Its called minimalist design.
Simple and Recognizable words and patterns are ussualy easier to remember or sell.
Thats why the Beatles are so easy to remember,While an actor(having a name not always easy to remember) can slip your mind.
Just the other day I forgot One of my favorite actors name.
Design takes this principle and uses it for its advantage.
Take the cover art for Daft Punks first album,Homework
Its just their name,Designed to look like it was a patch on someone jacket.
Easily recognizable in the 80s and 90s.
