i gotta start over. there's no xp resources anymore, and the character maker i have doesn't export properly for some reason.

Not exactly true, green mantis. There's Kokoro Reflections out there that offers 32px and 48px tilesets. Yeah, the resources are automatically compatible with VX ACE and MV (and MZ with caveats AFAIK) but XP doesn't stop you from mixing tilesets. Of course, you'll have to manually edit your resources to make them fit the XP formats but you should be used to it after making such large maps for years! Just take a look at my dungeon screenshots with a  custom dark tileset and XP's default lava autotile.
