alliance of democracies to defend against "aggressive actions" and protect freedom, alluding to Chinese actions in the South China Sea and Taiwan Strait as major threats to regional stability.
"The rapid militarisation of the South China Sea, increasing and frequent grey-zone tactics in the Taiwan Strait and East China Sea, coercive diplomacy used against countries and corporations...are all destabilising the Indo-Pacific region," Ms Tsai said, without directly naming China.
She called for a strategy that avoided war, yet conveyed the resolve to protect democracies by encouraging cooperation, transparency and problem-solving through dialogue.

China love to call US a bully. Oh really? And who exactly is bothering and threatening countries in the Pacific Ocean like Taiwan, Australia, Indonesia among others?
