Taiwan charges Chinese captain over killing of Somali pirates

Prosecutors in Taiwan have charged the captain of a fishing boat with ordering the killing of four suspected Somali pirates eight years ago.
The four were shot dead in the Indian Ocean in September 2012.
The killings came to light after mobile phone footage of the incident was posted online.
Prosecutors say the suspect, a Chinese national, admitted ordering the killings while captaining the Taiwanese vessel.

Well, we all know how difficult it's been for Taiwanese to deal with Chinese tantrums on a daily basis.
Now Taiwanese prosecutors charged a Chinese national with killing pirates in the Indian Ocean.

Why would they care so much about some  pirates?

Despite knowing the men had no way of defending themselves at this point, the suspect told officials he ordered his Pakistani security guards to shoot them so that they could not get away and ask other pirates to hijack his vessel, prosecutors said.
The suspect has been indicted on homicide and gun control charges, according to local media reports.
The killings were exposed after a mobile phone containing footage of the incident was left in a taxi in Fiji, and found by someone who posted the video on YouTube in 2014.

So they weren't armed any longer, and Pakistani guards shot them down.
What I couldn't finish to understand is how there's always somebody recording such events. In this case they used a cellphone...

Nuclear arms treaty: Hopes rise for breakthrough on US-Russia deal

There is hope that the last remaining nuclear arms pact between the US and Russia can be extended after Washington said it wanted to immediately finalise an agreement.
The New Start treaty, signed in 2010, limits the number of long-range nuclear warheads that each side can possess.
A statement from Russia on Tuesday said it was proposing to extend New Start - which expires in February - by one year, with both countries making a commitment to "freeze" the number of warheads held over that period.
In Washington, the US state department welcomed the fresh offer, saying it appreciated Russia's "willingness to make progress on the issue of nuclear arms control".

I don't mind if they manage to extend it but it's hard to imagine how both countries would let their counterparts supervise their arsenals.

Robert Redford: Retired actor mourns the death of his son James aged 58

She told the Salt Lake Tribune that James had discovered the cancer diagnosis late last year while awaiting a liver transplant.
Activist and filmmaker James Redford died on Friday after being diagnosed with liver cancer, his wife Kyle confirmed via Twitter.
His liver disease had returned two years ago, she added.

So far Robert Redford refused to speak on this issue for it had hit his family really hard. By the way, Robert also has another three children, including Amy Redford, an actress.

GLOBAL OUTRAGE: SECURITY FORCES SHOOT AND KILL PROTESTERS IN NIGERIA

Amnesty International said in a news release Wednesday that its investigation found 12 protesters had been killed by Nigerian security forces Tuesday in Lekki and Alausa, another part of Lagos.

The protests were in part to eliminate a so-called 'special police' squad formed decades before, one with a reputation involving rape, torture and murder by lynching. The military claims that reports are "Fake News", but video footage is present and both human rights groups and the head of the United Nations dispute the claims.

Said eMails contains a threat if they do not vote for Trump, a tactic to cause distress. Other content sent by both attempts to create unrest in the U.S. election.

US sanctions Russia for Trisis Malware

The U.S. Treasury Department sanctioned a Russian government research institute on Friday that it said was connected to the strain of destructive malware frequently labeled the most dangerous in the world.
Known as Trisis or Triton, the malicious software is designed to target systems used to safely control emergency shutdowns of industrial plants. Last year, security researchers at Dragos determined that the hackers behind the tool had scanned the networks of U.S. electrical utilities, after the malware initially surfaced in 2017 at a Saudi petrochemical plant.
Treasury pinned blame on the State Research Center of the Russian Federation FGUP Central Scientific Research Institute of Chemistry and Mechanics (TsNIIKhM) for supporting the 2017 attack in the Middle East. FireEye researchers had previously linked the research institution to the hacking group that deployed Trisis.
Trisis is unique among malware in its risk to human safety at energy plants, according to Robert M. Lee, chief executive of industrial security company Dragos.

It's not the very first time US has blamed a foreign government for being involved in hacking industry networks. Still, this time we can't really foresee how Moscow will react to US sanctions. Keep in mind both governments seem to agree on the need to extend a nuclear weapons agreement but everything could change after this event...

In an unusual order posted Friday, the federal judge in the case of former Trump national security adviser Michael Flynn told the Justice Department to file a declaration -- under penalty of perjury -- by Monday that evidence in the case is “true and correct.”
The court order was issued after prosecutors admitted accidentally altered documents -- notes written by former FBI agent Peter Strzok and former FBI deputy director Andrew McCabe -- were used.
“The government has acknowledged that altered FBI records have been produced by the government and filed on the record in this case,” noted Judge Emmet Sullivan
The order from Sullivan comes as the government again requested the judge dismiss the criminal case against Flynn, a move Sullivan has so far resisted.

Well, since a former prosecutor provided the court with fake evidence, it sounds logical to demand a confirmation that backs up the current DOJ's claim. Even so Judge Sullivan has been a real pain in the... He could overstepping his own authority by demanding extra procedures that are uncommon in the judiciary system.

Libya has been riven by violence since Col Muammar Gaddafi was deposed by Nato-backed forces in 2011.

The expectation is that the majority will say "yes" to creating something new.

One of the problems here is that the communist parties in Chile have been trying to reach as many workers as they can to make them vote for a new constitution and choose all of the representatives partaking in crafting it. If they succeed, being a businessman in Chile won't be the same ever again. Recall how much communists love to duplicate institutions and increase taxes, claiming they'll benefit the masses, even if the leader's pockets grow larger and larger at the same time.

You see, Arab nations wanted to organize boycotts to prevent people from purchasing French products. Some of them were removed from shops in Kuwait, Jordan and Qatar.

Meanwhile, protests have been seen in Libya, Syria and the Gaza Strip.
The backlash stems from comments made by Mr Macron after the gruesome murder of a French teacher who showed cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad in class.

If you were French and were living in an Arab nation, then you'd not criticize Islamic stuff at any time. Many people do believe in imposing sharia to pretty much anybody else. It's another story if you're living in Europe or North America or even Latin America. Why should we watch for attackers after mocking Muhammad or the Koran? Tony Chung had planned to enter the consulate on Tuesday and claim asylum, the UK-based activist group Friends of Hong Kong said.

Mr Chung, 19, was the first public figure arrested under a controversial new national security law in July.

Rapper Brian Trotter found dead in car after Florida highway crash

US police have found the body of an aspiring rapper in the boot of a car after a crash on a highway in Miami.
Florida Highway Patrol officers discovered the body of 25-year-old hip-hop artist Brian Trotter after being called to the site of the collision.
The driver, 25-year-old Robert Deupree Avery Coltrain, has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder and illegal transport of human remains.
An autopsy showed Trotter was fatally shot multiple times.

I think having balance is valuable, and we try to do that. I am not aware of the example of you say of someone in charge of this process who worked for Biden in the past, so we can follow up on that.

Atlantic Council senior fellow Anna Makanju's bio lists her as both a public policy and legal expert at Facebook "where she leads efforts to ensure election integrity on the platform" and a former special policy adviser for Europe and Eurasia to Biden. Facebook partnered with the Atlantic Council ahead of the 2018 election to "boost its election security efforts," the Washington Examiner reported.

So what can you expect from Facebook if they hire an expert that worked for Biden and partners with a company she worked for? Oh and there's a serious possibility that both the expert and the company are behind all these weird moves they've made in the last year to harm the GOP. They couldn't name any Facebook official that didn't support Biden or Democrats that could keep their security efforts balanced.

Category 1 Hurricane Zeta expected to hit Louisiana

The National Hurricane Center (NHC) said that Zeta is packing maximum sustained winds of 100 mph and is located about 155 miles south-southwest of New Orleans, moving north-northeast at 20 mph. The latest advisory from the NHC notes that an Air Force "Hurricane Hunter" aircraft finds that Zeta is growing stronger hours before landfall.

Zeta is getting stronger and we are anticipating a Category 2, a strong Category 2 moving into eastern Louisiana and western Mississippi later on this afternoon," Fox News senior  said on "Fox & Friends." "National Hurricane Center has found winds much stronger than originally anticipated."

This storm won't only affect Louisiana the NHC has warned.

The system is now expected to make landfall as a strong Category 2 storm south of New Orleans, which will bring life-threatening storm surge, flooding rainfall, damaging winds, and isolated tornadoes. The dangers will also spread inland, as dangerous winds will reach across the Southeast. 
"Wind gusts could be especially severe across the southern Appalachian Mountains on Thursday," the NHC said

The man who stabbed two women and a man to death in a church in France arrived from Tunisia days ago, officials say.
The suspect, 21, had an Italian Red Cross document, issued after he arrived by a migrant boat to Italy's Lampedusa island last month. He was shot by police and is in a critical condition.
One of the victims of Thursday's attack at the Notre-Dame basilica in the city of Nice was "virtually beheaded".
President Emmanuel Macron said it was an "Islamist terrorist attack".
Mr Macron said the number of soldiers being deployed to protect public places - such as churches and schools - would rise from 3,000 to 7,000. The country's security alert has been raised to the highest level.

Just in case you ever thought that was all this terrorist had planned to do against French people, let me tell you that you're totally wrong!  

A Koran, two telephones and a 30cm (12-inch) knife were found on the attacker.
We also found a bag left by the attacker. Next to this bag were two knives that were not used in the attack.

A man was shot dead in Montfavet near the southern French city of Avignon after threatening police with a handgun.
A guard was attacked outside the French consulate in Jeddah in Saudi Arabia. A suspect was arrested and the guard taken to hospital.

Twitter took action against a message from the former Prime Minister of Malaysia, Dr. Mahathir Mohamad, on Thursday that declared, “Muslims have a right to be angry and to kill millions of French people for the massacres of the past.”
The post violated Twitter's glorification of violence policy, which requires the violator to remove the tweet before they’re able to tweet from the account again.

No politician should ever become this extremist, especially those that have millions of followers like this former PM currently has.

Trooper Dane Pfeiffer, 35, met Cara Kennedy-Cuomo, 25, through his job as one of her dad’s bodyguards, sources said.
Pfeiffer’s relationship with Kennedy-Cuomo mandated his removal from her dad’s protective detail due to “the protocol of dignitary protection,” according to a law enforcement source familiar with the matter.

Well, you see, Google can easily let you access a news article's content without necessarily leading you to the medium's website because, err, you've already read the heading and the short description. Even so they also claim that Google and other companies should pay the local newspapers for their contents. Google's terms and conditions don't let them benefit from Google's use of their data, plus its AMP system for mobile devices deprives them of customer data and hurts subscription rates.
Google fully disregarded those claims.

Citing multiple Wall Street Journal articles on the topic, the report notes that while Facebook has made deals to pay license fees to some publishers, they only cover about a quarter of the local news services whose content Facebook displays in its news tab.

On August 30, 2019, Facebook notified Lila Rose, the president of the pro-life group Live Action, that an independent fact-checker had rated two of her group’s videos as “false.” Facebook said it would therefore suppress the videos and notify all users who shared the videos that they had shared “false news.”
 The videos suppressed by Facebook claimed that “abortion is never medically necessary” — a claim that two pro-abortion activists said had been labeled as “false” by a group called “Science Feedback.”
After The American Association of Pro-Life Obstetricians and Gynecologists came to Live Action’s defense, writing that fact-checkers “are in error to claim that elective abortion is medically necessary to save the life of the mother,” Facebook removed the “false” label from the videos and stopped suppressing their distribution.

Yes, Facebook does hate conservative organizations. They automatically tag their feeds as false without conducting a proper research first. Nope, this isn't an exception at all.  

Just last month, Facebook banned pro-life ads from Susan B. Anthony List exposing former Vice President Joe Biden’s support for late-term abortion, this time relying on a “fact-check” from The Dispatch, a self-appointed fact-check organization. The Dispatch eventually retracted its fact-check, admitting it was completely wrong, and Facebook then reinstated the ads.

And the suppression of conservative ideas is continuing right through to Election Day. Just this week, Twitter suspended U.S. Customs and Border Protection Commissioner Mark Morgan for 20 hours for updating the American people on the construction of the southern border wall. The moderators at Twitter said the tweet violated their rules regulating “hateful conduct.” This is completely unacceptable. Fortunately, Morgan announced in a tweet Thursday night that Twitter had unlocked his account.

So according to Twitter's initial posture, the American people isn't entitled to learn about how advanced the construction of the border wall is. Unbelievable!

Orthodox Priest Shot in Lyon, France

The shooting in Lyon happened at about 16:00 local time (15:00 GMT) on Saturday when the priest was closing his church, officials said.
The attacker, who police said was armed with a sawn-off shotgun, fled the scene.
In a statement on Saturday night, Lyon's public prosecutor, Nicolas Jacquet, said "a person who could correspond to the description given by the initial witnesses has been placed in police custody".
He added that the suspect had not been carrying a weapon at the time of his arrest. Investigators are trying to determine his identity.
The priest has been identified as Nikolas Kakavelakis. He is in hospital and is reported to be in a serious condition.

Niger: American hostage rescued by US special forces

An American hostage kidnapped in Niger earlier this week has been freed in a raid by US special forces, the Pentagon has announced.
He was taken across the border into Nigeria and rescued on Saturday.
Jihadist and criminal groups are known to operate in the area. It's thought at least six hostages are currently being held captive in the Sahel area.
Mr Walton was abducted from the village of Massalata, where he had been living with his wife and child for two years, his father told AFP news agency.
Locals said six men armed with AK47s arrived in the village on motorbikes.

Well, it's good to hear that the special forces managed to extract the victim from there.
