Hello! I'm Tsuchi and i'm fantastically bad at making video games, lol. Been lurking this site for quite a while and i figured now's as good a time as any to actually get involved. I love RPG Maker XP (despite being so poor at it) and i'm glad there's still a community for it : )
I'm mainly an artist/animator as well as a composer, but my real weakness is scripting. I'm so bad at it but that's why i'm here lmao

Well, we learn by doing. Easier to get information that is stored away in a website than in a Discord. Both have their strengths and weaknesses. Discord is fast at communicating. But that speed also means remarks and statements get pushed afar from all the conversation.
I'm sure you will find stuff on scripting. One member had requested a primer of sorts in an easier-to-understand format. But even so, the history of the RM line began with engines that had no scripting capabilities. So the real power is in events, for they exist in the realm the player navigates.
By chance, how are you at pixelart? And do you have any projects in the works?

(gonna attach images to this so it might be a super long post lol)
Pixel art, i'm no prodigy but i'd say i'm pretty good at it. I have more practice doing standard art (digital though). Some recent stuff below:
(Wester, from my game.)
(Aristocrat, also from my game.)
I in fact am working on a project at the moment! My only solo project is a game in rpg maker XP that i've been working on for a while now, though it's still got a ways to go.
Here's some screenshots (some graphics are still placeholders):
You can see my shoddy pixel art skills in the screenshots too, lol

This game is more promising than over half of the underbaked slop that comes out of the engine these days so you're doing just fine!
Maybe it's not the best pixel art but its YOUR OWN PIXEL ART and that degree custom work makes your game look truly unique amongst all these rtp shilling monstrositires. it's a refreshing and colorful twist. If you'd shown me this I'd have no idea what engine it was made in due to it being visually distinct and consistent.
keep doing stuff like this and you'll be well ahead of the majority of the chaff very quickly.
