CLOUDFARE OUTAGE
Quote:A major outage affecting Cloudflare’s Global Network has led to widespread internet disruptions, impacting popular platforms like Elon Musk’s X, ChatGPT,and even Downdetector, the first place people look to understand internet outages.
Cloudflare, the world’s leading web infrastructure and security company, confirmed that it was experiencing a significant issue with its Global Network in the early hours of Tuesday morning, causing widespread outages across the internet. The problem has affected various services, including social media platform X, OpenAI’s ChatGPT, and the outage monitoring site Downdetector among many other sites and apps experiencing problems. Even some news sites, including Axios, appear to be completely unreachable as of this writing due to the Cloudflare outage — visitors are asked to “unblock” a Cloudflare address to proceed.
According to Cloudflare’s System Status page, the company is currently investigating the issue, which is causing HTTP 500 errors that impact the Cloudflare dashboard and API. These server-level errors indicate that the problem lies within Cloudflare’s infrastructure, rather than with individual websites or servers. The Company claims in one of its most recent updates that, “The issue has been identified and a fix is being implemented.”
As a result of the outage, X has been experiencing intermittent issues, with availability being patchy for the past hour. Downdetector, which ironically relies on Cloudflare’s services, has also been affected by the outage. The site saw a peak of 11,201 reports of issues at 6:37 a.m. ET, with the number of reports gradually decreasing to 6,570 at the last data point. This decrease could suggest that the fix is slowly propagating across the internet, or that fewer people are reporting the issue as it becomes more widely known.
Cloudflare had been undergoing scheduled maintenance at 5:00 a.m. ET, according to the company’s website. This indicates the outage may be as a result of a botched internal change as opposed to a cyberattack or other external issue.
In an effort to mitigate the problem, Cloudflare has disabled WARP access in London. WARP is a tool designed to secure internet connections by encrypting all traffic from a user’s device, primarily used as a privacy tool for consumers and corporate customers. Unlike a VPN, WARP does not hide the user’s IP address; it simply encrypts their traffic.
The outage has also affected the 3D printing community, with popular platforms like Printables and Thangs displaying HTTP 500 error codes when users attempt to access them.
Breitbart News reported in October than a massive Amazon Web Services outage impacted much of the internet:
The root cause of the outage was traced back to an error in a technical update to the API of DynamoDB, a key cloud database service that stores user information and other critical data for numerous online platforms. The update issue affected the Domain Name System (DNS), which helps apps locate the correct server addresses. As a result, apps were unable to find the IP address for DynamoDB’s API and could not establish a connection.
DNS is one of the foundational technologies of the internet. It is often likened to a “phone book” for internet servers, translating addresses we type like amazon.com into IP addresses used to connect us to the proper server. If the DNS is the phone book, then the glitch in AWS’s DynamoDB would be a phone book that lists the wrong number for every person and business — resulting in a ton of failed connections.
Outages from major providers like Cloudflare and Amazon Web Services demonstrate the Internet is not the robust and redundant online service it is touted to be, due to the reliance of a handful of massive companies to keep data flowing.
Quote:Nov 18 (Reuters) - Cloudflare (NET.N), opens new tab has fully restored its services after an outage on Tuesday at the web-infrastructure company prevented thousands from accessing major internet platforms, including X and ChatGPT.
The company said the outage that began around 6.30 a.m. ET was caused by an automatically generated configuration file, designed to manage potential security threats.
The file grew too large and crashed the software system handling traffic for several Cloudflare services, the company, whose network handles around a fifth of web traffic, said.
The company said it has started to investigate and has deployed a fix but some customers might still be impacted as it recovers service globally. Its shares were down 2.3% in morning trading.
Cloudflare said there was "no evidence that this was the result of an attack or caused by malicious activity". It runs one of the world's largest networks that helps websites and apps load faster and stay online by protecting them from traffic surges and cyberattacks.
Last month, an outage at Amazon's cloud service caused global turmoil as thousands of popular websites and apps, including Snapchat (SNAP.N), opens new tab and Reddit (RDDT.N), opens new tab, were inaccessible due to the disruption.
The latest outage at Cloudflare prevented thousands of users from accessing platforms such as Canva, X, Grindr and ChatGPT, prompting users to log outage reports with Downdetector.
X and ChatGPT-creator OpenAI did not respond to requests for comment. Reports about issues with Cloudflare dropped to about 2,800 by 10:20 a.m. ET from a peak of over 11,000, the outage-tracking tool showed.
Downdetector tracks outages by collating status reports from a number of sources. Since the numbers are based on user-submitted reports, the actual number of affected users may vary.
"We saw a spike in unusual traffic to one of Cloudflare's services beginning at 11:20 UTC. That caused some traffic passing through Cloudflare's network to experience errors," the company said earlier in the day.
AI
Quote:Google CEO Sundar Pichai, joined by Texas Governor Greg Abbott ®, has announced a massive $40 billion investment in the state, which includes the construction of three new data centers in West Texas and the Panhandle.
KWTX reports that in a move that highlights Texas’ growing importance in the field of AI, Google has unveiled plans to invest $40 billion in the state through the development of three new data centers. The announcement was made by Alphabet and Google CEO Sundar Pichai, who was accompanied by Texas Gov. Greg Abbott in Midlothian on Friday.
The tech giant’s massive investment is the latest in a series of multibillion-dollar commitments by companies rushing to establish infrastructure capable of supporting advanced AI models. Google’s three new data centers will be situated in Armstrong County and Haskell County, with one of the Haskell County facilities being coupled with a new solar and battery storage plant designed to minimize its impact on the electric grid.
Gov. Abbott emphasized the significance of this investment, stating, “Texas is the epicenter of AI development, where companies can pair innovation with expanding energy. Google’s $40 billion investment makes Texas Google’s largest investment in any state in the country and supports energy efficiency and workforce development in our state. We must ensure that America remains at the forefront of the AI revolution, and Texas is the place where that can happen.”
Texas has witnessed a surge in data capacity in recent years, thanks to its relatively affordable energy prices, the ease with which facilities can connect to the grid, and its overall business-friendly tax and regulatory environment. The state currently boasts at least 411 data centers, second only to Virginia in the United States.
Pichai highlighted Texas’ crucial role in the growth of AI, saying, “They say that everything is bigger in Texas — and that certainly applies to the golden opportunity with AI.” Data centers, which are energy-intensive facilities housing servers that provide computing power, along with cooling units to prevent overheating, have contributed to projections by the Electric Reliability Council of Texas that demand on the power grid could nearly double by 2030.
Quote:Google CEO Sundar Pichai has cautioned that while the current surge in AI investment represents an “extraordinary moment,” there are also some elements of “irrationality” in the AI boom.
In an exclusive interview with BBC News, Google CEO Sundar Pichai addressed concerns about a potential AI bubble and its potential impact on companies like Google. Pichai acknowledged that if the AI bubble were to burst, no company would be immune to the consequences, including Alphabet.
“I think no company is going to be immune, including us,” Pichai stated, while also emphasizing that Google’s unique model of owning its full stack of technologies, from chips to data and AI models, puts it in a better position to weather any market turbulence.
Pichai’s comments come amidst growing scrutiny of the AI market, with Alphabet’s shares doubling in value over the past seven months to reach $3.5 trillion as investors gain confidence in the company’s ability to compete with rivals like OpenAI, the creator of ChatGPT. However, some analysts have expressed skepticism about the complex web of $1.4 trillion in deals surrounding OpenAI, which is expected to generate revenues this year that are less than one-thousandth of the planned investment.
Breitbart News recently reported on one prominent investor who believes the AI bubble is at risk of bursting, Michael burry of The Big Short fame:
In a series of 13F regulatory filings released on Monday, Michael Burry’s Scion Asset Management revealed that it had bought put options on Nvidia and Palantir, indicating a bearish stance on the two companies. The disclosures came just days after Burry posted a cryptic warning to retail investors about market exuberance on social media, including an image of his character from The Big Short movie and a warning that “sometimes, we see bubbles.”
These concerns have led to fears of a repeat of the dotcom boom and bust of the late 1990s, where the values of early internet companies surged before the bubble ultimately burst, resulting in job losses and a drop in share prices that impacted people’s savings and pension funds.
Pichai acknowledged the potential for overinvestment in AI, drawing parallels to the early days of the internet. “We can look back at the internet right now. There was clearly a lot of excess investment, but none of us would question whether the internet was profound,” he said. “I expect AI to be the same. So I think it’s both rational and there are elements of irrationality through a moment like this.”
Despite these warnings, Alphabet remains committed to investing in AI. Breitbart News recently reported that Google will invest $40 billion in three new AI data centers located in Texas.
However, Pichai also highlighted the immense energy needs of AI, which accounted for 1.5 percent of the world’s electricity consumption last year. He emphasized the need for action to develop new energy sources and scale up infrastructure to support the growth of AI without constraining economies.
The rapid advancement of AI is also expected to have significant impacts on the workforce. Pichai described AI as “the most profound technology” humankind has worked on and acknowledged that it will create societal disruptions and evolve certain jobs. However, he believes that those who adapt to AI will have better opportunities in their professions, regardless of the field.
Quote:The CEO of AI startup Anthropic, Dario Amodei, has cautioned that artificial intelligence companies must be open and honest about the potential dangers posed by their products, or risk repeating the mistakes made by Big Tobacco and opioid companies.
In a recent interview with CBS News, Dario Amodei, the CEO of Anthropic, expressed his belief that AI will eventually surpass human intelligence in most, if not all, areas. He urged his industry peers to be transparent about the risks associated with AI, emphasizing the importance of “calling it as you see it.”
Amodei drew parallels between the AI industry and Big Tobacco and opioid companies, warning that a lack of transparency about the impact of powerful AI could lead to similar errors. He stated, “You could end up in the world of, like, the cigarette companies, or the opioid companies, where they knew there were dangers, and they didn’t talk about them, and certainly did not prevent them.”
Earlier this year, Amodei raised concerns about the potential job displacement caused by AI, predicting that within five years, half of all entry-level white-collar jobs in fields such as accountancy, law, and banking could be eliminated. He emphasized the need for intervention to mitigate the broad and rapid impact of AI on the job market.
Amodei also introduced the concept of “the compressed 21st century,” suggesting that AI could accelerate scientific breakthroughs at a much faster pace than in previous decades. He posed the question, “Could we get 10 times the rate of progress and therefore compress all the medical progress that was going to happen throughout the entire 21st century into five or 10 years?”
Known for his advocacy of online safety, Amodei and Anthropic have recently highlighted various concerns about their AI models, including an apparent awareness of being tested and attempts at blackmail. Breitbart News reported this month that Anthropic publicly admitted that Chinese hackers had used its AI platform to automate hacks against major companies:
Quote:According to Jacob Klein, Anthropic’s head of threat intelligence, the hackers’ use of AI automation reached an alarming level, with 80 to 90 percent of the attack being automated. The hackers were able to initiate attacks “with the click of a button” and only required human input at a few critical decision points. This level of automation in cyberattacks is a growing trend that provides hackers with increased speed and scale.
The hacking campaign focused on approximately 30 targets, and while Anthropic claims to have disrupted the attacks and blocked the hackers’ accounts, up to four intrusions were successful before the company intervened. In one instance, the hackers instructed Anthropic’s Claude AI to independently query internal databases and extract data.
Quote:The concept of toys that talk back may sound more reminiscent of a horror movie than of playtime as a child for some generations. But playtime is about to change. With AI already changing the ways we think, date, and work, the technological revolution is set to change another aspect of everyday life, the way children play.
Enter: AI-powered toys. Newsweek spoke to experts about the pros and cons of big AI in the littlest of hands.
The AI Toy Boom
Smart AI toys are currently valued at $34.87 billion, according to the research firm Market Research Future, which projects that the market valuation will reach $270 billion by 2035. China accounts for some 40 percent of that growth, as per a report from the Global Times.
And there are already thousands of AI toys and AI toy brands on the market. An October report from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Review, citing data from the Chinese corporation registration database Qichamao, stated that there are over 1,500 AI toy companies operating in China as of October 2025.
So, what do these toys do?
One example is FoloToy, A Chinese startup that allows parents to customize a bear, bunny, or cactus toy, and train it to speak with their own voice and speech pattern. Another is BubblePal, a Ping-Pong-sized ball that clips onto a child’s favourite toy and makes it “talk.” As per the MIT report, that toy is priced at $149, with 200,000 units having been sold since its launch in the summer of 2024. It runs on DeepSeek’s large language models.
BubblePal is already available in the U.S., having launched in December of 2024, and FoloToy is sold in over 10 countries, including the United States.
Newsweek has contacted Bubble Pal via social media message and FoloToy via an online contact form for comment.
But it’s not just China manufacturing the toys.
In June, Mattel and OpenAI announced a collaboration, which will see Mattel “bring the magic of AI to age-appropriate play experiences,” as per a press release issued at the time. Josh Silverman, chief franchise officer at Mattel, said in that press release, “Each of our products and experiences is designed to inspire fans, entertain audiences, and enrich lives through play. AI has the power to expand on that mission and broaden the reach of our brands in new and exciting ways.”
Exactly how these toys will look and when they will land on shelves, though, is unclear.
Quote:Former child actor and Disney star Calum Worthy is taking criticism after launching an app that allows users to conjure up interactive AI videos of deceased relatives.
Worthy, 34, announced the launch of 2wai with a video showing a woman recording her mother with the app. The video goes on to show how that recording can be turned into an interactive AI-powered presentation that will allow future relatives to talk to the woman’s mother long after she dies.
“What if the loved ones we’ve lost could be part of our future?” Worthy wrote on his X posting.
“With 2wai, three minutes can last forever,” the app maker promises.
Some X users, though, thought the app was somewhat dystopian. One even compared the app to the dark, sci fi TV series Black Mirror.
“This looks like the most disturbing episode of Black Mirror to date,” the user wrote. “Can’t wait!”
Another alarmed X commenter insisted the app was like “necromancy.”
“This is necromancy. It’s dark magic. It feels innocuous because it’s coming through a screen and not being conjured through potions, but it’s the exact same thing. You’re using the dead person’s essence as an undead servant, where they serve at your whim. They have no agency, no will of their own. The words they’re saying are not theirs, it’s a computer’s, meaning it’s your company’s version of them. You’re desecrating the memory of a loved one by turning them into a puppet, and the fact that you can’t see that this is wrong is telling,” he wrote.
Yet another cynical user imagined that it would not belong until “grandma” is turned into another way to deliver advertisements. “How long before Grandma starts telling us about new prescription drugs or the latest summer blockbuster?”
One user even thought the app cheapened life, writing, “If our loved ones can ‘live on’ as AI, doesn’t that cheapen life?”
But not every respondent on Worthy’s announcement opposed the app.
“I love it! These hypocrites spew all this moral superiority, telling us how we get to remember people we love, condemning anything they don’t understand as if they know what’s wrong, and yet when they DO look away from their phones, they watch porn, drink and drive, lie on their taxes and cheat on their spouses,” a user wrote.
Another insisted, “I’m not opposed. How is it different from passing a grandparent’s writings, photos, & lore down to the children, except now we have additional technology to do it with? Was there such a horrified reaction when cameras came out, so they could capture a moment in time forever?”
2wai also offers AI versions of famous historical personalities, including William Shakespeare, Florence Nightingale, King Henry VIII, and others. These are offered as a “real-time teaching assistants for a truly immersive learning experience,” according to Entertainment Weekly.
Worthy, who began his career as a child actor and at 20 starred as Dez on Disney Channel’s Austin & Ally, says, “Having worked as an actor, writer, and producer for the last 20 years, I experienced firsthand how challenging it is to create a meaningful relationship with fans around the world.”
“With the launch of 2wai, we’re enabling entirely new experiences that are as authentic as the HoloAvatars we create,” he claims.
Well, a writing is supposed to reflect a real person's thoughts, but an AI posing as a relative sounds more like cyber-necromancy
to me.
APPLE
Quote:Apple’s board and senior executives are ramping up preparations for CEO Tim Cook’s potential departure, with hardware engineering chief John Ternus emerging as the leading candidate to succeed him. Cook, famously nicknamed “Tim Apple” by President Donald Trump, could step down as early as next year.
The Financial Times reports that tech giant Apple is taking steps to ensure a smooth transition of leadership as longtime CEO Tim Cook nears the end of his tenure. According to several people familiar with internal discussions at the company, Apple’s board and top executives have recently intensified succession planning efforts, with the possibility of Cook stepping down as early as next year.
While no final decisions have been made, John Ternus, Apple’s senior vice-president of hardware engineering, has emerged as the most likely candidate to take the reins from Cook. Ternus, who has been with the company for over a decade, has played a crucial role in the development of Apple’s hardware products, including the iPhone, iPad, and Mac.
Sources close to Apple emphasize that the long-planned transition is not related to the company’s current performance, which is expected to be strong during the upcoming holiday sales period. The timing of any announcement regarding Cook’s successor is subject to change, but it is unlikely to occur before the company’s next earnings report in late January.
If Ternus is appointed as the new CEO, it would mark a return to Apple’s tradition of having a leader with a strong background in hardware engineering. This move comes at a time when the company has faced challenges in breaking into new product categories and keeping pace with its Silicon Valley rivals in the field of AI.
Tim Cook, who celebrated his 65th birthday this month, has led Apple since 2011, taking over from co-founder Steve Jobs just months before Jobs’ passing. Under Cook’s leadership, Apple’s market capitalization has soared from approximately $350 billion in 2011 to an astonishing $4 trillion today, cementing the company’s position as a tech industry powerhouse.
CHINA'S BOUNTIES
Quote:Police in Fujian province, China – the province closest to the nation of Taiwan – announced recently that it would offer bounties for information leading to the arrests of Taiwanese YouTuber Wen Tzu-yu, known as Pa Chiung, and rapper Chen Po-yuan, known as “Minnan Wolf.”
The two men face spurious charges of spreading “rhetoric advocating for resisting the Chinese mainland” and other “separatist acts.” Chinese law enforcement authorities disparaged the content creators, who have grown in online influence in Taiwan calling for opposition to communist influence, as “hitmen and accomplices of Taiwanese independence who exercise a malign influence.”
The Chinese state newspaper China Daily, in reporting on the bounty on Thursday, did not offer any accusations of actual crimes by the men involved, only accusations of “splitting the country and inciting national division.”
Chen Binhua, a spokesman for China’s “Taiwan Affairs Office,” similarly condemned the men as “malcontents… who must be severely punished to achieve the nation’s unification and rejuvenation.”
China falsely claims that Taiwan, a sovereign country that operates entirely independently from the Chinese Communist Party, is a “province” of China and that anyone who acknowledges the reality of Taiwan’s national status is a dangerous “separatist.” The escalation of criminal charges against foreigners for supporting their own countries follows a wave of growing violent rhetoric out of Beijing, including most alarmingly a Chinese consul-general in Japan threatening to behead Prime Minister Takaichi Sanae in a social media post.
Pa and Chen have long attracted the condemnation of Beijing for publishing content online against Chinese influence in Taiwan, including organizing protests against other influencers who have called for a Chinese takeover of the island nation. According to China Daily, police in China announced that “individuals providing relevant information that assists in the apprehension of the suspects could receive a reward ranging from 50,000 to 250,000 yuan ($6,880 to $34,400).”
China Daily noted that, while these were the most high-profile bounties Beijing is offering, Fujian province similarly issued another call in October for “clues on illegal activities of 18 core members of Taiwan military’s ‘psychological warfare unit,'” referring to the “illegal activities” as “disinformation” and “propaganda.” As one of the world’s most repressive regimes, China does not respect the right to freedom of expression of its citizens in any way and regularly imprisons and otherwise disappears individuals who express opinions diverging from the Communist Party’s stances.
Chen, the rapper known as “Minnan Wolf,” rose to prominent in Taiwan as a pro-communist influencer, sharing content calling for China to seize the nation of Taiwan. Previously disguised as a “little pink,” an online personality sharing Chinese communist propaganda, he made an abrupt turn against the regime and began exposing how the Chinese government pays and otherwise encourages “little pinks” to flood Taiwanese social media with communist content.
In December, Chen released a video alongside Pa Chieng in which the two exposed the activities of China’s United Front Work Department, the Communist Party office responsible for spreading communist propaganda around the world, to foster pro-Beijing sentiment. The two accused the United Front Work Department of paying influencers and encouraging pro-Beijing Taiwanese who had moved to China to return and infiltrate Taiwan’s political parties.
TESLA
Quote:Elon Musk’s Tesla will exclude China-made components from its cars manufactured in the United States. The move is designed to address escalating trade tensions and geopolitical risks
The Wall Street Journal reports that Elon Musk’s Tesla is taking decisive steps to reduce its reliance on Chinese suppliers for its U.S.-made vehicles. The company has mandated that its suppliers exclude China-made components in the manufacturing of Tesla cars in the United States, according to people familiar with the situation. This move comes as a response to the deepening geopolitical tensions between the U.S. and China.
The electric car maker has already started replacing some China-made components with parts manufactured elsewhere, in collaboration with its suppliers. Tesla aims to completely transition to non-Chinese components for its U.S. production within the next one to two years. This accelerated strategy was triggered by President Trump’s imposition of steep tariffs on Chinese imports, making it imperative for the company to minimize its exposure to the uncertainties of the U.S.-China trade war.
China has been a major producer and exporter of auto parts, including chips, batteries, and materials used in car manufacturing. The country’s massive production scale, lower costs, and weak currency have made Chinese components more affordable for automakers. However, the fluctuating tariff levels resulting from the trade dispute have made it challenging for Tesla to develop a consistent pricing strategy.
The recent geopolitical tensions between Washington and Beijing have further intensified Tesla’s urgency to pursue a China-free supply chain. Fresh disruptions in the supply of automotive chips, stemming from a dispute between China and the Netherlands, have prompted discussions within Tesla about the need to accelerate diversification efforts.
Tesla’s strategy to exclude China-made components is the latest example of how trade and geopolitical tensions are driving a decoupling of the world’s two largest economies and reshaping global supply chains. Many American companies are seeking to reduce their reliance on China-made components or manufacture outside of China for products destined for the U.S. market. Similarly, Chinese technology companies are removing American components and technology from their supply chains.
TIKTOK
Quote:The White House TikTok page saw rapid growth during the Democrats’ government shutdown, gaining almost 1 million new followers and racking up 170 million views, Breitbart News has learned.
Among other content, the White House account consistently posted humorous TikToks hammering Democrats for the shutdown, particularly on Democrats’ efforts to reverse a provision in the One Big Beautiful Bill that nixed taxpayer-funded healthcare benefits for illegal aliens and noncitizens.

Democrats ultimately caved, failing to secure benefits for noncitizens and illegal aliens, as well as an extension of COVID-era Obamacare subsidies that expire at the end of the year.
According to data from a White House official, the White House TikTok page garnered almost 1 million new followers during the shutdown from October 1-November 12, in addition to 14 million likes, 170 million views, and 6.3 million new viewers.
The high engagement rates and quick growth demonstrate the White House’s knack for creating and disseminating entertaining and shareable content — ranging from content blasting Democrats to highlighting President Donald Trump’s day-to-day activities and policy moves.
What is more, the account is connecting with younger audiences in particular, as users aged 18-34 account for more than 60 percent of its audience.
In one viral video, the White House used clips from the hit NBC shows The Office and Parks and Recreation, as well as classic films like The Princess Bride, My Cousin Vinny, Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy, Mean Girls, and more. The caption to the video reads, “Democrats are making this WAY harder than it has to be. Open the government,” a reference to a quote from The Office character Michael Scott featured in the TikTok.

Another funny shutdown video featured a clip from Fox’s Arrested Development, in which one character represents illegal aliens and the other character, played by Henry Winkler, represents Democrats.

“I have done nothing wrong ever in my life,” the illegal alien-branded female character states, to which Winkler’s character says, “I know this and I love.”
“I love you too, Daddy. Money, please!” she responds with a hand open, and Winkler’s character quickly fills it with cash.
Non-shutdown-related content also performed well on the platform. One video of Trump arriving in Malaysia had 8.6 million views and almost 730,000 likes at the time of press. It featured Trump performing his signature dance with a new twist, as Kid Cudi’s song Maui Wowie serves as the audio.
