I'd like to preface this with an apology: I am a complete noob at this sort of forum stuff and I don't know if I'm doing this properly. I was on the rpg maker web forums several years ago as I needed help with script finding and a bit of light coding. As that forum is now shutting down, and will no longer be accessible, as someone who's actively been developing games with RPG maker VX Ace for over a decade now it's been devastating to say the least. While I haven't officially published any of the games I've made, it's mostly a thing between me and my friends for our own group enjoyment with our OCs and interests. Very much a hobbyist but deeply passionate about specifically RPG Maker VX Ace.  Laughing Laughing Laughing

My main reason for making an account, I can't lie, is the archive that the site has of many VX Ace scripts I have just not been able to find anywhere else. Examples such as a big portion of Tsukihime's scripts which I long thought had become lost media as even from her site sadly links to the now defunct rpgmakervxace dot net forums, with the wayback machine not actually archiving the scripts themselves.

My friends are normally the more artistic types doing the sprite sheets, and tilesets... I'm more the guy who sort of events everything and actually makes it playable lol. I try to do most things via eventing even if it looks super messy (WE LOVE ENDLESS CONDITIONAL BRANCHES AND COMMON EVENTS!!!) but sometimes you just have an idea you know is probably possible via a script and you just search everywhere for it for hours and then you hit a dead end and it's just like noooo we'll have to shelve it... Cry

Sorry I've rambled a lot, but yeah, I dunno this seems like a cool place and I like the funny square emojis  Grinning

HOWUUU!!!!!   (Translation from Lycan:  Ribbit!)

Coming here because of a forum closing?  Well, you might notice that we have a FEW archives of lost sites.  So some script you needed and had lost track may very well be here.  I really need to make a better resource index thread.  *grumble*

Tsukihime's scripts?  Yeah, fun tracking down.  I plan to re-create other lost private sites like I did with GameBaker.  But that will take time.  Currently RMRKing while I let another group work on RMWebs (for now).

So you are an eventer and mapper.  Respect.  Prior to RPGMaker XP, all custom systems and tricks were done with eventing. So never let anyone say you have no codiing skills when eventing is a phyisically visual,  non-software based form of coding. I've seen menu systems with gorgeous graphics, ABS (Zelda battle) and even a replica of a FFVI sideview battle system done with eventing.  Eventing is the heart of game dev engines for it is where all the actions take place.

So, what type of game or games are you interested in developing?  And do you have one in the works?

Ah, and the original 'bread' emoji design is courtesy of EJLol, and has expanded greatly by 300% by kyonides... including  Frog

Thank you for the wonderful warm welcome! Many frog croaks to you too!

And yes actually! I commend you and your team tremendously for the archiving work as you actually did have a lot of the scripts I thought may well have been gone forever. A lot of Tsukihime's smaller scripts spin offs for the effects manager, some of Crystal's scripts, and Liquid Pencil's dart throw script. Recreating lost private sites would be incredible considering how so many forum posts from 2014 or so now redirect to dead links that have sadly been acquired by gambling sites. It's a difficult endevour but I think for the community at whole of people who love creating things in these engines, it would be a wonderful effort!

When I was much younger RPG maker 2k3 was what people used and there was no scripting there. Eventing has laid the ground work for a lot of projects because it shows that you don't have to be know how to 'code' in the typical sense to make a good game. You only really need to turn to look at Yume Nikki and Off with the cultural impacts they have had. A lot of it (at least to me) is like fake it 'til you make it - it can be very powerful to do when combined with pictures. You no longer become restrained to things like the UI of the engine. One of my friends doesn't use tilesets in his game at all because all the scenery is just done through parallaxes with the collison also just all being eventing based. I think one of the most impressive things I've seen someone else do with eventing is that they managed to make Five Nights at Freddy's in RPG maker VX Ace  - it was near entirely done through eventing throughout just 3 maps.

I actually have a few games in the works right now but the main one I'm working on with a friend is a 2D sidescrolling RPG (think like LISA the Painful or Underhero) using their characters. We're making good progress on it and now even moreso because YIPPEE THE SCRIPTS WE WERE LOOKING FOR ARE HERE!!! I think one thing one has to be careful of with eventing is just too many on screen can cause lag and sometimes it's a little janky, so plug and play scripts that exist to do something in a less roundabout way are always a useful thing. I have a question though, and sorry if this is a silly one: Back when I was on the rpg maker web forum there were boards for script requests. I used to like browsing that a lot cos sometimes you'd come across very niche but cool scriplettes that are made in response, or someone manages to find a script that fits what the person wants. Is there a similar sort of navigation for such here at Save Point?

These entire catalogue of the Bread emojis are the Bomb they're just so good, bless EJLol and kyonides for making them Blushing + Cheery

Ah, yes. Sites that have either vanished with the domain name now up for sale at an unreasonable price, or taken by gambling sites of ... mostly the same country from all the ones I've hit. Ugh. You have to really dig to get the material then. And even so, tricky if the site had issues with infections. Alas, that too is something I had encountered... sites that were the sole location for X and only for it to be too dangerous to approach.

You inquired about requests. The philosophy on archiving is to acquire as much of the actual resources as possible, though this also means that discussions and lighter fare is ignored. Also ignored in archiving are the request boards and the 'Work-In-Progress" boards as it is assumed that the request itself fulfilled would result in a script, plugin or event system and that one working on an incomplete project may not find their way here.

However, our board does have our own support centers. If you look at the main "Games Development" board, there are forums within for General Support and Code support. However, those are channels are for issues with their engines, talks about issues that have arisen, or problems that may arise with two or more conflicting systems. For other considerations, you would look to the main "Material Development" board and the subforums for either the "Scripts Database" or "Plugins and Mods" forums. There, you would expect to find actual requests for specific works to be made.

... expect to find.... not always. Tongue sticking out
