i'm using the rtp as a guide so my tiles aren't totally whacked looking, and i do it right. i'm drawing over them in illustrator, changing them as i see fit, before depositing them onto photoshop for export. illustrator's workable area is smaller than the ultimate rtp tileset's height... RTP looks like it should, it just has no personality or character, it's too plain. doing it this way allows me to make the game more cartoonish, which allows me to still be a graphics snob while not coming off as immature or douchey. i'm taking the shadows by the buildings out all together since they look too disjointed. the grass tile itself took over an hour, and the big tree took almost 4 hours because of having to figure out how to make all the layers come together to resemble something that actually looked like what i was basing it off of.
