RMXP is missing one mapping layer that would make it perfect. Why waste an event on a tile unless it's made for something important? There's been too many times I've had to waste an event on something like a tree shadow.

Yin Wrote:Hey, I was wondering would this work on Windows 7 because that's what I am using and the program won't start. It just says RPG Inventor has stopped working. I've tried it in compatibility mode too.I really dont know what is required for it to work on Windows 7, I have only posted up links to fixes for the XP version. I think you may have to wait, as far as I know XNA gaming has not been integrated with Windows 7(yet), so unfortunately until microsft sorts that problem out, no XNA game will work on it I am aware abbout the buttons, sorry i used someone elses graphics, just so i had an actual menu for people to use, i am hoping someone will do some awesome work for my inteface graphics, if anyone wants to try let me know and i will fill you in on all you need to know FreakOfNature Wrote:In my opinion 3 layers are perfect, as you can already use events to add whatever little thing you missed.ok i will put in a walking preview just for you lol, and for battle sprites i will put in a preview as well seriously i am sure lots of people will want this, thanks for the idea:cheery: FreakOfNature Wrote:Yeah i noticed for the video that it was choppy when the character moved. which video, the none on my website or the one here?? anyway in both cases running the recording sofware does slow it down quite a bit, although as i have said this is not the fastest program in the world, and it also depends what you use(computer hardware wise), when you are in game (testing) alone without the editor being on it runs at an acceptable fps (just lol) Alpha-Mad Wrote:Will be trying this out (if my computer can take it). Can you use any tileset on the same map? That would be cool! Anyway, I'm glad someone is trying to fix the problems with the program, should be interesting to see what you have. ooh sorry i missed that, Yes you certainly can use different tile sets on each map, you are not even limited by auto tiles, it will save you lots of time (in combining sheets) lol

I seem to be having troubles with the maker, i was able to start editing a map with the regular rtp but here's how it went.
I placed some trees at random, placing some in front of others so afterward i would return and add the rest of the pieces using the third layer and event layer, before that i placed the character starting point because i ran into it. After doing this however i could not return to the map building again, it seems to me that the map building functions just froze up, no way to keep building. Test game wont work at this point either, loads but nothing happens.

Alrighty! I will let you know if i have any other probs ^^
Out of curiosity (doesn't matter to me one way or the other), how many people do you have working on each area (pixel, programing etc..) for this maker? E- Same probs pretty much. I cannot set tile pieces through events. I set the character (only want one) and starting party but the test game crashes before it loads. "RPG player has encountered a problem and needs to close" e- On the character area (resource database), there is no okay or cancel button, this means that exiting out the page just saves right? I will check out the user guide later on, could be i'm missing something and i'm giving you a headache for no reason. ** E- I'm now looking to work on a Run Time Package for an upcoming Maker, i can make tilesets, characters, templates, and icons. I'm going to check the user guide to see if i missed something but if not i will wait until you guys release another version first and then i may join you. I'm no badass spriter but i'm no pushover, i deleted most of my resources a long time ago to start fresh though.., i still have my best outer tileset which i created for RMXP some time ago, i can pm you that for testing purposes if you like ^^

FreakOfNature Wrote:Alrighty! I will let you know if i have any other probs ^^ at the moment programming wise there is just me, graphic wise i have a contract with just one artist and it's a pay per task if you know what i mean, because I am funding this project out of my own pocket at the moment, I hope to be able to hire more artists later, it just depends how much they want paying. however if anyone wants to volunteer their services then i will give them a free copy of the program when it is finished As for setting tile pieces you should be able to return to that mode by clicking on one of the first 3 layers (as long as the rpg player shut, because the program is clever and is frozen while testing is in progress, this helps stop any nasty bugs occuring during testing of your game) Just checking you have the following present before testing:
I have a funny feeling the character has no character set which is what is causing the problem as i did not include it in my error testing code, which is why the program crashed To set the character set sprite up, go into edit characters, select your character, and click on the button within the character set box, this will allow you to setup which character set you wish to use ok. (I did not include it in my guide woops) Your character should look something like this if it is right Content Hidden Other than that are you experiencing any speed problems (fps wise??)

Yup i did this before testing the game jneul.
I think i've only felt a little lag/slowdown when scrolling up and down the tileset to choose a piece to set. E-Do you have a forum set up?

FreakOfNature Wrote:Yup i did this before testing the game jneul. hmmm thats weird, it should work then if you have your party set up the lag with the tile set is perfectly normal as it is dynamically loading the correct area of the image to the tile set (as in xna you are limited to a certain texture width and height dependant on resolution and graphical capabilites) i have fixed that issue now so that it only caches when needed (i.e. the image is bigger than the allowed size) can you confirm does your party look something like this (sorry if i am being a pain) Content Hidden E- No forum yet, just lots of different sites what i have used to post info about RPG Inventor, I may get my friend to put one together for me as I am too busy at the mo lol

Yup, exactly what i did, strange yeah.
E- Well if you want you can use this tileset to show off your maker anyway, it may get more people interested if you don't use the RMXP rtp. Found the old links for it, here's a screenshot taken of it in action. http://img525.imageshack.us/my.php?image...setdd7.png And the tileset. http://img158.imageshack.us/my.php?image...s01da7.png |
