Kinda bored at work. Spent a little time poking around and saw a WIKI about RPGMaker. It mentioned the translater of RPGMaker 2000, Don Miguel and I was thinking... didn't he say he had permission?
Hey, that's his statement. He says it wasn't pirated. And he noted that the owners, ASCII, had no intent to sell their product to western audiences. The owners weren't Enterbrain back then. Do I believe he owned it? Yeah. The right to translate? Debatable (but no debate is desired. )
Another article, an interview in fact, mentioned he received a negative responce from Enterbrain about translating RPGMaker 2003... which he honored. However, the interview did express that if it wasn't for his initial translation, there wouldn't have been Gaming Ground Zero, RPG Revolution and the gaming community we have to this day.
I don't expect or desire any debate on this... I just wanted to just make mention since if it wasn't for this guy, we wouldn't be here.
