Windows 10

Windows 10 was advertised as the DEFINITIVE version - I think they will now consider it a service and not a product. This means Windows 10 will never stop changing and they will consistently add features etc.

@Lani, youre probably right with a few other details here or there. Maybe version and region based ?
@Metal, as I understand it, that is what microsoft is aiming for. Windows as a service. I do know that they have a service "version" on which you pay for it annually. This will pretty much turn it like the update/upgrade platform that apple has with OSX.

Guys, you wanna hear a good one?

What you don't know Guar, but Lani and Metal does, is that I have a dialup phone-line connection. Go ahead and laugh... but, hey... it works.

But what is interesting is that the moment the whole 'Get Windows 10' icon appeared, it appeared my internet was slowed down... BADLY. You may not have noticed it, but I did. I guess the programs (GXW.Exe and related) were re-connecting and staying connected while I was online and was causing a drain on my bandwidth. Yeah, that damnable update requesting program just had to go.

It wouldn't be enough to hide it by turning off the icon's notification. I had to remove it altogether. So I did a little research and found I could disable it all-the-way by adding a key within the Windows Registry using RegEdit.

I created the "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Gwx" entry in the registry. You can do that if you don't have this entry already available in your Registry. After that, I added a DisableGWX key to that entry. If it asks for 32-bit DWord or 64-bit DWord, check what kind of System you had first. Few Windows 7 OS are 32bit. And once I made the DisableGWX key, I set that key to a value of 1 (one). This disables the GWX system altogether.

GWX: Acronym for 'Get Windows 10'

Apparently something you need when dealing with a fresh and untried OS.

As far as dial up goes, I can tell you that the US government are still using VPN servers and through dial up. You will think they would be full of hi-tech but no. Anyways thats another story

True story too.

You may wanna check this out if your updates are saying 'nope... not installing this':

I encountered the issue myself, and the sfc /scannow command it suggested did the trick for me.

On a bright note for Windows 10, I sure am enjoying the Data Usage panel in the internet settings section.
I asked my ISP if it was accurate, and they said it was off by .5GB, but still accurate enough.

250GB is my cap, and I'm using about 85-100GB a month, which is a good thing. Nowhere near my cap! Happy
