Windows 10

Wow, thanks for that!
I've been looking at a MSI Motherboard for a while now, and it would've been bad if I had gotten it and upgraded to Windows 10 without knowing!
Certainly helpful for others who haven't upgraded as well  Happy

Currently i have a Z97 Gaming 5 and I love it. I dont love the fact that it has too many PCIe x1 slots but other than that its I have no complaints. Everything with it worked perfect since day one. Going strong for a year now and I tested it with Windows XP, 7, 8, 8.1 and now 10 I also used it with eLementary OS and Mac OSX ( dont ask lol) and it worked great.

Going back to windows 10. Theres a few tools on the web that help any user disable a lot of the "spy" features that windows 10 has turned On by default, like your camera and mic, . . . DoNotSpy and ShutUp 10 are two of them, in case that anyone would like to look into them. I cant post anything more in depth about them because I havent test them. I kinda turned off/disable features on my own.

I was looking at this motherboard:
MSI Motherboard

And back to Windows 10, I took a close look at some settings a few days ago, and they did do some sneaky things that I can't even remember right now.
Reading settings closely is a must when using Windows 10. Microsoft should be more straightforward about these things  Confused

After playing Resident Evil 5, I noticed some MAJOR fps loss when starting a recording.
I took the fps limiter off when doing the game's own benchmarking, and here are the results on Medium overall quality with everything else at Low.

Before recording: 62-68fps
During recording: 24-31fps

The difference is pretty drastic, and is very noticeable.
Either Intel's Quicksync isn't any better yet with OBS, or the game itself uses Quicksync to play at good speeds and two applications using Quicksync don't work well.
Whatever the case, the recording doesn't skip a single frame, despite having constant "High CPU Usage" messages. The game looked beautiful in the finished product, despite those warnings and the low fps, which makes me happy that someday I'll be able to do a playthrough of it.  Happy

I did get an update for Intel recently, but the update provided the same fps results, which could indicate a stronger argument for Resident Evil 5 using Intel Quicksync to play.
My other games are working better now, and Silent Hill 2 can now record at 56-59fps instead of the 50-55fps I was getting before. This is a significant improvement, so I'm hoping that they continue to improve things.

Speaking of which, I haven't gotten any  new updates in over a week. Usually it's at least 1 a week, so there may be one incoming.
I really hope so, because Windows 10 has treated me well so far, despite giving me my first bluescreen crash  Laughing

By the way, does anyone know where the crash logs are? I want to take a peek at what happened so I can avoid it again. It happened last when I was uploading a video, so I really am curious.  Confused

Thats a very good motherboard but if youre going with MSI I suggest you reconsider. Dont get me wrong, that motherboard is very solid, pretty much like mine, but it lacks some of the newer features.

Some features that the gaming 5 has over the G45
Support for higher clock speed ram - 200mhz actually if Im not mistaking, going of my mind
Support for M.2 drives - very expensive at the moment but they are really good
More phases
Better for overclocking
Support for SLI

Other thing is, if you live close to a Microcenter, you can get the CPU/Mobo combo and you will receive a huge discount. I did this and the Motherboard was $100

About your Logs:
C:\Windows\Logs this folder has just that logs
C:\Windows\Minidumb this one has a lot of dmp files created every time you get a BSOD, RSOD or GSOD. You can use http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/blue_screen_view.html to open the files and see what triggered the crash.

We might have to make a thread just for windows troubleshooting lol

I haven't gotten my updates in about a week, usually for me it happens on Sunday evenings. If I don't get it by tomorrow morning, I'll be sure to let you know  Confused

I have read a few things, though:

1 - An update to Windows 10 last month is what caused my laptop to get the bluescreen crash. Lots of people had it, including my brother. Unfortunately for him, his laptop doesn't even turn on anymore. He had all of his RMXP game data on there, and his backup is about 3 weeks old, so he lost a lot. He's currently in the process of getting his data from the laptop, or even just getting it to turn on, but so far I haven't heard anything.

2 - There's supposed to be a "Huge" update for Windows 10 coming in November. It's supposed to change a bunch of things, and they claim it'll make things faster and more safe, among other things... though that's what they always claim, and yet they always have to make them "Safer" after their latest updates :I

3 - My games haven't had much fps gains lately, and Intel Quicksync still doesn't work on OBS very well. I record the games I need to, but it's annoying to see 15-30fps drop in a second once I hit record  Indifferent

So I noticed a few things. If you have disabled getting updates from PCs on the internet it will change the priority of the updates to Low. I changed mine back to normal and it started updating.

I JUST got my Windows 10 updates 10 minutes ago. They were later than usual, but they still came.  Happy

I'm not so sure it has much to do with the update delivery settings as much as the version of Windows 10 you have.
I have Home version, and I believe you mentioned you had Pro version? A friend of mine got their updates as I was typing this, and they use the Home version as well.

Either way, updates are still around, so that's good.  Blushing + Cheery
