About my battlers, Some help on an easier way

Hope this is in the right spot.
I'm looking for an easier way to do my battlers. Right now, I draw each and every frame, then I put them in Illustrator to trace and color, then I put them in photoshop for shading. It's time consuming, but the results are rewarding. Is there an easier or faster way? I've tried inking, but my scanner doesn't really care what's black and what's white. I've tried live trace, but it's always missing lines.

whether its a paint program or a Adobe image editing/drawing program, if you feel that your faster in accomplishing things when using that program then improve skill in it...

Photoshop is good for editing images while Illustrator is good in drawing images.
